I had (almost) the same exact truck, same color, 4WD, manual trans. Maybe a year or two newer. One day I got off the highway and the wheel completely stopped rolling, it was like my axle was out of place. What ended up happening was one of the bolts fell out of the caliper and the caliper was blocking the wheel from turning. I got so lucky because there was a mechanic's shop across the 4 lane road, so I threw the truck in reverse, backed up through a parking lot and pulled up to the mechanics shop backwards. Tacoma #Gang

I just had a rear bearing replaced under extended warranty on my 2016 legacy. There was no play in the wheel. Just an audible humm while coasting between 30 an 40 MPH. It was probably just starting to go. A common issue on this generation of subaru. I happen to be very in tune with my cars so I know when something sounds off. Most probably would never hear the hum.
@maximaniac72313 жыл бұрын
Wow. Subaru STILL hasn't fixed that issue! My '05 Legacy GT had that exact same problem of humming with the rear wheel bearings. I ended up replacing both myself. I'll bet they are still using the same part on the '16's that they did on the '05!

@kdmq3 жыл бұрын
5:02 Is a money shot because it proves that the play is in the wheel bearing and not in the ball joint. If you get play at 12 and 6 o clock on a front wheel, it is important to check from the inside of the wheel to verify that the ball joint does not move when you pull the wheel up and down. Obviously you need to have a jack stand (or the lift arm) under the truck when you do this.

Hello Sir, I have an unrelated issue. When I depress and release the clutch pedal in my corolla, I hear a creaking noise. The noise is not always present but starts when I have used the clutch frequently in a short time period, for example, in dense traffic. It appears to come from the barrel in which the push rod slides in but I am not 100% sure. Any idea how to eliminate that noise? By the way, I really like your channel. Thank you.

I've replaced both front wheel bearings on my Nissan Maxima and both rears on a Subaru Legacy I used to own. I think the reason the Maxima's went bad is because of the pot hole laden commute I had with it. In the Subaru's case it's just a known failure point. Oh and btw, the only reason I knew the Maxima's were out was by doing the 12 and 6 o clock test this guy did. The car made no noise and drove fine. The Subaru started making a humming noise at higher speeds.

If he was crooked, couldn't he have told the customer all the bearings needed replacement?
@Krakondack3 жыл бұрын
Possibly, but a mechanic can go too far the other way. If I have to leave it with him and make alternate arrangements, then I want it back all the way better. If the other front bearing is down to its last 10% of life, I'd prefer he recommend I do both at once. I had a good one once, who would say, "if you're not planning on keeping the car long-term, only do this one. If you want to keep it, consider doing both fronts, to save you the hassle of a second trip to the shop." And he'd leave the choice to me.
