How do you check transmission fluid and fill
@VirarAutomotive
@VirarAutomotive 4 жыл бұрын
The transmission fluid is 'filled for life' according to Hyundai. That means they claim that it does not have to be changed for the life of the vehicle. As a result there is no dipstick or any other visible way to easily check the transmission fluid. However, in reality you may want to get your transmission fluid replaced at about 70000-80000 miles (112000-130000 kms).

James Reagan hey James, I have a 2017 Hyundai Elantra and am also experiencing sounds when steering, I know I’m a few months late to the part here lol but out of curiosity could you go into more detail as to what you are or were experiencing? For example, for me, it’s a clunk type of sound, but it seems to only happen right after I start the car and steer after it’s been sitting. It seems to only “clunk” a couple of times before it stops, it’s not a constant thing which is a bit odd to me. My current theory is it’s an issue of some kind with the power steering motor, so that’s what I will be taking a look at. I figure if you are still having an issue and if it’s similar maybe we can help each other a little by sharing information on what we find out or what we have found out :)

How to find transmission fluid
@VirarAutomotive
@VirarAutomotive Жыл бұрын
Transmission is sealed. no easy way to check the transmission fluid level or fluid check. If you want there is a way to drain and refill the transmission fluid. However for that there would need to be jacked up.

Do you ever put water in your elantra
@VirarAutomotive
@VirarAutomotive 2 жыл бұрын
Not direct water no. For windshield wash I use windshield washer fluid as it does not freeze in the winter here in Canada. For coolant I use the proper pre-mixed coolant.

Thank you...what do you check when you don't get heat only cold air?
@VirarAutomotive

Coolant. Check the coolant level, and top it off.
@VirarAutomotive
@VirarAutomotive 2 жыл бұрын
If it's a recurring problem then coolant is being used somewhere, either there is a leak somewhere in the cooling system (radiator, heater core, hoses, water pump ) or the head gasket is bad and coolant is burning in the engine. But I would just top off the coolant for now and keep an eye on it

So only the mechanic can add transmission fluid for the engine
@VirarAutomotive
@VirarAutomotive 3 жыл бұрын
You may add transmission fluid but you need tools and a jack to do so. But like I said the transmission is sealed and so it doesn't really need fluid top offs or for the fluid condition to be checked regularly.

Where’s the transmission fluid at?
@VirarAutomotive
@VirarAutomotive 2 жыл бұрын
The transmission fluid is not easily checkable or needs to be topped off. The transmission is 'sealed' for life. Technically you don't need to check or top off fluid for the rest of the car but if you drive the vehicle under sever conditions like towing or mainly city/hill region driving, short distances only then you may need to do a transmission fluid flush and refill periodically

Sooo theres no power steering fluid?
@VirarAutomotive
@VirarAutomotive 3 жыл бұрын
That's correct. No power steering fluid as this is a electric power steering system. Older vehicles with a hydraulic power steering system worked on fluid. This one works on just an electric motor. No fluids.

@VirarAutomotive
@VirarAutomotive Жыл бұрын
Electric power steering system., so no power steering fluid to worry about. Power steering fluid is needed when it's a hydraulic power steering system. It was much more common on cars prior to 2010's

There is no power steering fluid in the 2017-2018 Hyundai Elantra. It's some other fluid that's likely leaking.
