My 2008 Escape 3.0 V6 has the 4-speed auto and this is one of the easiest transmissions I've ever had to drain/refill. I change it at 30K mile intervals with OEM spec full synthetic and I never have to top it off. One point to note is to always measure the amount drained. I pour it from the catch pan into an empty motor oil jug with quart-marks to be sure. Then I add exactly that amount - no more - until I have run the transmission through all the gears. Then I check it again after driving it the next few times, just to be sure. It's nice to have a dipstick and a fill-tube. Not all of the newer cars have this.

The dipstick in my 2012 3.0 is impossible to read. I’ve done probably 20 readings and they’re all over the place. I can tell there’s fluid in there but I have zero confidence on the exact level based on the dipstick reading.

Do you twist the dipstick in once you put it in all the way in or do you not twist it. Also is there a correct orientation to put the dipstick in like do you put it in where you can read the writing on the top of it or do you put it inside ways which way should it be facing.

I’m having difficulty reading my dipstick. There’s Trans fluid all over the dipstick. If I dip without leaving the stick in for a more than 2 secs I get a reading about 3mm below the full mark. Is the transmission overfilled or I’m not reading it right. I always read with engine hot and running and park engaged. Any help? Thanks

I just bought this car and the stick showed it needs fluid. I put in one quart and in trying to recheck the stick is all smeared from the oil I just put in. How do you add and measure how much fluid you need to put in. Is not as simple as fill, check and fill.

Did you check it while the engine was running at at normal operating temperature? If the fluid is cold, it will not show up on the dip stick.
