That explains why my tv would work for a while then go to black screen. I'd turn the set off and back on and it would work for a while and go back to black screen. Then it worked fine for about a week then back to black screen for good. With your tutorials im changing all the backlights, tv is about 7 years old so figured i might as well before others go bad. Thank you very much.

I do not have an LED tester so to know that i can still check the LED strips without one is so helpful. Great job!

I enjoy your videos , Remember the good old days of Crt's , Dlp's and Plasma repair? We've gone from being TV technicians to Backlight technicians . Keep up the good work.

Just wondering- how much complexity does local dimming add to backlight repairs? Or does local dimming EXTEND the average backlight lifespan?
@bigdog8882

Its just a circuit that dims certain backlight sections according to dark scenes in the picture.

Nice video, is it the same procedure with edge lit backlights as there is only two strips I believe one on each side vertically? Go safe, many thanks.

Great video and very well explained. By the way, you have a beautiful workshop there. Enviable! Please allow me to give you some advice: when troubleshooting on live systems, avoid using jewelry. That necklace around your neck may kill you one of these days and we would hate to be without our favorite teacher, eh,eh. Great job!

I just got a 75" Hisense TV, half the back lights are dead, can you fool the CC driver with a resistor to make the TV come on, I would like to know if everything else works. I can calculate the resistance on the good side with the tester. Volts/current

Did you ever figure this out? I have the same TV I'm trying to power the back lights only do you have any input?
@vernonbosshard9317

@@TheSaltyEgo You would need a very large wattage resistor, wattage is the limiting factor. So I made up a backlight set pulled from another TV to simulate the load, it has to match the test TV close enough not to trigger a shutdown, its gets tricky when you have multiple lines like Vizios have. I suppose you could make up a few sets for different TVs, I abandoned that idea for now. Maybe a way to intercept the shutdown signal, I assume it come from the chopper IC. I think its mainly over current that triggers a shutdown, so if you disconnect the lights you should see an image with a flashlight.

Will I do still have the old circuit board and equipment for this tv. The screen was just cracked I wanted to save the LED panels for a backlight I didn't think it would be that complicated just to turn them on though

I have a 65 inch Hisense TV. It won't turn on and the red light is just flashing. I replaced both the power board and the main board. Is it possible that I have a bad LED strip or strips? I have no backlight

You might just be better off buying a different tv at that point. That brand is the cheapy Walmart kind anyway. Not like it’s a top or the line LG or Samsung worth repairing You’ll spend more in replacement parts replacing all the internal modules and lighting

Leaky LED? What does that mean. It's solid state. It either works or doesn't work. Once they fail they shouldn't come back. So why does my tv work sometimes others, has all the symptoms of a bad LED.

Backlight LED is just a "Diode". It can be leaky also and change value or resistance too, just like a diode.

So I took the Tv apart, the problem was the connection between the two strips of LEDs. The LED brightness would change upon touch of that connection. I unscrewed then put back in place. The screw nearest the connection had to be tightened first..Anyway I fixed that...But put everything back, and now I get nothing. Just a blue standby LED. I slightly cracked the screen upon disassembly. (I did not use suction cups). Lesson learned...no shortcuts.. Anyway thanks for the knowledge.
