I literally would've got this position if my opponent didn't blunder (so instead of only having 2 knights and opponent having 1 pawn, I had an extra pawn which helped me win)

Is there a restriction on where the pawn can be? Are rook files okay? How about pawn past the 5th rank?

The pawn can be on any file. However, the game is a draw if the pawn is too far forward, and that "too far forward" point depends on the file. Apparently, a pawn past the 5th rank is usually too far forward (irrespective of file), but the side with the knights can still force a win in some cases.

It should be on second Troitsky line: a5 b6 c5 d5 e5 f5 g6 h5 (black pawn). However sometimes checkmate can be forced if the pawn passed this line. It depends on the position of other pieces

The pawn has to be on one of the certain squares for this to work. It also depends where your knights are initially. Sometimes it might be draw even if your opponent has extra pawn

A bishop is slightly stronger than a knight on average, but it varies with the position. Open positions are generally seen more than closed ones.

Exactly why 2 knights can deliver forced mate in some postions . They need to remove that draw rule.

@@Shickelgruberstalemate isnt just useful for low level chess, its actually very fair as a rule. A bunch of forced checkmates are only possible because of "zugzwang"- its illegal to skip your turn, so you're forced to make a bad move that allows the opponent to make progress. So if they only got such a dominant position by forcing you to NOT skip your turn and thus make bad moves, why should they get the right to now force you to skip your turn so they can finish the job. "You can skip your turn, but only when its to my advantage" would be extremely unfair
