Just a few months into learning WC locally and have been enjoying your videos as a way to learn more outside of class. Great explanations. Also, as a "Kauai'an" AND a map maker, I greatly appreciate the decor in this video! Cheers and aloha.

Had a dog that did better chi-sau than some people I know. He always stayed in double fook-sau. His punches were weak, but his slobber-tongue attack to the face was deadly.

Chi Sau is a training method, not a fighting method, and its goal is to develop reaction and speed and use the right defense at the right time, and it is currently used by many UFC fighters around the world.

Sifu Adam? What do U think of rattan ring Chi Sao training? I understand it's the closest exercise to study without the use of a partner.

The ring can be one of the worst things to practice if you practice it the way most people teach it. It develops an outward, spreading-type energy which is bad for your muscle memory.

Sifu Adam, why do I suck so bad at chi sao? I have trouble relaxing and just end up trying to bulldoze or wrestle in. I can roll fine but I struggle to see opportunities to get in and end up using way too much force and then end up crossed up and/or eat a slap. I know it frustrstes my Sifu and I am being held back from moving forward becsuse of it and it is highly discouraging. I would much rather but gloves and helmets on in order to apply the techniques as no real fight will look like chi sao!?

Sounds like you are trying too hard to get it. This comes from either a desperate desire to win and/or a fear of being hit. Either way, you’ll need to let go of desire and fear in order to feel openings. Bruce Lee says “learn the art of dying”.

Correct. However to me the closest thing for me is practicing with the rattan ring. Give me a feedback and reply if you wish

The ring is very helpful. I sometimes play the Dummy with the ring... also a useful exercise. It helps us maintain structure and "forward" energy. It also helps use the area below the wrist to make contact while the wrist "steers" the "pole" of our forearm.

@@hiddenpathwingchun5045 Thank you. I discovered a method is which you can do a simulated chi sao sparring without a partner. Use the rattan ring simulate your opponent's energy and any striking object in front of you simulating your opponent you are trying to hit👍👍👍👍👍👍

@@MrEMT4466 I watched a video you posted. It definitely is food for thought. I'll need to buy a larger rattan ring as well for your elbow drill. The importance is feedback and energy [with forward pressure]. I'm hoping to try those exercises myself when I have a chance. Sadly, in these times we need to look at alternatives to a partner. I'm fortunate in that I have some private students and my own children as well as a Mook Jong. But not everyone has those benefits. God bless.
