I see this chip getting around now especially i just seen this vlog from chrstian smith doing a decent preview of the chip. Ive had 95 vr with the garrett chip and wanted to know the difference. There was a timenwhere giac was the shit and the best chip for the vr. Being that you went from giac to reflect tuning.. you feel its more power? Garrett boast to this day 12 hp and tq respectively. And does it really rev out to 7500 rpm as to garretts 7200? Thanks.

Great video. Did you notice any performance gains from the chip upgrade? You should always use an ESD (Electro Static Discharge) mat when working with electronics or circuit boards. The last thing you want to zap the ECU or any part of the board.
@tommyb80469 жыл бұрын
i see alot of people suggest an anti static work surface. the only suggestion i would have is to keep that seal good and to help it a little bit.....a thin layer of di-electric grease works wonders. Also great for your main harness plug in to keep any water from getting into a plug with an old seal.

Great vid, but what exactly does this chip do?. Is it a tunning chip, or is it a performance upgrade, how much HP increase. I might have missed something, or does this chip just allow you to clear fault codes?. Can you get a performance chip off your guy, might be a cheap HP increase before the turbo goes on.
@nikeelm6 жыл бұрын
it looks like its used to cancel out codes ...not performance related
@user-dn6qy1ou1f5 жыл бұрын
You can clear basic codes like that with most any scan tool. Vcds is used to get access to everything the dealership can. Im guessing it was a performance chip. He just didn't explain what it altered
@alfbittner64897 жыл бұрын
I've recently changed my a/c pump, to do that I removed the front end, it was an easy procedure and accessibility made the job easy. Long story short I popped a header tank hose and the temp warning light came on, fixed hose, drove car and it died three times. The last time a friend with a scan tool did a code clear and it started and got me home. When we went to drive again no start. Is this what you meant do a one key cycle, to make sure the code doesn't come back, and what if it does.

those PLCC chips, so retro!. BTW i'd also check the state of the capacitors whilst the ECU is open, a while back iirc on Toyota cars bad caps where failing the ECUs(there was a recall or something), doesn't hurts to check and it's an easy repair. Also, that chip mod is easy with those socketed ROMs, newer ECUs are more complicated sadly :( About VCDS, love it but it's crazy expensive, and they seem to have cracked down on chinese copies(there where bulk of them on DX, now i can't find any)

It would be nice; if you would do a review of the wireless HEX NET, version of VCDS. Many of us; have the cable for years but have not made the leap to the wireless version. So far, from a cost effective point of view; I still think the VCDS License with HEX-USB+CAN Unlimted VIN (All VAG), is the best deal (although being tethered to a windows based laptop is a drag). It would be cool; to use a phone or tablet, however.

Did the fault code have anything to do with the chip swap? Or was that an existing fault? I'm not sure I see the point of connecting the VCDS other than clearing the fault. Would the fault have cleared otherwise?
@HumbleMechanic9 жыл бұрын
It was an existing faulting the main reason for the chip. It's always good to check faults after work like that. Many failures are 2 trip monitor failures. That means they need to fail a test twice to turn the MIL on. But you can often see the fault stored before the MIL is on. This may help prevent an issue while on a test drive. Think about the drive into work @6am the next morning and the MIL pops on. I'd rather know I have an issue while I am at home or the shop. Rather than wait until I am on the road.

@HumbleMechanic9 жыл бұрын
Thanks. The chip has an estimated 10hp gain. I don't really notice the improvement while driving. But the car is stock. You can feel that airflow is somewhat stifled. I think with an intake and exhaust it would be very noticeable. The main reason for this tune is to solve a check engine light issue due to a failing secondary air system.
