How to choose a battery for your Boom Box project

I just built a bookbox with a 5 watt 2 channel amp. Has 2 4 inch 2 ways. I'm using a 7amphour 12 volt. How low voltage can I go? 12?

Man, that is a lot of tech going into a small box. I have built around 6 boombox coolers and the simplest is (1) blue cube cooler from Walmart, with 400-800 watt amp with (2) 6x9 speakers cut an stacked in front with a AUX red/white - into 3.5mm phone jack. Throw in a older used/new car battery hooked up with clips to +/_ on battery and blows people away on the beach. Last around 6-10+ hours and cooler has plenty of space for bass. (not beer though...)

Check out the last two videos I posted. 1000 watt 4 chsnnel Crunch amp. I use deep cycle batteries. Much lighter and can carry the load better. Thank you for watching

When doing a toolbox build i suggest a orange or yellow box that way when you install lights inside you can shut the lid and it will glow nice

@@diyboomboxesintexas2805 i wanted the orange box so i could find it in the dark but when i lit it and shut the lid it glows like a fire or open it and mount a ply shelf where the tray would go with the led strip above that and you have a nice place to keep your gadgets or in my case a ppx3414 which are awesome. nice channel btw

I use car audio sealed deep cycle batteries they're very very small and put out an insane amount of power and don't have to be ventilated and they can be mounted upside down if you want

I'm using the power wheels 12 volt 9.5 ah battery in my suite Case boom box and a Schumacher smart charger and it works well.

You can use 2 4 amp hour 6 volt lead acid batteries wired in series to power a car radio and it will work just fine with no problems also the battery life can depend on the brand of the battery some battery brands have a longer battery life than other brands do

Im making a camp speaker with lights and twin phone charger and bluetooth amp board. i was going to run 2x 12v 7ah sla batteries in parralel as i get them free at work. I assume i can use my mains powered car charger to charge it. im running a 50w bookshelf speaker with crossover board. Im unsure how long the battery would last charging 2 phones running the led strip and the amp board at medium. do i need 2 batteries or would you think 1 would be enough for say a weekend as one battery weighs a bit

@@diyboomboxesintexas2805 Its a small toolbox build so i have space for 2. the 5.5mm power jack that just arrived looks a bit weak so was worried if that would be a issue. It will never be played at full whack as i dont want to piss off other people when camping but it will be running the led strip and twin charging socket. Thanks

Jose Vargas I normally leave it in the on position, but if I'm not going to use the radio or the Boombox for more than 24 hours I go ahead and turn the switch off

The lithium battery unit has a power button on it. How are you accounting for that?

Mark Stricker I leave it on while I'm using the unit. And amplifier and turn it back off. If I'm not going to use the unit for more than 24 hours I'll go ahead and open it up and turn off the switch at the battery

I have seen that done in the past. The questions you have to ask yourself, is : 1. Will the battery voltage not exceed the voltage needs of what I am powering? 2. How easy will it be to charge the batteries?

@@bobkeller8383 Ok, got it. I went with a Pioneer double din radio with CD player and Bluetooth. (2) Kicker 600 watt 6x9s and (2) Kicker 400 watt 6.5 inch. 30 amp power supply, relay, (2) 9 ah SLA batteries, power cord, 400 watt 4 channel Sure Electronics amp board, 4 inch fan, 27 " toolbox, voltage booster, USB port, Voltage gauge , 12 volt socket, marine antenna , port tube, noise filter, plus all the wire, RCA jacks, and switches.

Too much waffle and not enough technical information. NiMH is the best all rounder. They are light, cost less and have enough amp discharge. The only problem is charging time though boomboxes are not taken out daily so they are the best option. Forget lead, too heavy and slow to charge. Lithium has low discharge for small battery packs though they can handle higher amps in parallel/series, that adds cost and you need a charging circuit to build one for high watts audio.
