Thanks for the great explaination. The new downwind boards help even better to get out of the water with thier shape ending very fine at their tip and being nerow and long. The drawback is they do not fit in the car. Otherwise two boards as you said for light wind and a shorter when its windy might help progression. The foil with high aspect ratio could help a lot in light wind conditions I guess.

Yes exactly! And of course 2 boards always will be better but most people cant or dont want to buy 2... so making the right all around choice will be key! I am glad you liked the explanation! 😁🤙

Keep in mind high aspect foils are usually harder to use so unless you are an experienced rider they might not be the way to go for easier starting. Depends on the foils of course... for example in Axis even the high aspect foils are pretty user friendly and lots of intermediate riders use them and love them!

Hi, nice explanation. I have the FLY 5.4 2022 version 130l, I'm a "beginner", is the board completely different compared to the 2023 model? I feel I need quite some wind to get out of the water. Using a 6m Vayu v3 and kujrira helium 1750. Thanks!

Hi! I am glad you enjoyed it! The new board are a lot easier I must say. The 2022 need more wind because of the rocker and rounded, short shape. The new ones are the perfect balance of length and ease of use. Very balanced and easy.

Very informative, thank you. I'm still on my Fanatic Air 120 litre 5'8" "beginner" board. Mainly because I am still a beginner :D What's your opinion on inflatables versus hard boards?
@Tobeon2

In the real beginning just the first 3-10 sessions, it will be good because so much less pain on your knees & all... and.. yeah.. there is a travel convenience too. However, as a low int. level rider myself (e. g. working on my tacks), I find inflatible board.. well...a bit odd(!?). Maybe I am not a good enough wing foiler yet, but I would so much prefer the hard boards over the inflatible ones..

To put it simply, hard boards are always better. Enless you are looking for convenience with storage and travelling then I dont see a reason to go for an inflatable. Especially once you are good in wingfoiling and start using smaller boards then they are not even that much more compact. Inflatables are getting better and better but they tend to stick more to the water and usually feel more wobbly and less reactive.

Very interesting and informative video! What is your personal opinion about Appleslice V2? And being more specific - intermediate /2 years foiling/ 82 kg., switching from Cabrinha Macro 98 l to Appleslice 4.10 " - 70l? Thanks !

I am happy you liked it! I cant speak about the appleslice as I havent had an opportunity to try it... i do know that appletree makes good boards by reputation and most people i have talked to really like it. Personally not a huge fan of the Cabrinha (not that they are bad) so if you ask me hypothetically i would say the appleslice is nicer. As for the sizing I think you should go for it. Even if you are not at the exact level to have an easy transition to the 70 it will just take some time and practice and you will have no problems. Once you get to riding that 70 you wont want to go back 😆🤙

Wow... You are going from 98 ltr straight to 70 ltr? 😳👀.. My progression has been 1. 123 liter (some Chinese brand 🤣😂) 2. 112 liter (Reedin) 3. 105 liter (RRD) 3. 98 liter (Cabrinha Macro) (95 liter JP) 4. 90 liter (FFB) My transition has been quite easy in the past 2 years 😁😜😎😉 (FYI: I weigh 75 kg) I got KT 80 liter board and am planning to get used 78 liter (Cabrinha) for stronger wind. 😂

Thanks for sharing! You are doing smart-small steps transitioning...As for my more drastic change in volume I think I'll have to sacrifice some sessions getting used to the smaller board, but I think its manageable... @@Tobeon2

Too busy sorry! 😂 But hopefully what you have works fine and you dont need to change... this is a general guide so if the company you ride found a good balance between different shapes and cuts and it works, then why not! At keast ai hope that the case. But if you need help choosing a new board I am always here to help 😊

Swingweight is not an issue at all with current lightweight building and narrow shapes. It used to be but not anymore... and width means less responsive, that's another frame for calling narrow punishing...

Keep in mind this is a general guide for people that need help choosing a board. And a vary narrow long board is harder to stand on for the less experienced. Also, most people looking to get boards are not only looking at the most current models and shapes so the guide has to have info that helps with older, second hand gear. P.s. i do mention what you said about current shapes and weight.
