How to Choose a Cabinet Colour (HINT: It's not the first decision you should be making)

Our designer had us pick our cabinet color last after picking everything else. We had a general idea of the color we wanted but seeing all the undertones together was SO helpful with the final selection! And as you mentioned, picking color first can really limit your options for counters (and other materials) which is what we found out very early!

Maria, I have fallen in love with CAMBRIA, Portrush natural quartz for my counter top. It is white with dark blue veins. At first I was leaning toward dark blue shaker style cabinets. But, now think it would be better to go with more neutral color cabinets. My style for the house is warm minimalism. The floor and wood trim will be Honey Oak. What color would you suggest for the cabinets, back splash and walls?

What should you choose "second" if your cabinet color is already dictated by what the builder uses as their "white" or "off-white" cabinet option? New home builders here in So. California don't usually offer to paint custom cabinet colors unless it's a custom home build. And if the cabinets/trim are off-white, should you stay with the same undertone on the walls, counters, and backsplash if you want a great white kitchen? I'm guessing a true white wall might make the off-white cabinets look dingy, so is the only option to go the same off-white (or similar color in that undertone?), or creamier (but same undertone?) in order to have your woodwork still look white?

We have pine woodfloors with provincial stain which is a medium orange tone my husband doesn't want to paint cabinets but I can choose new countertops and put in a backslash what color should I pick for a countertop, stove is a dark stainless steel and black and fridge is stainless steel grey

Yes! This! We had a client who nearly made a HUGE mistake in choosing her cabinet colour. I don't understand how people choose the cabinetry colour first. Makes no sense to me!

I think people choose the cabinets first due to the lead time and the fact that the contractor usually subs out countertops which go in last and figures it is a decorative choice (which is a "personal" decision).

But what if this is a remodel and you want to keep your white oak floors with natural finish (light/warm) and your walls are BM "Barley" color (from 2006) and you want to keep the yellow color (maybe go a little lighter)... What direction should I be going in for the counter, backsplash and cabinet?
