11:20 to 14 you talk about food sizes and that WAS one of the only problems I had with my hospital tank (tank in a children's hospital not a medicine tank). The kids have a 180 gallon "nano tank" the biggest fish in there are the only ones that are not nano (under one inch) and that's because those are half a dozen bristlenose pleco. it's impossible to get them out because it's also a planted tank that's in full bloom, I plan on replacing them with two dozen cooleeloches (if that's how you spell it?) when it came to food the kids experimented with over 100 bottles and up of 50 well known name brands (I know because it came out of my pocket in a two year span!) we came up with a fool-proof plan to feed all the fish and still keep a change in food every day. I placed two or three pellets of bottom feeder (plant matter) with a mix of five foods that i know they'll eat. each food along with the pellets is chopped down in a coffee grinder and set in it's own labeled bottle and the kids get to pick which food to use out of those five and watch to chart down what fish eat it and who watched to see if other food was coming. each bottle has it's own chart and the kids that feed "Have to" keep track and chart out what foods, when and how much. since it's a children's hospital, it teaches them the how's and why's of proper labels, food intake and medication schedules.

I've noticed a remarkable increase in my goldfish's vigor after changing my food from New Life Spectrum Goldfish to Saki-Hikari Breeder's Choice. Also, when I had bristlenose pleco babies, their growth increased exponentially on the Bug Bites for Plecos. Unfortunately, the from the more recent bags I bought, the pellets float.

The pickiest fish choose black worms, thus I have started breeding them. Pay once for a culture, keep em happy with some cycled water and tropical fish flakes, profit. When I trim off the non-green dead sections of java moss (When it gets too big and dense for light to travel all the way through, the bottom dies and gets covered with micro-fauna), and add those trimmings to their tank. Also using the same aquarium the black worms are in to propagate tons of hornwort and java moss. I feed the black worms when nitrites are zeroed, and bump up the brightness and length of the day cycle when nitrates register on a test. The only thing I can't get rid of is their poop without a water change, trying to resolve that last piece so I can just auto-farm black-worms... that's the goal. In the meantime I simply check parameters once per week, feed once per 1-2 weeks, harvest and replace water ever 4 weeks or so, basically once nitrates start to be too much for plants to handle. I also just have most of the extreme fish food line to cover all my fish, and tropical flakes, but yeah, variety is key to everything. Btw, I love your content, you feed me so much information, that's one of the best foods, hands down haha

I listened to the podcast of this today and wanted to chime in about food affecting the color of fish. I have two blood parrots and two "kirin" cichlids (I'm told they are flowerhorn mixed with blood parrot but who knows). In general both types of fish will color up after eating ANY food at all but I notice that when I feed Repashy Redrum, live earthworms (red wigglers) or mysis shrimp they color up an undeniable amount more. The enhanced coloration starts a min or two after feeding and lasts for an hour or two. I believe all of these foods are high in carotenoids but I assume it is more complicated than simply a matter of high carotenoids considering I only have noticed this phenomena in my hybrid cichlids. Thanks for all the info...you have changed my life, dude.

I think I'm cutting my Repashy into too large of chunks. I did it the way you showed, but tonight I saw my Plecostomus (10") swimming around trying to swallow it. I can only imagine how my 3" Raphael cats are struggling with it!! But since I feed them at night I never see them actually consume it, and it's always gone by morning. I'm going to chop it up into small chunks and see how that works. My fish LOVE it, though!!!!! BTW.....my employer has Shoes for Crews and I love them!! I may be abnormal, but I feed multiple foods at each feeding. For example: 180g - Omega shrimp pellets for the clown loaches to chase to the bottom (but not before splashing me) Then 1-2mm NLS floating pellets and .5mm NLS pellets or fluval bug bites for everyone else. 60g - Aq Coop food and Bugbites or Sera flake and a few shrimp pellets for S. lucipinnis, Y. sidthimunki and Monty swordtails. 40g - Gold ocellatus get fed a few neighbor children or teenagers each week. Other foods in the mix for above and other tanks are various algae pellets and different flavors of bugbites and frozen food. Haven't tried Rapashy yet.

I would love more info on what to feed very small nano fish. I have chili rasboras and they seem to be doing well on hikari first bites. I also feed powdered repashy but I'm worried they'll eat the gelatin and it will make them bloat. Sometimes I feed baby brine but I'm not sure if they are big enough to eat it.
