Can I keep a single pleco? Or do I need to have other fish to keep a pleco? I know they don't eat waste, but they say algae, can I keep a single pleco?

I am dealing with the cloudy water thing right now. Even though I'm a subscriber, I just recently came across this. I need to find me a white container. A few weeks ago I added 3 cories.. one died 2 days later. I waited another 2 weeks and added 5. It's a 38 gal that was fully cycled for at least 6 months. It has one nerite snail and some hitch hiker bladder snails. A few plants as I'm new to it. Upon advise of others I did a 50% water change on Sat and now my ammonia went from 0.25 to 0.50 I even skipped feeding Sat and fed much less on Sun. Any advise you can give me would be great. Aside from being cloudy, my tank has a funky smell. I'm wondering if it's an algae issue, instead of the 5 extra fish and too much food. Are the night time lights(blue) as bad for algae as the other lights? TIA for any info.

I can relate so much to being constantly strapped for cash, and I'm so happy that you understand! I really, really wanted an aquarium, so I bought a tank off Craig's list for $15, dug gravel and plants out of a local pond, and got feeder guppies. I recently managed to buy a $30 light fixture, after months of saving up!
@heaven73603 жыл бұрын
Hows the aquarium working for you? I don't have tons to spend either but there's just ways to cut costs that happen in time. I bought a 10 gallon tank off of amazon for $14 a few times and they were always fine, no leaks. Then for lids I found some glass or acrylic sheets. Being cash strapped makes a person creative.

Glad you didn't put it off. Good for us to see we aren't the only ones dealing with things like this. I find this happens every time I do a water change. I thought maybe it was dust from my substrate after stirring things up during water a water change. Never occurred to me that it might be bacterial bloom. As for your tank....800 gal? My God!! I can't even imagine having room for a tank that size...I suppose I'd make room if my fishy Fairy Godmother decided to drop one in my lap...then again I doubt my apt floor would support that thing lol. The information on your web site helped me find out how to treat my betta; I had to work like hell to find out what it was and I needed some final information before I used salt treatment and other meds and I wasn't in the mood to be patient. Your information was clear and it worked most importantly. He had Saprolegnia and had a very bad spot of it. There was never such a great feeling than watching that spot gradually decrease and eventually fall off. He was my first betta and I just love him so thanks for the help.

I use a 'quick filter' that attaches to a powerhead, I've been using it for years. In fact I'd suggest using one on each tank. It will polish any water as clear as glass in just an hour or two. You can also use a diatomaceous filter but its a pain in the but, like a magnum 350 with the special diatomaceous earth filter, just have to charge it with the powder before you use it.

I'm cycling a 75 gallon with 2 fish. I used a sponge filter from an established tank. I also squeezed out a really dirty sponge filter in the tankl. I think that was a mistake. The water has been cloudy since. I've been adding beneficial bacteria and Prime. The water test shows 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite and 0 nitrate. What to do?

Fast forward about 10 days, we added a few plants and flourish tabs and the next day it was cloudy. Today marks day 3 od very cloudy water. Could this be from the flourish tabs? Should i do a water change?

Anyway the water has been cloudy since we set it up 2 days ago... wondering if it's just particles from the new surface strate in there or if maybe its cycling... I wanna add my fish to their new home..... I put my used biowheel from my other tank into this one... I also put a plant or 2 in there... and I put about 10 gallons of water from my old tank to the new tank... I have bladdersnails in there from my old tank already...

Do you worm your fish after the quarantine period. From growing up with farm animals and pets I know you can never kill all worms only reduce to a livable level and then they increase again. Use the med trio and love it but wondering if fish are the same as other animals but don’t want to over medicate thank you.
