Fun! Nice presentation. You need to talk a bit more about how tough and durable your products are. Heavier yes, but you can really go bushwhacking and not worry about tearing your new jacket. You will probably hand it down to one of your children too!

Nice and interesting video I’ve seen with happiness. I own a poncho from a long time which protect me very well from the wind, I never see it on the trails here in Italy, so I ‘m happy to see it promoted in the video (poncho don’t protect well from heavy rains because condensation is formed on its inside).

I have a number of Fjallraven G-1000 smocks and jackets and I do love the traditional look and hard-wearing qualities. Sadly though they are not ideal for the very rainy weather we have here in Scotland, even if you wax them, the rain gets through. If it's bucketing rain in the winter maybe a poncho on top of a g-1000 jacket would work, but otherwise I think a goretex jacket or suchlike is a better bet. The Paramo system is popular here, but only good for the very active, as it relies on high breathability and constant drying to work effectively.

This is where the eco-shell is great! I'm Aussie, so certainly not as in as rainy weather as Scotland, but for heavy or persistent rain, I use the Keb Eco-Shell (which is practically a Gore Tex alternative) but for light rains, I'll wear my waxed Greenland jacket. A shame the eco-shell isn't produced in that same old school, traditional style of the G-1000 garments.

@@evigvandrare That’s it Jake, I love the rugged look of a well worn G1000 jacket. I like your Australian dusters too, look great when they’re a bit roughed-up, but not waterproof enough in persistent, heavy rain.

Hi, thank you for the great intro into Fjällräven´s shells! I have a question regarding sizes, as this is always a topic for me when shopping Fjällräven products. I am 178cm, 75kg, and usually I go for "M" or 30-32 for trousers (my Keb is 30-31). So, for example, my Singi Knit Sweater is M and fits just fine, in Malmö at the FR store I was recommended to buy my Keb Eco Shell Jacket in S by the staff to have a snug fit which would be better for membrane shell garments in terms of evaporation and breathability as air space is minimized I am happy with - it works really good. Some times thoughI wish I would have a bit more space for layering. Now I decided for a Kaipak Jacket, tried S and M and cannot decide, S fits good and snug, M gives more room for thicker layers, but feels bulky when I just have a thin layer beneath. I know this comes down to personal preference, but maybe this is what you could share from your personal point of view. Cheers, Christopher
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the feedback! If you want to have more room for layers a compromise is needed in case you are also using only one thin layer. The jacket will be a bit bulky, it cannot be avoided. We hope you will like the jacket!

I just want to give a shout out to the poncho. If you go backpacking in mixed conditions it beats a hard shell hands down. I have no issue with moderate sized backpacks like Friluft 45. Bring a pair of light shell pants as a supplement and you will stay dry when it pours. It also doubles as a small tarp (love the snap button design on the sides) and as a waterproof blanket. If you are worried about not looking smart wearing it, just go for the orange one as I did 🤣

Love my poncho, the other solutions simply can't handle a pouring rain. Use it especially on the bike, and when hiking it covers the backpack as well.

I'm still waiting for Fjallraven to make a G-1000 jacket that fits my need. It would be like a Keb-jacket (great hood, ventilation and stretch panels) but with big pockets for gloves and hats.

The keb isn’t much good in the rain, too many stretch panels i think. I think it’s more of a soft shell, shower resistant.
@M1_K3Y
@M1_K3Y 3 жыл бұрын
Have you tried them? I was considering the Keb but also thought it was too much stretch for brush and campfires. I would have liked if they included handpockets that you ignore if you wear a hip belt, having no pockets and calling it a design feature isn’t great for me. Locally I can only try the Skogso and it’s fine (XL) however I like the idea of more g1000 eco (rather than lite) with the stretch of Kaipak. Just trying to see if I’m an XL in Kaipak as well even though I heard the fit is more regular than the Skogso (slimmer).

Thank you for discussing some of the materials for shells, even the variation of G-1000s is a talk for another time. I am between the Kaipak, which is not very available in Canada, and the Skogso. My size in Skogso would be XL (large was too tight across waist and hips), however I have read that Kaipak has a more regular fit than the slimmer Skogso. At 6’3” (190 cm) and 215 lbs (97.5 kg). Have you (or commenters) tried both to know if I would be L or XL in the Kaipak? Thank you!

3 жыл бұрын
@@M1_K3Y The Kaipak has G-1000 and stretch panels, and the Skogsö has mainly G-1000 Lite with reinforcements of G-1000. The G-1000 Lite is a thinner and cooler fabric than the G-1000.
@M1_K3Y
@M1_K3Y 3 жыл бұрын
Yes thank you I understand that g1000 lite is thinner and lighter, I heard that the stretch of the Kaipak will still make the heavier garnet more breathable than the g1000 lite body of the Skogso. I have the product details from the website, I was hoping for a more practical comparison because in the video the hosts are wearing each, aside from pockets, cuffs and material what are some personal opinions between the two? Having only been able to try a Skogso in person I think it will be my likely choice, the full g1000eco + stretch panels may be the ideal jacket for me, do you know if it will be available again in Canada?

When I go out in nature I tend to go hiking, what’s called bushcrafting nowadays and canoeing for 2 week trips without resupply. So in general quite active stuff, with changing circumstances. My problem has been that my waterproof shells always lack breathability when active and above 10C. I’m always more drenched from sweat than the rain since I sweat a lot. So mostly lighter gear is advised for breathability, however durability becomes a major problem. I hope someday a jacket will be made that can handle me. Until now none I tried can, not Fjallraven either.
3 жыл бұрын
Hi, They key there, which you might have tried already, is to help the garment a bit by opening up the front zipper and if there are any ventilation zippers on the sides. Of course it depends on the weather and circumstances if this is possible or not.

Hi Fjällräven! How about sizing with Eco-Shell pants? All my Fjällräven pants are 46 - they fit nicely saved getting 3-5 kilos extra in winter time- I’m planning to get Keb Eco-Shell pants. Normally size 46 equals to size S. Which size should I go with, S or M?
