Hi Atousa! I recently got accepted at Brunel University London for the course Biomedical science with specialist pathway of human health. Recently I was being anxious because of my course choice & also my university choice but after after watching your video, I felt more calmer & starting to get excited about my course. I think it's the way how you explained the field. I'll keep watching your videos because you are good in explaining things & have a very calming voice.

I'm an adult learner[mid 20s] still only at GCSE Biology level with no other qualifications. Academia is not easy for me however I do enjoy studying, learning and achieving and I am very motivated. They do access courses in science but before going on to one of those I need to have a clear, strong plan of what I want to eventually do at university level and beyond. I don't exactly have time on my hands to keep putting off or waiting for the answer to manifest. I have done a lot of research [repeated,amateur, clueless,hours,days,weeks, months,years online all day and night,going round in circles]. This Friday morning as I 'revise' cluelessly for the same single science GCSE Biology exam 15-16 yr olds are sitting [feel free to kill me now, since the embarassment has already destroyed me] I am losing my mind trying to decide with crystal clear clarity on my next step. I'm too old and possibly too dumb for the very demanding courses like Medicine & no one wants a haphazard,mature, late qualified GP of age 45[probably the age I'll be by the time I qualify] do they? However I believe I have it in me to study a course that is fairly academic. I am quite interested in plant biology but I do not know of anyone studying that nor of any rich people with a degree in plant biology. I also have issues with how underrepresented people of my particular ethnicity are and I want equality in workplace and studying. I'm already a failure and years behind my peers but I refuse to go back to work at McDonald's nor as a charity shop low paid carer. My own health is no good. I have so called Fibromyalgia and severe anxiety and the regular jobs don't suit me. I've spoken to so called careers 'advisers' and I've looked through lists of exhaustive courses on Uni and uni centre websites but still no clarity. Do you know of which courses are good for fair and equal treatment of ethnic minority individuals such as myself. I am not lucky at socialising so I need all the luck in the world at being nice and I have experienced harrowing bullying wherever I've been so I am always scared and I require a good environment with good people if possible. I have no idea what to expect on results day for this biology GCSE but one exam is already done and now revising for the the second, yet still clueless and anxious. Can you help me whittle down choices and decide by end of today? I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance.

Hi Atousa, I never usually comment but I just HAVE to let you know how much your more recent vids have helped me! I'm in yr12 now and I'm thinking about studying biomedical sciences at uni. I honestly never knew much about it until recently but your vids have been so Informative! I was hoping you'd do a video soon about personal statements for biomed at undergrad level as I've no idea about where to start for my first draft. Also about the kind of person you have to be for the course/profession? I don't really know how to explain this other than when I was researching medicine and people usually give examples about how a doctor needs to be good at problem solving or working well under pressure or communicating with vulnerable people. I don't know if any of this makes sense lol. Hopefully you get what I mean? Like what are the skills you need on a daily basis as a biomedical scientist or anything similar? I feel like thinking about this stuff would make the personal statement and interview process so much easier! Thank you so much if you got to the end of the longest comment ever lol, I hope you keep making videos about this stuff as your channel is so helpful for me and and my friends!
@atousa5752
@atousa5752 7 жыл бұрын
aww, that's so nice to hear! I'm very happy that they have been useful! oh and yes I can absolutely do that for you :) I can make a video reading out my last personal statement if you think that would be useful, and no I absolutely see what you mean, but honestly with biomedical sciences I would say you have to be interested in science and be willing to work hard, other than that, it's not so much like medicine where you need specific qualities so I wouldn't worry :) but to answer your question, as an undergrad student I would say the skill you need to have are the ability to take quick notes in lectures (which you will learn there so don't worry), managing your time (so doing your work as soon as you get it because it can pile up quickly) and as I said just generally being enthusiastic about what you do! and yes you are absolutely right, so in my personally statement I said things like 'I learnt time management by doing X, Y and Z etc." and don't worry at all lovely, I'm always happy to answer people's questions :) I wish you and your friends all the best of luck!!

Hi. I have been looking into studying either biomed or immunology at uni and was wondering if you can still become a biomed scientist with an immunology bsc? There is also a course near me called "human biology" and I was wondering what the differences are between this and biomed besides the name?
@atousa5752
@atousa5752 6 жыл бұрын
Hello :) I have to say, I'm not 100% sure in terms of whether you would still be classed as a 'biomedical scientist' if you do an immunology degree - my initial instinct is to say yes, but perhaps you would have the title of being an 'immunologist' but still be able to be registered within the institute of biomedical sciences! as for you second question - again, I wouldn't be able to tell you as I don't know anything about the university offering it, but I would say take a look at the detailed course specification and compare them on the university website! I feel like human biology may be more anatomy and physiology based where as biomedical sciences may have more molecular content! :) good luck

Hello Atousa, i have watched many of your videos and I really like them. There is one question that I would like to ask. What is the difference between a biomedical science degree and a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) degree? It seems to me that MLS degree is just a new name for Biomedical Science? Or are there differences in the modules? Thank you!
@atousa5752
@atousa5752 7 жыл бұрын
Hi lovely, aw I'm very glad to hear that :) and I personally have never heard of MLS, but I THINK (and please do further research yourself to make sure), but I think that a biomedical sciences degree can more often lead to scientific research, where as MLS might be more medical testing in hospitals etc? like examining blood samples etc. ... that is my guess haha

Heyy!! So I'm studying Biomedical Sciences in Greece and my field is medical laboratories. (There are 5 fields in my university and our degree is different and it depends on the field you choose). Other universities do not categorise biomedical sciences so everyone has the same degree. In essence I have the same degree as someone who studies at a university without fields. So medical laboratory scientists are the same with biomedical scientists. Someone who didn't choose med laboratories as his field doesn't have the same degree with the med scientist nor the biomedical scientists.(even though he has the title)

@hufflepuff harry potter lover I'm planning on becoming a community pharmacist. I find the stuff with patients and healthcare more interesting than the science tbh On my course I think there's a sorta even split of boys and girls, I think there are more girls though but Pharmacy isn't exactly a degree that people would say is either a (traditinally) boys or girls subject (which btw I wish people would just let people study whatever they want lol, at one point I had an interest in nursing but people made me feel bad about the idea just cause I'm a boy) so maybe it's just chance?

Hi, I am exactly doing Biomed now as a first year and i also have a chance to specialise next year and I am thinking between an option called Pharmacology and Genetics, or specialising in Genetics alone. For Pharmacology and Genetics, which I can transfer from BSc Biomed, that's what i am currently doing, into the option of MSci Pharmacology and Genetics (which i am considering transferring to) with a professional placement year (PPY). Coz this sounds like a very attractive and competitive option -- in four years i get a master degree as well as a year of work experience. Obviously i didn't just consider this because of it being competitive. I am genuinely interested in both Pharmacology and Genetics. I am just not sure if i should continue to do Biomed coz I am just good at all subs and i dont particularly hate any sub; or to do Genetics (or Pharmacology) alone, coz it might be very stressful to do pharmacology and genetics tgt, not to mention it doesn't count as a double degree. And the reason i am actually considering specialising is because I figured that I want my course title to be more specific than having just BSc Biomed when I graduate, be it a BSc(Pharmacology/Genetics/both) or the MSci+PPY that i am considering transferring to. What do you reckon I should do? (edit): and thanks for the video. I really feel that I am right that i honenstly like pharmacology and genetics a bit more than other subs(which is why i consider specialising/change my course title next year in the first place) after watching your video, sorta like a reassurance/confirmation!

Hello and I'm sorry for the late reply! honestly after reading what you said, I would say ANYTHING you choose will be okay - I know you must be confused right now, but there is no one option that is better than the rest, they are all good and bad in their own ways - so while I can't help you choose specifically, I can say that whichever one you do - be it s BSc or the MSci option, they might not make a huge difference in the long run. Also, I wouldn't get too caught up over titles, when you get started in the working world, it doesn't matter all that much, only the knowledge and skills you have learnt are important :) good luck with everything lovely!

Hi lovely, unfortunately not no ): Although I doubt it will be too difficult to search it - what I would say is have a good think about if you are really sure about doing it, and then do your research to make a final decision!

depends...some people cant handle chemistry in pharmacy meanwhile some people cant handle biomedical sciences...Its really depends what you interest and what you love to do...How about job? I cant say both of the courses confirm to get a job but if you try hard and show your skill, probably you will get the job...If want easy job well I recommend learn Computer Science course...Its not an easy job but many company wanted workers who have IT and programming skills
