Great to come across a ‘smaller’ channel before it becomes huge as yours definitely will. Excellent, really well produced vids bud

also worth checking out are rosemary and co, good handmade brushes and they have a range of synthetics which are closer to natural than most. thanks for the video, liked and subbed ofc :)

Rosemary & Co are my goto brushes, series 33 or 323, half the price of most popular quality mini painting brands. Had a W&N S7 and it was rubbish, splits after a couple of strokes, never buying another one.

I know having custom work boots made costs 4 to 5 hundred U.S.Dollars. last for years when properly cared for, and can be rebuilt. I had no idea that brushes could cost that much. Like the saying goes, you get what you pay for... Love your video, especially when you open with honesty. Brilliant.

Best video on brush choice and selection I've seen. Well done! The WN series 7 has dropped in quality over the years to the point I know longer buy them. Every one of yhem lost their point after 1 mini where in the past I've kept them for years. Have now moved on to Davinci.

One of my favourite brushes is my Raphael 8204 size 3. A synthetic but I've had it for years and it's still good. Glad you mentioned the Golden Maple brushes, as I've been thinking of getting a set of those recently. Though once I can, I'll be trying out one or two of your recommendations. Thank you )O(

I've been painting for 5 years now and tried lots of different brushes. The one I keep falling back on is the Raphael 8404 Size 1 and 2. I've been using them for 2+ years and they are still going strong "tip-wise" (I also took good care of them with brushsoap and cleaner solutions! - could also be a video idea? how to take care of your brushes). I can really recommend them is what I'm trying to say 😅

Yeh taking care of brushes is essential, I made that video a few years ago but it’s overdue a new version

I wish I could get my hands on the davinci brushes here in the US more easily. I basically stick with rosemary and co

Dick Blick and Jackson’s both stock them stateside. If that helps.

If you think this is impressive. The 9 who work at Windsor newton who make series 7 brushes can distinguish grades of sable hair by eye and feel. To the goddamn millimetre. Which is an absolute insane level of talent.

So impressive I am amazed at anyone with that level of skill

I bought some SUPER cheap brushes from amazon... they are, not good lol. All of them have different lengths despite havien 10x10x10 of the "Same sizes" and they are so hooked haha.

Haha, yeh there is definitely a difference between cheap, and SUPER cheap!

@@RisingApe I'm gonna try ad use them for oils and pin washes, basically just junk them haha... I am having to trim them with scissors.

I bought 4 Raphael brushes after watching how they where made but I still haven't used them, I keep telling myself that I will when I get a bit better at painting but I think I have to rethink my logic to stop being scared of using them.

@@RisingApe yeah when I was watching your vid the thought 'he looks like Shaun's housemate from Shaun Of The Dead' popped into my head haha. Great vid btw, I might have to get myself some Monument synthetic/sable brushes, they appear to be high quality at a reasonable price. That along with a size 1 Series 7 might be the next move! Cheers.

i must be the unluckiest dude, only 1 in 4 natural hair brushes from da vinci turned out good, on the other hand the no-name natural hair ones are 80% good. my experiance tells me only buy the cheaper ones. also they cost only 1/4 to 1/2
@RisingApeАй бұрын
Yes that really is unlucky, for most of my work cheaper brushes are fine, for that last 1% though you can’t beat sable. Do contact DaVinci though they are excellent to work with

I'm always terrified of buying new brushes 😂 there's always that lottery aspect as to whether you'll receive a dud or not. On the whole I've have good experiences trying different kolinsky brushes. My main are rosemary and co series 8 but even then I've had some duds. I tried a size 1 Raphael 8404 but unfortunately that was a dud. Wouldnt hold a tip properly and kept splitting into two immediately when used. Gonna try the monument pro sables next. I've heard good things about them
