QUESTIONS & ANSWERS: Should I use a heat protectant when I use hooded dryers or steamers? - Yes, your hair should not be product free when using a hooded dryer or a steamer What about flat irons? - I personally have only flat ironed my hair twice since I’ve been natural. It is really hard to avoid heat damage if you flat iron your hair, especially if you flat iron your hair consistently.
@cfoster68046 жыл бұрын
I keep hearing a lot of people say using oil in the hair with heat is like frying it but I feel like that was addressed when she said oil heats up the hair quicker so you can use LESS heat. Maybe we are frying our hair because we are using the same amount of heat (probably out of habit) as we do when we use commercial heat protectants. Back in the day pressing oil was big and women straightened regularly and still had nice thick hair.

You are truly on here to help us learn about our hair AND to advocate for us (great job with the military btw!). And it doesn't go unnoticed that while we are free to go onto your site and purchase products, you ALSO show us HOW to prepare these items for ourselves or how to use common household items for our hair. I love this channel! Someone asked how did we not get her damage back in the day.... I think we did what was passed down to us that worked. Did we even know the term.. Heat damage😎 My hair was washed and pressed with a hot comb every 4 to 6 weeks. I had close to bra length hair. Using hair grease and whatever shampoo we had. And dippity do! Yes I'm a woman of a certain age..😂. There was no you tube or so called black hair products. My hair was healthy and long and just mine🥰 It wasn't 4z or hi lo porosity.. For all the information and products.. Makes me wonder if our hair is better for it. I'm pretty old school. I love this channel because she keeps it basic and real!

*Greetings GreenBeauty and subscribers* 💖 I've been a member of Team Natural since 2007, Recently I have been EXTREMELY SERIOUS about taking better care of my hair. It's so overwhelming because its SO MUCH WORK to care for natural, curly, low porosity hair. Its a lot of work AND knowledge to take in. Prepoo, cowashing (what is cowashing?) LOC vs. LCO, rice water, tea rinses, ACV, deep conditioning, detangling, leave in conditioning, split ends, maintaining moisture, stretching the hair- MY GOD it can be discouraging because I have no clue when to do what and what to do in between. I am curious to know if the water quality affects your hair. Tap water from the shower has a lot of minerals and its "hard water". Does it really make any difference what kind of water I use? Whether its alkaline, distilled or purified water does it really make a difference in the health of my hair? A topic like water quality and hair would make a very interesting video. Love your videos. Congratulations on your move to Hawaii. NEW SUBBIE HERE❤❤❤

What do you think of silicones, specifically dimethecone, as a heat protectant?
@MekaSharee6 жыл бұрын
This is your first video that i am just not down with lol....i personally wouldn't or wouldn't recommend anyone using oil BEFORE straightening. I feel like it creates unnecessary burning and effects how good the results can be. I think silicone based products (which is basically what is in most heat protectants) is most effective. Again, this is my opinion and i'm very much a supporter and believer in this channel before anyone attempts to argue for no reason...

Yeah, natural hair KZbinr nappyfu says the same thing, check out her videos on blow drying and heat protectants! She uses a lot of good information
@kimonalova5 жыл бұрын
That's why you should do the protein treatment first to add coat onto your hair and coating oil preferably oil with a higher burning point, (looking at the info she provided Avocado oil seems to have the highest burning point with 271°C) and then use low heat 165°C for instance.

I know this series is mostly on stretching (unlocked)hair, but since it's winter I'm in need of a faster way to dry my locs as well as to ensure that they don't have a chance to develop mold. Should I worry about protecting my hair if I only intend to dry it anyway? I know locs are semi-stretched, to begin with. Thanks for all your hard work and research!

Hey 👋🏾 even though you are just drying your Locs. You’re still gonna want to protect it so it doesn’t look to weathered over time. Use an oil an an acidic spritz but, since you have Locs and want to avoid build-up just use a little bit at a time

My question is: can protein be used on henna hair? If so when is the best time to apply it after an initial henna application in terms of, one week later etc.?
@petrichor1002 жыл бұрын
It would be great if you would create a natural heat protectant. All store-bought products are loaded with different types of silicons. While this works initially, I find that it make my hair progressively drier. It also weigh it down quite a bit. I have loose hair and while still not a %100 sure of my hair porosity , I think I have moved from medium (naturally) to a very high porosity hair. Oils makes my hair look greasy and flat. Using just a little bit of oil won't provide the coverage needed to protect my hair strands.until the right product comes out, I find it easier to use low heat and take forever to blow dry
