OMG! I need this. I have recently decided to be a straight natural...again. I use heat WEEKLY. I have purchased every expensive thing to help minimize the damage (Revair, Dyson Corrale, K18 bond builder). They help out a ton (especially that K18 my hair is literally improving with each use despite all the heat) but always looking for more tips and tricks. So I'd say the K18 is my one thing that saves my hair. It's 10x better than Olaplex. Thanks!

I’ve been natural off and on since 2009 and I’ve learned that my curl pattern changed 3-4 times after each big chop. I was able to grow my hair long and healthy, but I did not like how my hair changed and the heat made my curl pattern very loose. Now that I finally have my super tight curls back I wouldn’t dare risk flat ironing my hair for a temporary look. I’ll just grab a straight wig. Great video!!! I love your content and can’t wait to see more videos.

I use to consider myself a "straight natural" until about 3 years ago. I chopped off my damaged ends over time. My current styles allow me to put moisture (water) in my hair throughout the week. I havent put heat in my hair for over a year and I've never had so much growth. Ive realized that Im not 3c but 4a/4b. And now my hair has changed to low porosity. Which I'm loving. I'm not saying I'll never use heat again, but the cost-benefit ratio isn't hitting at the moment. If I want hang time, I'll stretch my hair (african threading, twisted buns, and braids), or wear a wig. Great video 💕

As always, wonderful tips! Yes, I do use heat and like you suggest, I use heat protectants in phasing… before the first heat pass and again before the final heat pass. My hair has responded beautifully. Also, I don’t use heat any higher than 375 degrees. This has made a world of a difference. Thanks again!! Looking. Forward to your next video!

Straight-hair natural here! I use heat every two weeks and press my hair with a hot comb….yes, you read it correctly. I find that flatirons do more damage to my fine strands because I can’t control the heat. A hot comb cools over time and the hair at the bottom of a section doesn’t get as much heat as my roots. One thing that has helped me is the 2-min aphogee protein treatment every other wash day. I also like elasticity treatments such as ouidad and moknowshair curl restoring treatment. I use to think my hair didn’t like protein….but now I realize that it does ok with moisturizing protein treatments like ORS hair Mayo, and 2-min aphogee product.

I do the heat protectant layering too! I use a lotion type for blow drying then a serum type for flat ironning. I don't get sleek results but I want more of a volumous look anyways. I also still seal at the end with a light serum to help avoid early reversion. I'd like to think I'm also sealing in any moisture but I'm not sure about that. As always thanks for the science beyond it!

You hit the SPOT this time! Was thinking about what I would do in the future with my hair. THIS is my answer. You mentioned not too long ago, using a ponytail as a protective hairstyle. Your saying that was GOD answering a prayer to me. I researched ponytails and settled on one with bangs and curls. When I'm done with the ponytail, I'll use heat and possibly cut my hair in a style...verdict still out on that. THANK you SO much for all the information. My hair is flourishing now. Just working on my TEMPLES, but you just did a video for that.

I used to use heat because I only wore my hair straight. I never really had damage unless I had blonde highlights while flat ironing. I got protein treatments at the salon every 4-6 months. My home wash routine was Shampoo, Conditioner, Leave in Conditioner, heat protectant, blow dry, flat iron at 425-450 degrees, finishing spray or serum. Now I wear my hair Curly all the time & I am highly tempted to add flat ironing back in, BUT I'm afraid of what it will do to my curl pattern. I don't want to lose my curly curls. The struggle is real

I try to use heat once every six months before i install a long-term protective hairstyle. I only blow dry and never flat iron. My hair is always strong because instead of a deep conditioner, I use a cholesterol treatment. On wash day, when I moisturize, I apply my leave-in, castor oil then heat protectant then I give my hair two days to dry and absorb most of the sealing oil. Right before I'm about to blow dry, I apply the heat protectant again. I use the tension method then my Denman brush to assist me in blow drying.

1. I take my daughter to the salon to do protective styles n the stylist always blow dry the hair. I normally wash her hair before I take her. What do I need to apply to her hair to protect it from the heat? 2. How do I prepare my hair for a silk press?

We share a process! I've been burned by heat before 😏 so I'm careful. I used raw oils before but I just bought/used the Silk Infusion (I like it, but it's hard to know if I've used too much or too little) I only use heat after a recent protein treatment, I deep condition beforehand (though not I'm not sure if I should. What are your thoughts on DCing before using heat?), and I ride the cool and low heat settings. I honestly don't know if I'll ever DIY straighten my hair again. My first/last experience wasn't worth it (probably a mix of inexperience and poor products). But the blowdryer is fine sometimes and the hooded dryer is an old friend.

Is it ok to apply heat on your hair after you have put on an oil, like Olive Oil or Avacado oil etc.?

Should you use a heat protector before moisturizing your hair or after? I have never used one before, so I'm clueless about them.

No heat! I am one of those lazy naturals, lol. I wash my hair every 3-4 weeks. I use aruvedic products on my wash days, deep condition, moisturize, and twist. I'm done after that.🤣

Best way I preserve my hair dealing with heat is to only use INDIRECT heat. Wash/deep condition/steam/air dry or roller set and done. Blow dryers are not for afro hair and they tear my hair up. Pressing combs should be banned. Flat irons, ok to use sparingly definitely no more than once a month for my hair.

Hello. I was wondering do I need to use an heat protectant when I use my blow dryer on a cool setting? I don’t use heat that often, unless it’s a occasional press and curl. I have high porosity hair and I know I need to do a protein treatment. Thank you for the wash day tips. Sorry for the long message, hope to hear from you soon.

I have low porosity hair that is protein sensitive. I use heat to dry my hair. I was wondering how would I know if I needed a protein treatment?

I needed this too. I got a lil heat damage in a small section a few months agi but the weekly curl bond fixed that but it has made me nervous to press it again. Should you deep condition your hair also for the preparation?

I always do a protein based masque nowadays before straightening my hair, plus a silicone based conditioner after my wash. Anything under 400 degrees is just childish for me, I might as well not straighten it all, it'll just be a blow out. My hair is mid-back length, but shrinks to my ears/back of neck. Still never had heat damage and I straighten maybe 3-5 times a year.

Same, what's the point of straightening if it's not to have bone straight. If I want an elongated style I won't bother with all the straightening process

@@malyasha7659 Exactly, just do a braid out or something to stretch and then stretch more with a blow out if needed. Otherwise, if I'm using a flat iron, it's gotta be above 400

I started using heat but I think that I’m going to stop though because it’s not where I need it to be: towards the front of my head. I may need to cut it short or off and let it grow out more because I’m not looking right by the head lol and that’s just not who I am 🥺😔🤦🏾‍♀️. However I do use a blow dryer and a heat cap for DC. Going to change shampoo + conditioner: thinking about SheaMoisture or Carol’s Daughter, for 4C low-po hair.
