Great video! Beleive it or not I love using the Black, Cream Polish. I used Kiwi, in the past, on my favorite pair of Allen Edmonds and once I tried the Saphir Medaille d'Or I was sold. I would love to see a video on what Kirby's shoe collection looks like! That would be cool.

I got the Neutral to go with new pair of shoes. The patina is blue with a black toe cap, hence the choice of color. Question ... 1) you mentioned experimenting so would getting the marine blue 'lighten' the toe cap unnecessarily ? 2) would adding neutral wax polish as the next layer accentuate the black toe cap back to a stronger hue ?

Great video. Looking back at when I first started collecting and investing in higher quality shoes, I definitely was way too freaked out about matching polish to shoe color. I remember studying the light brown and wondering whether it was safe for copper museum for an hour, lol. Super helpful of you to put them on the white paper, especially for a color like bordeaux, which looks way better with that contrast than what I would have imagined when you see it in the container.
@vladislav24717 жыл бұрын
I used too to think too much of matching polish colors and then I realized that you can mix colors on shoes...
@kirbyallison7 жыл бұрын
@TylerClendenin @Darth Vader - You both are so right. People call in all the time stressing way too much about matching their polish color. In addition to being almost impossible on anything other than black, it's unnecessary: seeing the shoes evolve over the years is part of what makes owning beautiful shoes so fun and satisfying!

Hello! This is a bit unrelated to the video, but I have a question regarding shoecare nonetheless. My brown leather shoes took the rain yesterday and developed some black stains at the tips of the toes. I let them air-dry from a day but they did not disappear. Should I rather use conditioning nourishing cream or brown wax polish? Thanks for all your very informative videos by the way.
@vladislav24717 жыл бұрын
Cédric M I would use first conditinier then Saphir repair cream and then cream polish
@kirbyallison7 жыл бұрын
Cédric M Water spots are hard to remove. One thing you can do is submerge the entire shoe in water to even put the stain. Or you can polish the affected area with darker polish to blend it.

@Killer3904 жыл бұрын
Seems like the tobacco since I can see some red in that brown, of course you can lighten or darken the shoe with other shades of brown if you desire. If you want even more red, it looks like the mahogany has even more red than the tobacco.

Good afternoon Sir, Thank you for your posts and your store. I have a question regarding adding depth to leather. I’ve heard you mention using Navy to add depth to Black and using different Reds to do the same for red leather. What do you suggest to add depth to Dark Browns? Really, all shades of Brown. I’ve got a few pairs of shoes and boots, some I polish to a mirror finish and others to a Satin finish. There isn’t a brand that I’m loyal to though I do side a bit toward Saphir. Would there be any downsides to using 2 or 3 different brands to obtain great results in depth? Your help is truly appreciated!

Kirby - Thanks for your informative videos and your killer product selection. I owe you a debt for introducing me to the world of Saphir. Quick question for you. I've had a pair of walnut AE Cliftons for a little more than a year. They've received relatively light wear, but I've limited their care routine to a cleaner/conditioner and Renovateur. I recently noticed the finish appears to be degrading along the crease points through the vamp. Is this normal, or is it due to the lack of regular application of cream polish? I assume the latter will help restore the faded color, but I didn't expect this level of fading from the quality calfskin AE claims to use.

I have a pair of Bed Stu boots that are a dark grey with black tones. I really want to know if I should use a grey or a dark grey. The dark grey only exists in the beeswax cream, which people like less than the product shown in this video.

Hey Kirby, thanks for the video. Was very informative and I learned a great deal. I own a pair of colour 8 shell cordovan boots from Alden, and I would like the colour and patina of the shoes to develop as naturally as possible. Was wondering if you could comment on which polish would bring me in that direction, i.e. preserving the natural colour and patina but give the shoes a good shine and restoring the oils, etc, as per regular boot care. Is the neutral the best way to go in that case? I’m also asking because I’ve read some sources that say that the neutral polish should not be used on cordovan shoes because of teh turpentine in them. Thanks and looking forward to your reply

Hi Kirby, I sell mens dress shoes on ebay, mainly Allen Edmonds, some Church's etc. A lot of shoes I find are fairly beat up. I'd like to restore the color as close as I can. My question is, do the Saphir Médaille d'Or Pommadier Cream act as a bit of dye? I'm actually hoping they do as most of the shoes I find need the color infusion. Love the channel. Thx

I have a question about the appropriate products to use on a new purchase. I just bought shoes from Crockett & Jones (Ashdown Dark Brown Country Calf Grain). I already bought Saphir Dark brown creme and shoe polish (as advised by the store). But the shoes have a little touch of burgundy/red in the color. Would you suggest using a different color or using the dark brown? I would like to maintain the burgundy notes in the color, if possible. Thank you.

You could certainly try it. Or even a Hermes Red. It's fun to play around and you don't have to worry about ever ruining your shoes. If you're unhappy with the result, simply strip the polish using the Saphir Reno'Mat.

I am trying to find out what the difference is between the cream you are using in this video and the saphir that comes with a blue and gold top?
@kirbyallison7 жыл бұрын
The Saphir Beauty Cuir (SBC, as I call it, or their standard blue label), is a good polish. It is definitely better than all of other polishes we used in this video. It contains high-quality waxes and uses natural solvents. However, the difference between the SBC and the MDO is in quality, concentration, and variety of waxes, ingredients. Saphir Medaille d'Or contains a different and higher concentration of hard and soft waxes, which is why you get an easier, higher shine than in the Beauty Cuir. It also contains a higher concentration and quality of pigments, which produces better recoloring and restoration of the finish. And there is a "huge difference" in the waxes you are using in the Saphir Pommadier MDO vs. SBC. The Saphir SBC uses almond oil vs the shea butter in the Medaille d’Or. Combined with the unique combination of the other waxes, the Saphir Medaille d'Or is a much better nourishing polish and produces a higher-quality, longer-lasting shine. Lower quantity of beeswax in the Medaille d’Or vs. vegetable saxes, which produce better nourishing. MDO contains carnuba wax (I'm spelling this incorrectly), which is a harder wax that produces a higher shine. Tons of differences... is the Saphir Beauty Cuir good? Yes. Is it better than the Saphir Medaille d'Or? No.

Hi I'm trying to polish a pair of shoes that has a a darker toe box and a very light top. Is there any video that can show us how to blend that properly??
@kirbyallison7 жыл бұрын
Hi Henry! I wouldn't worry too much about it. I would start with the lighter polish first. If you get some of the polish onto the darker part, it isn't going to affect anything. I'd then polish the areas with the darker polishes. All polishes are translucent, so they naturally blend.
