Hey Everyone! We no longer advocate personality tests due to poor reliability and career predictability, as well as the shady occult origins of the Enneagram and MBTI. I’m not into fast space and complex nursing care. I’m a psych nurse right out of nursing school and I love it. It isn’t always slow and just about therapeutic communication with patients. This week we had 1 code strong where we needed up restraining and secluding a pretty big guy. We had 1 patient with EPS synptoms from the psych drugs and that was exciting. Yes it slow but I like that but the biggest advantage is that I actually get to sit talk to patients and educate them. Something I never saw happen in med surge as a student following a nurse. It’s too fast paced and pt ED is missed many times. Not all the time but it happens

Hello again Nurse Sarah! Now that I'm officially a new Nurse RN graduate (as of July 2018) and I'm also officially an "old coot" (ha ha....63 years old in Nov.!) I find myself with the dilemma of if I should work as a Nurse (I never got into it for money, but for other reasons) and if the answer is yes I should, than thankfully I found this video because I'm gonna take the personality quiz and find out what I can do (or want to do)......Again, a big thank you for yet another great tool for all of us new (and old) Nurses. Take care!

I'm an introvert as well going back for an accelerated nursing program. I enjoy getting to know my patients and not get overwhelmed. I'd really like to be an NP working in a clinic in adult/gerontology field. I'm trying to look into specialities to work as a nurse such as oncology, cardiology, mental health, occupational therapy or any others. Looking for some good ideas. I'm a CNA in med/surge and gets super busy at times and overwhelming.

This video has been really helpful. I am consolidating in the ER and chose this speciality because I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and see how I would perform in a fast paced, critical environment compared to my previous placements on med surg units . Its only been 3 weeks and I don’t think it is where I’d want to work. I had the opportunity last semester to shadow in a cardiac procedure unit and loved it! They require ER/ICU experience though. But it shows me that I love more outpatient nursing. I didn’t even know what ISJF was until now and I completely identify with it! I always thought I’d be more extrovert and like the more critical specialties but honestly it’s so stressful and I see myself burning out so quick! This video has helped me realize that I have to listen to myself and not set expectations to be some “badass, superhero” nurse working in the ER/ICU. There are so many opportunities out there. Just have to find the areas/ environments that I can thrive in.

My only concern now is that I will be graduating soon and don’t know if I should start off in a place such as the ER or cardiology to gain more skills and experience or find a laid back job. Also if I should complete the NCLEX first or work on a temp license while studying for NCLEX? So many decisions !!!!! Adulting ain’t easy lol

This is very true about trying to match your personality with the type of nursing job that would fit you. Unfortunately there are those jobs where they want you to have at least 1 year of bedside (preferably med-surg) before they even consider you for employment.

I already know what I want to specialize in; Wound Care (esp. home health visits). I'm a CNA and having to do so much ripping and running around isn't for me. High-stress environments aren't for me. I'd rather work one on one and I like to befriend my patients ANNNNND ALSO I loooooove working by myself. I'm not saying I'm not a team player but I work best when I'm alone or with minimal distractions. I'm not saying I wouldn't be able to be successful in other specialties, but as a person and a professional, I wouldn't thrive the way I would want too.

Gosh, I have been a nurse since 1988 and I wish I would have had something like this when I graduated. I do feel I am introverted but I have never taken the quiz. Thanks, good to know.

I am am in my first year as a nursing student in Europe. I have great experience working with NGOs and I think I am very good in community education, advocacy and research. I am still trying to find where I can fit in as a nurse. Considering a balance where I can still make a difference in my home country. focusing on health.

@RegisteredNurseRN
@RegisteredNurseRN 7 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, there is a field of nursing where you can become a substance abuse nurse. These nurses tend to work in psychiatric hospitals or mental health facilities. So, you need to become a registered nurse and apply to work in one of those areas and you will lean how to be a substance abuse nurse and you can become certified. Best wishes!

Sarah, did you start as a floor nurse? I am a new graduate and am considering a position like that but I am an ISTJ. Although I would really love an OR position I am a new grad with 0 experience.
@RegisteredNurseRN
@RegisteredNurseRN 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I sure did. It is a great place to obtain that new nurse experience. As an ISTJ, you may find it exhausting after a while and may want to switch specialties after about a year. The OR may be a great fit for you. I've known new graduates who went immediately to the OR and loved it. They are still there 10 years later. I say go with what interests you because you will enjoy your work better. I wish you the best :)

Thank you so much!!! All through nursing school I would say I would never work as a regular floor nurse but I have to start somewhere and had a good feel of the unit and adored the director, supervisor, & charge nurse that interviewed me. Your team makes a huge difference in my opinion. I was also offered a job with a skilled nursing facility (nursing home basically) that pays quite a bit more but just not sure I should start there. This is tough...
@RegisteredNurseRN
@RegisteredNurseRN 7 жыл бұрын
Very exciting! Both would provide great experience. It is a good sign you had a good vibe about the unit you interviewed on. I say definitely follow your gut and everything will work out. It is so important to like your supervisors and charge nurses. I wish you the best with your decision.

@@stefs1155 Those LTC facilities pay way more than hospitals as a new grad but one of my friend started working @ a rehab facility as a new grad & hated every part of it b/c of the high # of pt to RN ratio. They interviewed her and told her the max is 15 pts but on most days she said it is 25+ & u have to chart on all of them. It's a no go. How is it so far tho? Since ur not a new grad anymore. Pls share your experience. I'm brand new to this.

i’m graduating high school soon and i know i want to be a nurse, and probably work in the ER but i’m not sure if i should be an RN or nurse practitioner. What do you recommend?
@rebeccac.l.5601
@rebeccac.l.5601 3 жыл бұрын
You have to get your RN before you can do NP, so I say start there, work it for a few years, and then you can decide if you want to do NP and what specialty. If you do ER as an RN and decide you absolutely love it, then consider ACNP or FNP.
