I am learning a lot from you thanks. I appreciate that you get to the point and cover plenty in a short time. I would like to know more on this topic for instance what is best for a taller oncidium type and how to stabilize them. Well actually more on methods to stabilize them in their pots. and the upright flower spike is well not so much a challenge but I would not mind more ideas does and donts.

Great Job Amanda !! I just recieved my first order of sphagnum moss, and its getting about that time to repot a couple of my orchids. I really have enjoyed their beautiful blooms, and they have happy sap on one of them. plus a KEIKI !! Im so proud of that one Kinda worried about the winter coming up, but will play that one by ear. Keep up the good work.

Hi Mark! Thank you so much for that comment. I appreciate it. Happy sap plus a keiki. That's awesome!!! For winter, I have to use a seedling mat under my pots. That's usually enough to keep their roots warm.

One again Amanda ... an appropriate video. I have three keiki Phals in small plastic "pots" (cut off plastic soda bottle bottoms), and they are doing very well, so far! I now realise I have to keep my keen eye on them, since they took a few months to adapt to their "little home". Their roots are good, and so are their leaves. Two of them have new leaf growths. So, it's "close monitor" time. Their mother plant is doing quite well, leaves all over the place, but no spike!! I bought it from our Orchid Nursery earlier this year, but unfortunately, no ID!! (I'm hoping it's white!).
@Orchideria3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lyn! I have several in cut off soda bottle bottoms. LOL I also have one in an old popcorn plastic pot. Whatever works and is easy it the best solution in my opinion. New leaf growth is a great sign for the little keikis because they always work on roots first, then leaves, then the flower spike. So if they are putting out new leaves, they might feel that their roots have already adjusted. That's awesome. As for the no ID, time is the only answer. *fingers crossed it's white!

I found a brand called Rosebud, made of bio plastic. There are many holes, almost like a screen, both on the sides and bottom, so great drainage. Not cheap, a 6” pot is around $25. I like that they are a “plastic” made out of biodegradable materials, but kind of cute too.

Amanda thanks for the acknowledgment. My so called mini Phalaenopsis grew out of the 1.5 inch pot in 6 months. Fell in love with the Orchitop pots which are 3 inches. These were rescue supermarket orchids. We have our ups and downs with roots. Even with root loss they will not fit in a pot smaller than 3 inches. Hope to get blooms this fall. Found a company that makes 2 inch plastic pots. My Leptotes Bicolor just loves these pots. Thanks for this video.

Hi Bettapal Fish, I appreciated your comment, so I thought, why not? LOL. Mini's can be a struggle sometimes with the roots. It seems like the smaller they are, the harder they are to pot.

@Orchideria3 жыл бұрын
Hi Karen, Thank you so much for your words and your patience. Something came up and I couldn't answer your question right away. Anyway, I appreciate both. Orchid pots are hard to come by, and when I find them, they usually are expensive. I have bought from amazon before on this link ( amzn.to/3otaCuh ) but their pots are 6 inch to 8 inch, and a bit expensive (in my opinion). If you have a huge orchid with an extensive root system, they are great. They're sturdy and hold up nicely. Most my orchids aren't that big. I usually make my own pots from leftover stuff that I don't need and cut holes myself. If I find a place that sells smaller pots later on, I'll link to them and let you know.

@Orchideria3 жыл бұрын
Hi Melissa, I'm sure they'll do fine. 😊 It isn't going to hurt them as much as potting them in a huge pot, like 6x what is needed. If they are sturdy, then not that much harm was done. Rest assured... they'll adapt. Since you used the next size up, you're still in the safe zone. Any bigger, it would really hurt.

@Orchideria3 жыл бұрын
Hi Giada, Thank you for watching my videos. I appreciate it. You can grow it in glass, but it's a while different process called either semi-water culture or full water culture. The watering will be totally different and so will the drying out period. I have a video in both of those, if you'd like. They are under the playlist of watering (I think). I'll check and get back to you. I don't mention the glass pots in this video because I think for a lot of beginners, it's best to try with the potting media first.

Hi Amanda, can u give some idea on how to water n when to fertilizer shelob Tolkien, tks.
@Orchideria3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dorothy, Miltassa shelob Tolkein are beautiful, aren't they? I don't have a care guide up about them, but if you look online, there are several care guides about both Miltonias and Brassias, which are their parents, and you'll find more information. I think they are now called Bratonia, but I have to check. I don't have a specific fertilizer for each orchid. I usually fertilize all my orchids with the same water, so it makes applying fertilizer a lot easier. I know that's not the recommended method, but that's what I do. I usually apply 20-20-20- every other week and in the mid weeks I apply a supplement, either calcium, boron, or magnesium. I think this video might help you out and give you a few steps in how to start the fertilizer: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXnShWSNe8aIsM0

Hi Amanda if you remember me I got 7 ice orchids about June Well they was all in bloom. So I would say there summer bloomers. They ended flowing I say about 2 months ago. All fine new leafs and roots. But one has shooted again to flower again as I cut steams to bottom once the first or second bloom finished. I thought they rest over winter ready for next year spring. The stem over foot going up and definitely tell it's stem and not air root and it's a little higer from last stems which is normal. Is it common to have full bloon in summer and to flower in winter as I would said not winter bloomer. Lee
@Orchideria3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lee, That's awesome!! A rebloomer! It's common in Phals to bloom several times. If they really like your care and it's in their genetics, some can rebloom all year long. In that case, just keep doing the routine you're doing. It's working. :)

Hi, Amanda I am curious, if it’s only in the plastic pot, it doesn’t get algae when sun or light is present for a lot of hours daily ?
@Orchideria2 жыл бұрын
Hi Vicky, The algae will grow in the plastic pot and that is normal. As long as you can cut it down some, and keep it under control, it's actually healthy for the orchid. It gives off gas exchanges that benefit the orchid. Once it grows too fast, then it's a problem. I made a video about algae that you can watch here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4DMk6Gie9KAkLs I hope that helps.
