I have heard so many times to just add more air if cold. Your explanation of why this doesn't work makes so much sense.

I am a former Salvage diver in the Puget Sound in Washington State. 45-52 F (7-11 C) I wore a Viking hazmat suit with Integrated hood, full face mask, and thin gloves so I could tie knots better, but my hands would go numb after 3 to 6 hours of work. There were several times where I became mildly Hypothermic and now a few years later I can no longer keep my extremities warm.

nice video (as always), I would have add some general guideline for temperature as well, I have several undergarments (up to 400gr like yours) and sometimes I have doubts which should I use based on bottom water temp. Having some comments from your experience would be great! ps. again, great videos and hope to drive up to Denmark for some dives as I go there often for work

It's very subjective and depends on the dive as well like duration and gasses used ( breathing He can also cool you down ) but in general under 10-12°C I use BZ400x on long dives 120min or more I add heated vest or even a thin fleece layer. Between 10-18C° I use BZ200 long exposure and I add the same heated vest. Above 18-20C° Thin fleece or BZ200 for longer exposures. If you are in doubt, rather go warmer than colder. Looking forward to diving with you!

Ben, thanks for the awesome tip for the Reflectix inside the boots. Do I need to use thick hangers for the undergarments like the 2-1/2 cm thick ones?

Thanks for the like and comment! I was my undergarments in sports watch at a low temp 30c and yes hang dry on wide hangers. But do check your manufacturers tag for special treatments

Hi Ben, if you should choose today, would you take bz400 with build in heat or still choose on one with out heat + the vest? (i think about which i should choose for the 5 C water temp we have now in dk 😊)

Good question, I think it depends on what you want to spend for extra comfort. The suits are the same from a “non electric” point of view. Så the heated version lets you increase the comfort and safety on long long dives. Just be aware that it draws 110w. So when using it on the long dives you would need a pretty big battery. Especially when you combine it with the heated gloves. I would love the electric suit for the long 3hr + decompression og overhead dives and than for the majority of shorter dives. Use the standard one. I can just chuck that in the washing mashine, whereas the heated one needs to be hand washed. Hope this helps.

Hi Ben, I watched your older video about the Fourth Element Halo 3D. How would you compare that with the Santi BZ400 (non-electric)? Thinking of upgrading from my current 4thE Arctic suit.
@UTD_ScubaDiving
@UTD_ScubaDiving 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Babak, the Fourth Element suits are great and made with top-quality fleece, believe me not all fleece is created equal. The Halo 3d is a nice and warm suit with great flexibility. Although its not as warm as the Santi BZ400. Also the shell-like outer fabric of the BZ400 makes it a bit more durable over time. Both are great suits. If you go for the BZ400 make sure you try it on before buying and if you are in doubt of the sizing and you feel you are between 2 sizes go one bigger.

How do u pee with a dry suit on?
@UTD_ScubaDiving
@UTD_ScubaDiving 3 жыл бұрын
Using a so-called pee-valve. No joke :-) men use a catheter condom and woman a special designed Shee-Pee ( TM) and connect that to a hose with a one way valve. A godsend

Going a size up is not necessarily the right move. Santi, and other manufacturers, offer MTM undersuits too.. if you don't fit into a standard size, go MTM, don't oversize.
@UTD_ScubaDiving
@UTD_ScubaDiving 3 жыл бұрын
That is a very good point! Thanks for your addition. Even their drysuits can be altered with minor changes free of charge. I Love that flexibility and commitment.
@morswin

@@UTD_ScubaDiving I envy divers who actually properly fit into standard sizes. But I am also happy to note that most manufacturers offer MTM, even if often at a cost. Then again, if you are investing some 2000€ into a suit and undersuit, paying 10% extra is not really that bad to have it fit properly.

It was promised to provide links to ALL the products, however the base layer is missing so that was a freaking lie :(

@benbos1925 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry I forgot. The baselayer in this video is a J2 from fourth Element. A bit expensive but super nice kit. Verry technical gear. Har perfect wicking and also a waffle texture on the inside adding some warmth. There are silver fibres woven in to help protect against smellyness and works antibacterial. The other baselayer I use is from Hagløfs, its a discontinued model but, look for a sports baselayer and if you you want some extra warmth look for them with marino wool included. Hope this helps, sorry for forgetting the links. fourthelement.com/j2-baselayer/
