After some digging through some old Brunswick catalogs, I believe the first bowling ball I ever used was the Brunswick Power Blitz Purple. It was a gift from my grandmother. Then 10 or so years later, I bought a Brunswick Power Groove. This is the ball that reinvigorated my love of bowling after years of not doing so, and I'm still bowling to this day. Thanks grandma (RIP) for giving me a hobby I can do for years to come.

The Power Groove was FANTASTIC for a "beginner" ball. They made one for super dry lanes called the Power Groove Dry and I shot my first ever 279 with it.

I just got into bowling about a year ago and did one league. My first balls are the rhino that was the first ball you threw, and I have the purple/ pink tropical surge ball. I just got these 2 balls about 8 months ago, and I also have a bag and my own shoes. I'm also going to be starting bowling lessons.

My first ball was an Ebonite Maxim. I bowled straight up the middle throwing as fast as I could, and near the end of my league season last year I tried learning how to hook the ball. I knew i needed something designed to hook. After watching this video, and a few others, I bought the Rhino. I went from bowling 120-140 to a 175 average, even had my first ever 200 games! I’ve also learned how to close my spares, but my strike percentage has gone up tremendously just by getting a ball like the Rhino and learning how to throw it. Year 2 of league is off to a great start!

That is crazy as your experience is very similar to mine so far, my first ball was also the ebonite maxim and I also found that just bowling straight down the middle was the best. I also averaged 120 - 140 with it, although my last session I managed to get a 162 with it. I just ordered a Rhino with my local bowling shop, so I am excited to learn. I did try to join a bowling league but did not have a group to go with and no group there needed another player. I can't wait to start bowling with my Rhino as well. I wish you the best of luck in your Journey!

I just got into bowling so right now my only ball is my first ball. My grandpa gave me his old ball, its a "phenom unleashed" none of my bowler friends had heard of it. Turns out the ball was used in 2006 which is older then me by almost a year. Still don't know exactly how old tho.

I can’t remember what I had in the mid 70s as a kid. I just remember it was a red pearlized ball. In the early 80s, when I got more serious, I had a red pearl Hammer (Faball) and a blue Hammer. I still have the Columbia Black Knight for spares today. I took a long break from bowling, and now I am back with a Burner pearl. This ball rolls really well on our local house shot.

And as much as I enjoy this channel, I can't agree that ANY of those three kinds of bowling balls should be a first ball for any beginner. It really depends on what type of bowler these beginners are. Most of the beginners in my league can hardly hit a target on the lane let alone hook a bowling ball. Also nearly all of them are either speed or RPM dominant. So to me I'd say that beginners should start with a spare ball and stay with it until they throw their first clean game. If you can throw a clean game just throwing your spare ball, you're ready to start hooking it. And you're also able to determine whether you are speed or RPM dominant since TRUE RPMs can only be determined WITH a spare ball. That's when you get with a PSO who can measure speed and RPMs, then with THAT information you can determine a beginner ball. Because the Rhino/Twist/Raw/Tropical line is NOT for speed dominant bowlers. They will slide like a spare ball. Supra rally will burn up for the speed dominant crowd since it's too much ball for them and will lose energy for RPM dominant bowlers. Only bowlers with a lot of RPMs should EVER throw the Purple. To me, asym solids and hybrids are the way to go for new bowlers who are speed dominant. Black Widow 2.0, Widow 2.0 Hybrid, Gem, big hook balls like that. Asyms are incredibly predictable, especially solid ones. RPM dominant bowlers could probably benefit from a sym solid.

First ball is a 12lb Hammer Claw Lite, technically it’s urethane which is a no no, but it was a hand me down from a stranger at the lanes, so it was very weak and just about as strong as a urethane house ball, good for sparing but I don’t throw strikes with it First true reactive ball is 14lb used Raw Hammer Solid, had to get it re drilled twice due to a bad PSO, but I learned to roll the ball instead of twisting the ball with it and I have been continuously improving since

Columbia 300 Freeze, was great when i threw with no thumb but once i put my thumb in it was sooo uncontrollable. i mainly throw a purple hammer now, i know people say it's not great for league, but for my high revs but slower ballspeed, it just seems to find its way to the pocket no matter how much i miss my mark. If it is going high, i just throw a little harder and it tends to work. Been trying out two-handed as well and it works well for that. Absolutely love it as i prefer straighter angles

My first year on a league, I was a total beginner and my team captain gave me one of his spare balls...the HAMMER BLUE PEARL. That ball is IMPOSSIBLE to hook, so I just had to get super accurate with my aim and pretty much throw it 20+ mph every time up to try and get a ton of pin action to compensate for the lack of pocket penetration. I've moved on from the blue pearl, but to this day I still find it hard to slow the ball down because I spent years trying to throw it like Nolan Ryan. HAHA!

Had an accident in 1985 and nearly lost my dominant thumb and gave up bowling. Decided I wanted to start bowling again. My first ball getting back was a grey Rhino in 1987 or 88. Used it, maybe, 50 games. Still have it. Fast forward to around 2008 or so. Thought I'd start bowling again and bought a Brunswick Power Groove Reactive. Again, about 50 games on it and stopped bowling. Ready to start bowling again. I'm going to try the Power Groove this weekend but I've already got my eye on a new ball. Thinking either Rhino, Attitude, or Raw Hammer. Was going to have the thumb on my old Rhino widened to fit me now but local pro shop said it would be a waste of money. He said the ball is outdated and only good as a spare ball at best.

My first resin ball was the Brunswick Attitude 2. Was given to me by my coach during my freshman year of college bowling since he wanted me on the team but all I had was a spare ball. Would then physically pay for an Ebonite Ice later that season (2004-2005). And then during my gap year I started getting into the particle stuff (Ebonite XXXcel) and resin pieces that were the closest thing to particle without actually being particle (Brunswick Ultimate Inferno, Ebonite The One). Still have my Ultimate Inferno, I'll never sacrifice it/sell it. Shot my very first 700 with it waaaay back in 2006 or so. Between the Ultimate Inferno and The One, I haven't thrown anything better. Brunswick Evil Siege was the closest. Although the Black Widow 2.0 and Prism Hybrid are also starting to win me over. Especially the Prism Hybrid. Good god DAMN is that ball versatile AF. Just got a Game Breaker 4 Hybrid too, practiced with it today and shot 1680 across 8 games with it. Brilliant piece. I'm starting to enjoy hybrid stuff after years of being super sus about it.

My first ball was a kingpin special edition Gold, the ball was sitting on the rack at my local lanes and when Covid hit I was going to the lanes about twice a week and I’d pick it up to throw it and finally one week an employee walked up to me and told me it was his first ball and that I could have it

I have never owned a ball. Always used the ally balls. My problem It has been 50 to 60 years since I bowled last time. Except last night I started again. I have always thrown a straight ball and had some training with that. Now at 79 YO I still want to throw a straight ball. But NO one talks about the best ball for a straight ball. What do you think? I am between a rhino, storm tropical surge, hammer raw, and a ebonite fireball as my first ball but don't know which one I should purchase.
