Too many videos out there that are supposedly for the noobs, are so full of pro bowlers tech specs and over-use of the hot shot pro lingo that you get lost right away since you end up having no idea what they are talking about. I’ve been running the rhino for dry or late game and window 2.0 for early wet. My only issue with the rhino is it dies by drowning in oil after a couple weeks. The overstock isn’t strong enough to be a “good” ball. The hook is good when it’s fresh. But once it get soil soaked it’s trash. I’m looking for a better cover with similar forgiveness to replace my rhino.

closest to it would be the Roto Grip Hustle M-M or the Track Tundra Fire. There's lots of similar options in terms of core specs, but the cover durability/saturation of oil is better on those than on the rhino. Now, I will say, I hit my rhino with 2000 literally everytime I use it. That ball is amazing with fresh surface, and as it shines up, its actually transitions with the lane and I don't have to move much at all. Just something to consider moving forward.

@@bowlersparadise2255 yes it does. But I’m tired of having to surface/cover prep it every 2nd or 3rd time I bowl with it. That’s why I want to get away with it. The widow is great. 1 bath/surface prep at the beginning and end of the season is all its needs. Standard cleaning solution per night /wipe rag per shot treatment of course.

The Hustle M-M was good out of the box, but since knocking the shine off of it with a 3k CTD pad, it has been great! I may add a Gold Label, Stealth, or VE Blackout for a ball before the Hustle. There seems to be a gap between Duo time and Hustle time in my league

just got the M&M and shot 232, 219, 224 with it. Had to make a few adjustments but once I get some games on it the ball will be solid. My I also suggest the Summit. It's a strong ball but it works on all kinds of patterns.

But I'm not sure how I feel about its reaction on the fresh yet.. As you mentioned in this video the Teal Rhino looks more controllable, plus teal is one of my favorite colors 😅 Our winter league just started this week so I'm hoping my current arsenal along with skill of course I can end this leauge with a 180 avg.

Radical Spy or Storm Mix is pretty much all you need for 2 handed. In my experience anyways. Everything else will respond too much unless the league pattern has a lot of oil.

Primal Shock is working great as a second ball for me once I figured out where I needed to stand/look compared to my #1 ball (Infinite Physix @ 3000grit). The primal Shock is very interesting in that it is a sanded solid but acts more like a strong pearl.....it has a surprising amount of pop once it hits friction. The infinite Physix is pretty forward and smooth reacting so it allows me to play straighter for the first 2 games. Once it starts to lack enough angle into the pocket, the Primal Shock comes into play really well.

It's funny how the traditional thinking of solid, then pearl would actually be completely backwards for you, but I completely agree. Infinite is way better on fresh, and the primal is great in and after transition.

I’ve been enjoying my new GB4 hybrid recently. And I have been able to use it for the most part for all three games. I pulled out my Radical Intel Pearl this week, and threw a 248 for my first game. This is one of the best pieces I’ve ever thrown. I wish I would have gotten the solid when it was out.

Hey fella, one thing that I feel with your coaching background that you could tackle better than most would be different approaches to handling carry down. I bowl a 4 man league with 15 mins of practice so come the second game, anything right of 10 board down lane over hooked but then anything inside of that wouldn’t make it back up the hill

You either have to get outside of it with bigger angles through the fronts or just move completely inside of it. If those aren't on the table, the next best option is to actually loft the ball over the fronts a bit to keep as much rotational energy in it as possible for downlane reaction.

Getting outside with bigger angles usually causes a cliffed look, and most bowlers don't have the RPMs to be completely inside of it, working the hold. I always thought it was funny/stupid that most bowlers shame lofting when it's usually one of the better adjustments you can make.

I'm surprised they would recommend solid coverstock bowling balls. Typically with a lower ball speed, carry issues come from balls rolling out and deflecting a lot through pins. Also, Any recommendations are made with the caveat that no ball solves all carry issues. But considering all of that, the Roto Grip Duo, the Supra Rally and the iQ tour ruby are all pieces I would consider good possibilities. Duo is the strongest. If you'd want something even stronger, I'd look at the Track Stealth Pearl or the new Ebonite Fireball.

There’s a big difference between the two but it’s possible. Pretty rev rate dependent. If you’re above 375, you should be fine. If not, I’d close that gap a little. Sub the Hustle for a Duo or Zen Gold Label.

Man , to keep my question concise . Looking for a new ball. Started off with 14 pound rhino and didn’t like it . Made the switch to an old Columbia arch rival 15 and can average 175 with it , I like it. Picked up for a bargain a summit storm at 14 pounds , just too light for me. I’m getting more competitive and started in 2 casual leagues . I throw around 14.5 / 15 MPH and would assume 350 RPM or higher with 2 finger 1 arm style . You mentioned in another post to me The “ Duo” any others? The new crimson jackal and black venom seem appealing

I can't comment of the Crimson as I haven't thrown it, but with it being a top end ball, I probably would avoid it. Black Venom is a solid choice, Duo is good too. There's lot of good options to be honest, and with only having gone through a couple older pieces, you're going to like any ball that is brand new a lot more. New ball carry is definitely a real thing.

Closest thing to an original No Rules would be either a Gem or an Eternity Pi. If you’re throwing 12# though, I’d recommend looking into throwing a Motiv ball as they use the same cores across all their weights. The Pride Dynasty might be worth considering.

Hey Kevin. Thanks for the question. Assuming you want to stick in the Storm brands, and If your rev rate is below 350, I’d go with something like the Clone or the Eternity. If it’s above 350, I’d look at the iQ tour or the Duo. Hope that helps!!

As a 12.5 mph striker, I’ve been enjoying the Motiv Primal Shock. I’ve been bowling mid 200’s with it lately and have so much more power than I’m used to with my lower ball speed. I’m wondering whether to drill another Primal or try another from this list, like maybe the Hustle. Do you think I could get enough length on it for league play? 🤔

Unless you have a ball-drilling problem like I do, I almost never recommend that you drill the same ball twice. It's almost a sure fire way to be disappointed because it never lives up to your expectations. I would try the hustle personally as that is a piece that I have seen a ton of success with on league style conditions.

Lots of the asym releases from Brunswick are angle monsters right now. Track Paragon Pearl, Hammer 3D Offset Attack, Brunswick Quantum EVO Response would all be good choices. HK22 pearl + a differential over .050 is what you're looking for.

Hey Tony! Thanks for the question. I think the 2.0 hybrid was one of the best balls of 2023, however, I also think that there's better, more usable asyms on the market. The Widow line is an old school idea that works for many, but I think that there are just better options for those seeking the strong midlane roll you get from an asym ball.

Primal shock would fit as there's nothing in what you currently have that does what that piece does. There's no right "order" of transition though. Just throw the one that strikes. The best plan is no plan at all. It seems stupid, but the lanes will tell you which ball is the right one better than I ever could.

I"m an ancient bowler who enjoyed his 16 pound Johnny Petraglia LT-48 with 175 league average. With all of the lane and ball changes, what would be a comparable ball for today's active 70+ year young right-handed male bowler. I currently have a 13 pound storm gold urethane ball that I can't throw slow enough to make it break like Pete Weber did; when winning that PBA tournament. There's not going to be much of anything that will do what that LT-48 did back when it was new. The game is just so much different that you can't get that shape anymore. Teal Rhino Pro has been great for older bowlers with limited ball speed and rev rate.

Ben, now that folks have had a handful of weeks to settle onto their leagues, how has your league bag changed since the release of this video?

I'm actually not bowling any leagues, but this build is more of a general list. If I had to bowl on a house shot today, my top three for personal use currently are Teal Rhino Pro, VIP ExJ Sigma and the Roto Grip Clone.

I'm from the Netherlands. And bowl on tuesday night 4 games single handicap League. But not on House shot ever week it's a different sports oil pattern. My bag now has 4 balls (15lbs) 2 from 900 global "Eternity & Zen U" 1x Roto grip "Idol Cosmos" Brunswick "T-zone" for spares. Do you agree with these choices or would you say i need to make a change. My ball speed is arround 14 miles with medium rev. Thank you in advance.

Current arsenal is Motiv Green/Blue Thrill, and original HyRoad. 14-15 mph Senior bowler with 250-275 rev rate. Any addition recommendations?

I'd probably try to get something with some more differential. I'd look to something like the Roto Grip Duo, 900 Global XPonent, Motiv Venom Shock or the Hammer Envy Tour Pearl could all work well.

Picked up an Emerge right at the end of summer to go with my Altered Reality. There's definitely a difference in the back end reaction. Still working on getting 10 pins with it. Having to loft it quite a bit on those.

idk about this. I mean this is a nice list I suppose, but the Phaze 2 or Zen are LITERALLY the ONLY balls ANYONE needs for league lol. Even speed dominant/RPM deficient bowlers can succeed with those. Well maybe not the Zen although the Zen is nice when lanes break down, but definitely the Phaze 2. Only exception are super RPM dominant 2 handed bowlers like myself. For us, it's all about either spare balls with a core (Spy, SOME White Dots), or very weak thane stuff (Mix).

A beginner doesn’t need an arsenal. Just get a benchmark ball and a spare ball once you start throwing some revs

The one thing I'd like to see is an average bowler (160/170 avg) throw these balls. Someone with a 200+ avg can do a lot more with a ball.

I love showing up to my house shot league with my purple hammer urethane, I bowl good no one else does and my team mate is only just starting to bowl so he doesn’t care about the oil anyway easy wins

I started throwing a purple hammer last year and it has been amazing in league. I am a very high speed and high rev bowler and I was just struggling with some of the normal house shot balls. I do throw the 16 pound version which has more flare and doesn't cause as much carry down as the other weights. Still pisses off some of our opponents but it doesn't bother my team at all.
