Thanks for the video. Its very usefull for biginers. Many people think that push and chop are easy but not so, it's requires lot of commited training.

Thanks for the footwork part. Just from my experience:I think if you have a grippy rubber, the ball never rolls up the rubber. There is only one point of contact on a modern/fresh rubber. You can try it out: Throw a ball in the air and brush it with minimal contact and good speed...it will never roll over a fresh rubber. You say roll over, but in fact it is spin through brushing it with one contact point. . The old guys in my club play with old rubbers. Here the ball rolls over the rubber and gets lots of back spin... Often too much to force them to play topspin. Maybe you said it, but the contact point is quite important. I think it is at the end of the rubber, because there you have the longest way of the stroke so the speed of the racket is the highest...
@dublintabletennisclub3 жыл бұрын
Yeah you make a good point :) I was saying rolling it because it is the best way to understand for beginner level. I have noticed as a coach if you say brush the ball then they try to overthink and snap at it for that "brush" effect and it just looks horrible then ha Middle to long balls to defend is best to focus more on the follow through which then will give you more of a roll effect as you will use more of your forearm. However, yeah for short balls for a short return and low it is best to just brush the ball for the highest efficient quality. That type of control seems to always work best with more experienced players and not jump straight to it.

Very nice demonstration of Back hand and Fore hand PUSH stroke including the correct footwork, which is veey important. In fact we all know that one has to master the PUSH stroke.
@dublintabletennisclub4 ай бұрын
Yeah it is more push than chop tutorial in terms of quality, but overall it has all the exact same elements besides the contact / angle. You are completely correct on the footwork. Difference between a player and competitor!

Brilliant lessons, thanks so much. Could you explain us where is the best place on the rubber to hit a backhand and forehand chop, please?
@dublintabletennisclub2 жыл бұрын
Definitely for both are on rubber side closest to net. So kinda like 1/3 from edge of rubber which then helps the ball to brush across more surface of rubber and leave rubber from 2/3 or even almost using the full rubber. Sorry if confusing ha, easier to show than explain :)

Hi Eddy, I don’t know if it’s called something else in Dublin, but what you taught is usually called a “push”. Defensive “chopping” is completely different! Look up Chen Weixing or Ruwen Filus to see what most people refer to when discussing “chopping”. If you re-title your video How to PUSH, you might get more views.

Hi Steve, Thank you for your comment :) I will for sure look into that and review the title.

Thanks Eddy for all those videos, you explain it so basic & complete that they're really easy to understand. I mean the technique itself, and complete, which is what I was lacking from other videos & real life explanations (always missing a part or understanding the full work of the technique). Now, just time to practice :)

Coach, does tacky rubbers make it easier to chop back topspin? Does the tackiness slow down the incoming spin, therefore reducing the incoming spin.

Good video on the PUSH technique, however, you never did show a backhand or forward CHOP (standing further back from the table and using a full, chopping motion); great for returning top spin loops!
@dublintabletennisclub4 ай бұрын
Yeah after editing it has become a PUSH technique haha I should do a separate video for the chop yes because I have never done anything similar to that except this video :)

Good information but way to much wordiness. For example, after listening to video for 4 minutes, the only pertinent information was when standing at the right side of the table the feet are spread apart evenly even though the right foot is dominant. Okay video but could have been given in under 2 minutes with no loss of understanding of playing the shot.

Excuse me, when ever i try to do backhand chop , it always goes as side spin and not backspin .pls help
@dublintabletennisclub3 жыл бұрын
Yeah that is a common thing for everyone :) Especially when your own chop seems to move sideways and not where you want it to go right? Actually tomorrows video is about the tactical response of your opponents serve :) 1.) It just means your opponent has really good spin on the serve that even after a chop is done, it still spins sideways. Nothing too personal fault there. It also means that you need to practice more your sharpness of chop to create the actual backspin. So a bit more technical work to the technique must be done. 2.) If your short chops don't work then chop it with more faster speed response deep into the table to the persons backhand corner or where his elbow is. That way you cause them a lot of hard trouble to actually return it. Again, tomorrow there will be a tactical serve receive video coming out with where to place your chops on the table for easier chance to win points :) I do hope my comments helped and let me know your thoughts about it :)

Is that movement or position of the racket for all kind spin of serve/no spin, side spin, topspin, etc?, Thank you 🙏
@dublintabletennisclub2 жыл бұрын
The generic answer is yes. Movement is for sure 100% the same for all short balls and racket position at the table is as well. What is different is sometimes the angle of the racket which can assist you to deal with heavy / specific spins. Some spins are easier to return if you have the racket more diagonal angle (tip of racket facing more up) while a top spin ball is easier to attack or at least approach more flat. There are several different cases of angles you can use to ease and assist you :)

If u have time pls reply me coach if the player is at the middle not left side, the ball come to the short backhand side and for backhand push the right or the left foot should go forward to reach the ball. When the ball come like that I play like tennis volley footwork, right foot go first. Is it correct footwork? thanks 🙏
@dublintabletennisclub2 жыл бұрын
GREAT question :) This is the difference in the concept of Intermediate and Advance level as it's not so much about the technique consistency or quality (even though its a close second in terms of main difference), it's more about transition into the follow up shot which then creates the chance for you to dominate the rally within that moment. If you move your left foot (non dominant) into the position to get the reply back, then your left stranded and tangled between your feet for the next shot because their reply could be a fast deep ball back or away from your current position. Moving your right foot in even to the left of you helps you to OPEN your body when pulling the right leg back. Gives you a chance in ONE move to pull the leg back more so than before which opens your body to counter any long balls AND give you a better angle of position to FLICK any short balls coming to you. Basically gives you a chance to create the attack ahead of your opponent which means on probability chances that you will win the point even when your opponent served it. Hope this makes sense and helps! Stay in touch with further or new questions :)

Ok i suck at ping pong but all i have is a cheap plastic pattle is it still possible to chop and add spin?
@dublintabletennisclub4 ай бұрын
Uhh that is quite hard to be honest. You need "rubber" material to create friction and that is what creates the concept of spin. How much / how high of quality it depends on the arm movement of course. I can help you get a good budget racket if you want? Go on my site and fill out a 30sec quiz telling your style of play and I will show you the exact one that would work best for you :) eztabletennis.com

this is very basic and the way u push doesnt generate that high amount of backspin, for a real good backspin that u need to go more flat under the ball und even use a lil wrist so ur oponents attacks go into the net

It is yeah after the editing more of a push, but the fundamentals of a chop is the same in regards to the arm and footwork! I should do a proper chop tutorial :)
@KA-eu9sy10 ай бұрын
Push. This is called a push. Not chop. Chopping is very far from the table. A defensive chop.
@dublintabletennisclub9 ай бұрын
You're right it is more of a push due to the angle, but technique is the same as the chop. Chopping is a motion on how to receive serves and counter spin them and that is the traditional way of seeing them. What you're talking about isn't wrong, but it doesn't apply for serving. Rather to long shots as you said, but again it isn't as "normal" as it used to be.
