Good video! If your small engine doesn't work this is usually the problem. On many engines there is a little tiny rubber doughnut shaped seat that the float needle seats into. If you blow air into the fuel line connection it will fly out and you will never see it again. Also motor oil will degrade rubber parts. If you don't want the rubber to fall apart the next time you repair it you better use silicone grease on rubber.

This is a good video because even if you change the inline filter every year and drain the gas there's almost always water in the bowl. I never thought about oil on the bowl gasket, good tip.

This will be helpful ! Just yesterday I got a murry mower just like yours ! However I put a different engine on it I put a 16 hp Briggs on it I never had any problem out of the engine before but when I got it out we was doing wheelies and flipped it backwards and gas poured out of the carb I think that may have messed it up cause today we have had tons of trouble getting the carb back working right and it's leaking a ton .. I will try this

Great video noticed the container used to drain the old fuel so for anyone do be sure your container is glass,, metal or a fuel rated plastic ( gas can ) the one in this video looks to possibly be a grocery store juice container or similar most of these the gas will eat through so be aware and safe, peace
@metamech73838 жыл бұрын
I have yet to find any plastic containers that leak gasoline. Are you sure you didn't mean a grocery sack or ziplock bag??

I do that every time I have one apart, I usually check that first, it works even better if you have a fuel shut off. It's easy to do by yourself
@witheredfoxy13504 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Riding lawn mower been sitting for over a year.. had it running in 15 minutes..
@Fearlessfront12 жыл бұрын
the pin is the needle valve, that sits on the float, as the float bowl fills with gas, the float will "float" and push the needle valve into a hole, and stop the flow of fuel. youll need to take out the float, and reattache the needle valve to it, and carefully put the float back in. try not to let it hang too much, then the needle will fall out again
@Fearlessfront13 жыл бұрын
@TheRUSSELLBOY Ive done it before, it add more weight but it'll work. You might have to cut the hole bigger.

Very well done. Nice commentary and step by step. I have a Briggs motor that sat for a year plus. I have replaced the fuel filter, air filter, fuel line, battery, and oil. I also used Mechanic in a Bottle to clean the fuel system. Had issues with surging and then once I got the throttle set that went away. Now, it's always flooded and when it's turned off the engine wants to keep running! Any ideas?

@Fearlessfront yeah i figured it out...the spark was too weak. another questin? i recently got a lawnmower that sat in the peoples back yard for five years. after a few days of tinkering with it i got it to fire and run. the problem is,i changed the oil and now it won't even turn over. i checked all the swiches and everything works. i had the battery on the trickle charger overnight, so thats not it. i know i am asking a lot,but i would apreciate the advice.
@Fearlessfront11 жыл бұрын
no prob, but with this new ethanol they are putting in the gas, check your fuel lines too, they can flake apart and clog it again

sounds like that stuff deteriorated, I would clean the jet of the carb really good as well as all the ports. and try and find yourself a new floatbowl, that would be the best way to go.
@Fearlessfront12 жыл бұрын
@Tristan102100 I bet its either the key switch itself is dead, (happens a lot try spraying some wd-40 into it, sometimes it helps...) or make sure the mower deck engagement lever/switch if off, and the clutch switch. there is also a seat switch too. check or disconnect those first. Maybe re-wire the whole thing..(not that hard I have a "how to" video on it.) Also make sure you didnt disconnect or break any wires while doing the oil change. This is assuming it does nothing when u turn the key.

Hey i was riding my mower and it staled on me and i look under the hood and i did not see any thing thing i closed it and tried to start it but it would not and i looked again and i saw that it was leaking gas from the carberateur so i drainded the gas and let it cool off the motor over night but on saturday im going to see if i need a new one or just see if the pin got stuck or if its broken. Thanks for making this video i hope it will help me.

I'm cleaning the carburetor on a 50cc Chinese ATV and well its been going fine untill putting everything I've encountered 2 issues. 1. Float won't stay upright it will just flop straight down. 2. A Tiny jet or maybe a pin, has fallen out which I think might be connected to the either the needle valve or maybe its the pin that connect to the float (This is my first carb clean so im not sure If the problem is that or something else)
@rex4x413 жыл бұрын
@Fearlessfront that would blow ..... thanks for the video .

After wiping off as much as i could. I found out that the float bowl had 2 small holes in it, and the guy had used some sort of green cement glue to plug them. On the inside of the bowl, it looked like the gas was eating away at the cement and had plastered it every where... How bad do you think the damage is? we had it running on and off, but only on full throttle. but then it stopped... please tell me your opinion. thanks

@Tristan102100 I wish I was there to mess with it... does it have spark? try to squirt a lil fuel down the carb and see if it runs.. if it does, its a fuel problem, if not, check the spark.

i applaud you im way to ocd to clean a carb out side and still on the engine
@47485ksc11 жыл бұрын
Check the fuel cap. May not be venting. Remove fuel line at carb and drain into a clean coffee can for reuse (if gas is any good) With gas cap on, it should flow freely until the can is about full. If the cap is suspect, flow will start to taper off after a few minutes and stop. You've found the problem. If you don't want to go the fuel line removal, just operate mower until it starts to die. Quickly open gas cap. If engine runs again, it's the cap.
