How hair spray, mouse and sweat turns into this gunk, I have no idea, but I know how to fix it!
Tools Needed...
1. Safety pin: rstyle.me/cz-n/gs78jzszt6
2. Olivia Garden Brush cleaner (or you can use a comb): rstyle.me/cz-n/gs78irszt6
3. The cheapest X-Acto knife, “hobby” or “crafts” knife: rstyle.me/cz-n/gs78qeszt6
*Make sure it is a dull knife. You do not want the heavy duty X-Acto knife. You DO NOT want the “sharpest” knife. It will CUT your bristles.
Step 1: Brush your brush with a comb or the brush cleaner. Do this over a towel, trash can, toilet or go outside to avoid a mess in your home. Or just make a mess and then vacuum it up. I brushed my brush over a towel for about 4 minutes.
Step 2: Alternate your tiny tools. The safety pin loosens and breaks the grip of the gunk wrapping the bristles. The X-Acto knife will cut through the gunk. Use the brush cleaner every couple minutes to release anything you unstuck. This should take about 20 minutes if you regularly use the brush cleaner throughout. It will take longer if you don’t.
Step 3: Stick brush in a vase with warm soapy water. Stir it a bit and let sit for an hour. The brush will float, so put a tiny jar on it to weigh it down.
Step 4: Lay wet brush, bristles down on a towel to dry overnight. The next morning it will look new again!

I love these brushes & have several… BUT MOTHER OF Sally… Cleaning them is a Nightmare!! I spend so much time sitting & trying to pick the gunk out!!! TWEEZERS… MANICURE SCISSORS… 🙄🙄… One of mine even came with a brush to clean it… UGH!! Doesn’t help… I’m adding your tools to my plan of attack!!! THANK YOU SOOO MUCH…. ❣️❣️❣️

I was cleaning my brush from this lint, but some of the bristles came off. When the came off, there was dust underneath inside the brush.

Heres an easier and much faster hack no tools needed just dry toilet paper. Rub it back and forth on your brush and link residue adheres to the toilet paper fibers and quickly removes the lint. When its all gone simply rinse with water and shampoo scrubbing it with your fingers.

Hi Alina! I just tried your tip and the toilet paper didn't budge the residue tightly wrapped around each bristle. Thanks for the suggestion though! It might work for someone else. I am loving everyone's suggestions in the comments!
