Very good video. At least someone that cleans a revolver without going crazy. I have seen videos where people make it looks like a 5 hours job. You encouraged me to get a 617. 6 inches :-)

One of my favorite parts of owning revolvers is how simple they are to clean. I also just like the way they look, shoot and work. Thanks for the encouragement.

I have a 617 no dash Lew Horton model with combat grips six shooter. It has never been fired lol but I clean all of my other revolvers just like you. Ballistol is second to none in my opinion. It does wonders on wood stocks and wood presentation cases.

After going back and forth between 4 or 6 inch, I chose the 6". I received it earlier this week after a two week wait from the time my LGS ordered it. I've put around 250 rounds through it and it smoothing out very well with no issues. That being said, it's a pain in the ass to properly clean it, but that's .22 life!

Congratulations on your purchase. I love my Model 617 and so does everyone that shoots it. How is the weight of the 617 with a 6” barrel? Does it seem barrel heavy on the front holding it out with one arm? 250 rounds of 22 LR is dirty. By chance have you checked out the CCI clean ammo yet? I’ve heard good things about it running a bit cleaner.

@@FieldStrip357, about round number 7 or 8, I start getting a little shaky with one arm, but I don't shoot that style very often. The 250 round count was two different trips to the range, so I've cleaned it twice now. I've seen where S&W got a little sloppy with their quality control for a period of time with the 617, and I had my fingers crossed that I wouldn't have any issues. I have a boat load of vintage S&W revolvers, but I never got around to acquiring a .22 target revolver until now. I'm pleased with the performance and build quality of my 617. I'll keep my eye open for the clean burn ammo you mentioned. Thanks for your quick response!

The 4” barrel model is weighted nicely. One of my favorite revolvers. I might paint my front sight orange to make it a little easier to see.

How much did you pay for the gun?
@FieldStrip3578 ай бұрын
With a $75 mail in rebate going on it can be bought for about $850 right now. This revolver is built like a tank. It’s a real joy to shoot too. The 4” barrel makes the gun weighted perfectly IMHO. Hope this helps.
