diyautoschool WRONG! You remove the needle before you remove the fluid tip! High quality guns are built to precise tolerances and removing the fluid tip while the needle is in the gun will cause unnecessary ware on the needle.
@The762x39mm7 жыл бұрын
Very neat trick the carb cleaner! I must try that next time i have to clean my gun. On a side note, i like to depress the gun trigger before unscrewing the fluid tip so the needle doesnt make contact with the tip while unscrewing. Thankyou for another instructive video!

@@cesarconh895 >How come it still atomizes, sprays the same and produces a very nice paint job? It is the man behind the gun that matters, besides, in China, where your fluid needle comes from, the 7 year old finishes each needle the same way as it come off the machining process. You don’t want to make a 7 year old Chinese boy cry and loose his job? That is wrong! Also before Scotch Brite, they used steel wool, or did you know that?

just came in from painting white paint on one of my cars rim, would have been nice if you posted this yesterday haha, i just clean my gun with brake clean and acetone, if its really bad ill soak them in gasoline inside an old water bottle, but I'll definitely use carb cleaner next time. but i really cleaned my gun and even though im using cheap rustoleum paint i still strained it and my rim came out great.

Just found your channel and am enjoying watching your videos. If you want to know what chemicals are in a product, check the SDS (safety data sheet). Some variation between brands, but carburetor cleaner is mostly methanol with some acetone and toluene. Non-chlorinated brake cleaner is mostly acetone with a little bit of toluene.

I was painting the fenders for my truck before I put them on and noticed that after a couple minutes of spraying, the spray pattern dwindled to nothing but I had good pressure. Just wasn't getting any paint. I had cleaned my gun thoroughly BUT on my vent, there was a rubber hose. evidently paint had gotten into it and dried clogging up the vent. After painting for so long, it created a vacuum in the canister not allowing paint to go through. From THAT point on, I made sure to be sure the vent AND hose were clean and clear!!!!!
@diyautoschool7 жыл бұрын
YES-- the vent must be clean as well and I didn't even show that --- DAMIT! Thanks for adding that IMPORTANT Tech Tip in the conversation. Pete

I learned THAT the hard way! I don't know how long I screwed around trying to figure out WHY the paint quit flowing. The metal nipple was clear and clean but that damn vent hose was plugged with paint.

I was just spraying paint with a Sanborne siphon gun and went to clean it out for clear coat, now I have no flow. When I remove the cup and spray carb. cleaner in the pickup tube while holding the trigger down I get flow. I cleaned everything you showed including the hose on the cap. What causes that?

Is the carb thinnner the same as lacquer thinner? I suppose lacquer thinner would work for the entire cleaning process (asking because that's what I have at home right now - new at this but doing my homework).
@williamcharles94804 жыл бұрын
Pete, you never cease to amaze me. You're still using an "old school" siphon feed gun; is there a benefit to using this type of gun over the newer gravity feed type and is that siphon gun HVLP? Also I like the fact that you use the aerosol "Carb-Throttle Body" spray. You seem to have less liquid chemical to dispose of.
@dand39752 жыл бұрын
A old school gun like a Binks #7 sprays lot of volume paint at a high pressure like 60 psi. Lot of the paint is wasted as overspray, but it lays paint down fast. The old Binks #7 was the gun of choice on the 1970-1980s and ideal for single stage acrylic enamel paint, and high build laquor primer of the day. Better off using a modern gravity paint gun with base coat and clear paints to save on paint and chemicals, but if you already have a good old school spray gun replacing it is not justified for 1 or 2 paint projects.

Hey Pete for the inside could you use a flap disc? might help those hard to reach places. I prefer the carb cleaner over the laq thinner. But I'm not professional.

Carb Cleaner works great.. If your gun is really bad you can buy some Carb Cleaner in the gallon jug and dismantle your spray gun and put it in the cleaner for a few days and then take it out and clean it up with water and some detail brush's and it will be brand new again...

Great video Pete! I was wondering if you could give some advice on when you use seam sealer on the body? I hear the term used all the time, but no one has ever explained when and where you use it. Does it go on after primer, and before paint, or before primer? Does it go on every seam. If you could clarify when and where to use it, I think that would be a great help to me. Keep up the good work, and keep Minnie and the rest of the Clown Posse straight!

hey there about 2 years ago i painted my 76 E150 van last summer i left it out an where there rear tank was full of fuel it leaked some out around the filler neck an the gas ate the paint below the neck. i was wondering do i need to use a sealer in the area before i try to repaint the spot to keep the new paint from eating up the edges of the paint.

Anybody know what wrong with my air compressure it come up to 50 psi than stop. Than I have to shut it off then on pump again it will come to to 75 psi than stop again. I have to do three times for full air than use my spray gun and repeat. This is a craftman 150 psi air compressure. Bad circuit switch maybe anyclue? I have my air meter open all the way it still does the same.

Judging by the video, it doesn't look like you clean out your guns after each use. As a hobbyist, I clean out my airbrushes after every use - and even break them down while doing it, before the paint dries. At that point, it's even more of a pain in the ass to clean with dried and cured paint. Is there a reason why you don't clean your gun just after use?
@Drewster107 жыл бұрын
GalaxyStranger01 often just back pressuring will be sufficient. Pete is doing what I do and that's like a spring clean after so many uses or a dark colour usage.

I noted the sloppy exterior on the siphon cup too. My brother painted yachts for over 30 years and his guns were always a mess on the outside. However, he made sure that his guns were in mint condition inside where it counts. I prefer shinny clean parts inside and out and got on my younger brother's case about tall the time...the bottom line, was his finish work was always impeccable. FWIW :)

Cork gasket are in the Binks gun rebuild package plus the the 3 different sized needle & fluid tip. Never saw any problems because it is not “Viton” or rubber. Cork is the packing gland behind the cone shaped nut. Also, each Binks kit comes with instructions and suggestions for cleaning products. It is the non-chlorinated products that now contain xylene and hard on everything except air as it is quick to evaporate.
