Thanks for making this video. To let you and the world know just what an exciting life I lead, I will be cleaning my Wind Machine on Christmas Day! It's been a great fan here at my Florida winter home. I sometimes wonder just how many revolutions it would do on low speed for say a 12 hour day? Thanks again. I will use a regular Philips screwdriver. I would be someone who would screw it the wrong way with the power unit.

Also it would be a good idea to remove the blades and unscrew the motor from the housing so you can brush dust off since the dust clogging up the motor vent is the common cause of those to suddenly stop working.

Just use a pressure washer. Spray it down with ammonia. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes and pressure wash it. Uses a leaf blower on the motor and let it set for outside in warm weather for about 2-5 hours.

Blades are too grimy to just wipe off. How can I take off blades to soak and wash? How can I wash the back plate without wetting the electrical stuff? Thanks for the video
@AroundTheHome12 жыл бұрын
@NicNacAttack thanks for your question. Though, this is why I stopped the video here. Now, if I remember right you can actually just pull the blade off. Though I kind of think there was a screw holding it in place. Now, as far as the back plate goes, you would have to remove all the electrical if you wanted to wash it. That's why I thought that this would be a good place to stop for most viewers. It gives you enough access to take a cleaning wipe or wash cloth and wipe down the blade, and is still pretty simple to get to this point. I might have to make a complete tear down video in the future.
@nicnothingnice2 жыл бұрын
@@AroundTheHome1 Thanks for your quick response! I just finished cleaning them...most blades do pull off after unscrewing the part that holds it in place. They screw opposite of what you would expect. It's not lefty loosey righty tighty...the round floor fan however had an electrical connection to the fan switch with wires and stuff that I didn't mess with. I vacuumed the back plate with the brush tool and got most of the dust. The others I rinsed in the tub just fine. Thanks again for the video. I've been putting this off for too long!

Thanks for video but how do you get fan blade off?
@armandotesta2142 Жыл бұрын
If you are wondering how to take the rest of it apart. The blade just comes off, no real trick, use a screw driver to pry it off. Then use a number 2 Phillips head to remove the motor from the plastic. Then pry off the gear speed cap (don’t know the proper name, the thing in the center back of the fan that you use to turn it on and change speeds). Then with a flathead screwdriver pry of the gear shifter from the plastic and pull the cable through. Brush the motor with a dry old toothbrush if you see it dirty.

Thanks for sharing this video. What is the exact Philips screwdriver(length and size) that can be used to open and get to the blades of the fan?
@AroundTheHome12 жыл бұрын
I used a very standard #2 Philips screwdriver for the whole project. The most common size worked just fine. I hope that helps. And I don't show it, but I believe that this fan blade just pulled off. I can't remember if there was a locking screw or not. I know that part doesn't help much. I stopped where I did on the video since you can easily reach the blades to wipe down with a wash cloth / sponge. I felt if I went further I should then take off the motor and switch / wiring from the back panel as well and decided that was too much for the target audience of this video.

My style of this fan has the screws at the top ONLY. Then you are suppose to lift the face o the screen up and the front is SUPPOSED to come up BUT it is bolted in at the bottom of the fan with NO SCREWS AT ALL so you are only able to pull the front face forward but UNABLE to remove the whole front face. Strangest thing ever. It is a Lasko 20 Wind tunnel fan. Really weird.

@AroundTheHome12 жыл бұрын
You know, I thought about that and didn't know if that would put off too many people as being too complicated. Even though you can wipe them down here easily enough. I didn't see the reason to take it off, because why stop there when you can then take the motor off and wire harness so that you can drop the outer fan cages and blade in the bath or hose it off. So I stopped here because as I was keeping it simple it seemed like the best place to stop. Though, you can just pull the blade off of the motor shaft from here. And then press it back on when you are done. But like I said, I also was not planning on removing the motor so it seemed like the best place to just stop.
