I've generally just used windex with a rag when I've wanted to clean off micarta or soap & water with an old toothbrush. I usually just let my hand oils do their thing unless it starts to get gross though.

After the soap and water cleaning I let them dry then I spray with silicone boot water repellent. Once dry it retains the lighter shade it regained after washing. I think this process refreshes the micarta texture,which is a bonus effect.

I’ll have to try that sometime

If your gonna spend the good money of nice things it’s always the best thing to regularly clean and maintain it, helps resale value and like you said to keep it in great shape.

I just use Frog Lube cleaner/degreaser, followed by FL Paste, (to provide a protective layer and a fresh base color). It’s great stuff, and works quite well. I always fully disassemble, clean, and treat my folding knives with FL products as soon as I receive em. It provides very good corrosion protection, lubrication, and ease of future maintenance; in a non-toxic, food safe product. No, they’re not paying me, btw. 😁

It’s one of those things the more you’re around knives the more confident you get until eventually you get cut again.

I like the lighter tones on most micartas & the factories send some knives drenched in oil

I prefer the darker and shiny color. My kizer militaw looks great (to me anyway) when wet with alcohol but once dry it looks dull and dirty
@blugamers8891 Жыл бұрын
If it's important for you not to use water you should use higher percentage alcohol because if it's 70% alcohol the other 30% is usually water
@BrandonGavin_EDC2 жыл бұрын
Alcohol wipes work for me on micarta, all ya need. Maybe some soap and water if it gets really bad.

Soap and water is a whole affair

Not true, for motor oil, any kind of pen ink, alot of shop/garage dirt and gunk and and alot of lubricants/other chemicals...none of that will simppy come up with alcohol pads or 91% ISO alcohol. Alot of chemicals penetrate into the micarta and refuse to come out. I have plenty of photos to prove this, as well as plenty of people already know this in the industry. But sure, keep spreading crap like, " i jUsT use ISO to cLeAn my mIcArTA"! Not everything is so black and white.
@allthingsknives2 жыл бұрын
@@robertcrenshaw8790 easy there tiger i say in the video that this is what I do, this doesn’t mean it will apply to you, soap and water is a great option, so is simple green, and as for the chemicals try goof off the acetone should help remove those pesky industrial chemicals

The easiest way is to just leave the knife in your pants pocket when washing clothes. No need to run it through the dryer though.

I put alcohol on a rag and used it to clean my micarta since I didn't have any alcohol wipes. I didn't know super lube was a mineral oil mine says it is synthetic with ptfe.
@allthingsknives Жыл бұрын
I watched through to make sure I knew what you were referring to and the comment I made was about mineral spirits and those are present in the less viscous lubes like tough glide. Thicker oils like super lube don’t use them as a solvent. Super lube is a synthetic like you say

Dude I’m telling you. I have the denim Micarta. That will absorb any type of fluid and the scales will change shape, weaken and warp. I’ve had mine for about 3 weeks and now my liners squeak against the scales and they flex badly

So its a lot better to not do anything to the scales?
@roscomcfarland204 Жыл бұрын
@@isvaraov I’d say use something that isn’t oil or water based. Some kind of solvent
