@@MannixGarage I haven't ordered my Brasso yet for the Bakelite piece. But I've got some Nevr-Dull coming this week. Have you tried that stuff? Any opinion?

Your pronunciation is spot-on. Bakelite is a thermosetting plastic, which means that once initially moulded, it cannot be heated again into a fluid plastic state. It this is attempted it will simply disintegrate. The more common thermoplastics are quite different from thermosetting plastics: they can be reheated and remoulded time and time again within limits.

I have almost the same model 300 series dial telephone with a magneto in my collection. Mine doesn't have the button on top though. They are indeed from around the turn of the 1960's. I think this type with the dial and magneto were only manufactured by British Ericsson, but I could be wrong. If you look at the underside, there should be a 3 digit code starting with a letter followed by two numbers. The letter signifies what company manufactured it (E for Ericsson) and the two digits are the year of manufacture, ie E60 = by British Ericsson in 1960.

Hi there good to hear from you. I love these old phones, and just watched your video on the PMG 400 series! I will be honest I don't know much of the history of these phones and really should do a video and see if I can find out some local knowledge about them, however I think these were assembled in NZ just from parts from the UK, and as you say British Ericsson my guess is they were shipped in parts and assembled here I think due to govt tariffs. Taking a look at the bottom of the phone, it has N2122A24 and H1175, quick google search www.britishtelephones.com/ericsson/ericaus.htm and look at H1175 on the chart and you are bang on 300 series with magneto. I have this phone in the garage and similar phone in the house, and a wall mounted same era phone in the garage also, all working as an intercom, very cool phones. I will do a video on them one day and hopefully get some more history on them. I also have a bank of old telephone Eveready batteries x2 (not used past used by date) but still cool bit of history to look at. Take care 🙂📞

When using a polish small circles work better with liberal amounts of polish.

My chemistry professor in Berlin pronounced as you do, I've heard both pronunciations in the US. I"m guessing the three syllables are correct, but you're never going to get everyone on one page.

Thanks Ethel. Yeah I agree three syllables is the correct way and that's how I have always pronounced. I do hear both pronunciations in NZ too, however I hear more people refer to it as Bay-Ka-Lyte. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🙂
