For mirrorless cameras with IBIS, the camera should be turned on before using anything on the sensor to assure the sensor is locked. Otherwise the IBIS mechanisms can be damaged. I can't imagine using a lens pen on the sensor, but your mileage may vary. If the lens pen has anything in it, it can scratch the sensor. Use a dedicated lens brush, sold as such by sensor cleaning kit vendors and charge it with static by blowing it with a blower, or use a wet cleaning solution and specialty swabs for the size of the sensor. Lens pens are for lenses. Honestly, I'd consider redoing this video to make sure these points are emphasized.

@NeverTalkToCops1 Жыл бұрын
Tapping the sensor with lens pen may, or may not, remove particles. The particle would have to be statically charged in opposite polarity to the tip of the lens pens. Use a new lens pen only. A gel stick designed for sensor cleaning is worth it, but you may have to follow with "wet" cleaning of the sensor. You may have to go several rounds to remove enough debris, with each iteration being a potential opportunity to damage the sensor.

awesome video. thank you. when using the self cleaning shutter built in, should the cap @ the end be off or on. i noticed in your video, i think after the demonstration, you turned the camera around & the cap was still on unless i missed something as i was listening to you. the reason i asked this is because if the cap is on, i would think the dust would not shake off but shake into small spaces into the camera. if i do use the shutter sensor cleaning, maybe point the camera down without the cap on & do it that way & i also was thinking, turn off the lights because i notice dust is not as bad as there is no light to gather as much dust. i know that sounds odd. as for the pen you showed, when cleaning the sensor, what about a fingerprint or fingerprints. how do you use the pen to get rid of it? suggestions please as you sound knowledgeable

Some people travel a lot and it's a way to conceal the type of camera it is making it look more "generic" so it's less likely to get stolen, at least that's one of the reasons I've heard, I've also seen street photographers do that to be more "stealthy".

Did you know cheap lense pens leave black residue on your hands ? Try it out yourself. Rather not clean my lenses nor sensors with them. Use sensor swabs and sensor cleaning solutions for sensors it's what the camera companies use. For lenses cotton bud with rubbing alcohol mixed with water for 1st clean. Rub the tip in circular motions the centre then work outwards. Then do the same with mineral water.
@elcapitan0084 жыл бұрын
I don't think you understand what lenspens are for and how they work. Lenspens have two sides, a regular soft bristle brush side and the lens cleaner side. The regular brush side is just a soft brush for clearing large residue off of the lens, the other side has a cap on it because the cap contains carbon dust which is what is used to actually remove things from the surface of the lens. That black "residue" is the carbon coming off and it means you may not be brushing your lens correctly or that you need to use the regular brush after.
@zacharypump59103 жыл бұрын
@@elcapitan008 but its called a lens pen not a sensor pen. I have a feeling you don’t want carbon particles anywhere inside the cavity of a camera body. I can’t believe he didn’t mention sensor swabs, the industry standard way of doing this
@elcapitan0083 жыл бұрын
@@zacharypump5910 Literally nothing I said in the previous comment contradicts that. John made it seem like lower cost lens pens are flaking off some unknown substance that is a sign of them being low quality. The point is that if you know what a lens-pen actually is then you would know what that substance is and why its there. If you followed what John said you may buy an expensive lens pen and then use it on a sensor and leave carbon dust in the sensor because you think that the "residue" isn't there for more expensive ones.
@zacharypump59103 жыл бұрын
@@elcapitan008 understood. I’m just going to augment your comment and simply say (for anyone else who might read this comment stream): Don’t use a lens pen of any kind on a sensor, the video is straight up bad advice in that regard.
