That gear must've been pre-prepped props. Kind of like those pre-cooked casseroles on those cooking shows when they open the oven on the set kitchen, except no ooo's & ahhh's. Seriously, there's a lotta love in your vids dude: changing camera angles, good cuts, always sufficiently lit, etc. We're in So. Cal. so what I like to do is get out the power washer, load up the soap reservoir with some of that oxygenated detergent, and blast that stank into my neighbors yard. Then just leave the stuff to dry on the lawn.

I think the best thing to do is to go to the nearest laundromat, haul all of your gear there (except skates and helmet), and wash it all there. Laundromats have huge machines that can take the whole kit at once. It costs a little more money to do it but you will get a very thorough and consistent wash I have found. This is better for the people who don't have the best washing machines and/or are afraid to damage them.

To Clean my Helmet I take off the Basket and give the helmet a quick soak in some warm water with baby shampoo. Then give it a rinse and let it dry. The Baby Shampoo ensures that any residue left over wont burn your eyes next time you sweat up.Not sure if that helps anyone but it works great for me and my son.

I'm new to hockey, as is my son. But, I got a tip from my police officer brother-in-law: he sprays the inside of his vest with an anti-bacterial Lysol and air drys. After every skate - and yes we're tired - we lightly spray/spritz the inside of all gear, give a quick wipe with a towel, and hang dry in the garage (we live in So Cal, so it's dry in there, plus, we have little humidity in our region). No smell......and we don't put our nose to our jock to find out, either. hahaha
@SchweitzerScott8 жыл бұрын
I am not a salesperson for this company but check out "Pure Green 24". Its similiar to Lysol but purely organic, and will be less irritating on your skin. I used to use lysol too and would once in a while get some skin irritation if my bare skin touched it. I switched to this stuff with the same result and no irritation, following just about the same process as you outlined above. You can get it cheap on amazon for a big bottle

I cant think of the name of the detergent I was given but it was a minty scented spray/disenfenctant that I got from a sports store, you would spray on all your gear, just like this oxy stuff, and then stick it in the dishwasher (pants, shoulder pads, shin pads, elbow pads and gloves) and run it on a normal cycle without the drying cycle obviously, then take it out and let it air dry. I did this twice a season for decades and it has never failed me. Soft stuff would go in the washer weekly....I didnt have to wash equipment often in my glory days since teams gave us most of the stuff yearly but now that im washed up and in the mens rec leagues I wash my gear in my dishwasher once or twice a year...cans and socks and jerseys get washed weekly for me in my home front loader. I made a rack from 2" pvc pipes with holes drilled in them and it connects to my furnace vent and I always spread my gear out and dry it after every ice time though......that makes a big difference on longevity of your gear.

I play year round and my equipment barely smells. I live in an apartment so I dont have a ton of space and also do not want my bag to be stinking up the whole place. I wear underarmor underneath when I play to minimize sweat both on my body and equipment. Also, when I get home I immediately take out the equipment and lay it on the floor (If you have a fan of some sort, put the fan on the equipment), and spray it with "Pure Green 24" (google it) its an organic mix that can be bought right on amazon which kills bacteria that causes staph infections and other things without irritating your skin like a household disinfectant might. After a few hours or less it dries out and barely has an odor. Most of the odor in hockey equipment comes from bacteria that forms from the moisture in the bag. The combination of eliminating that odor + spraying anti-bacteria spray on the equipment and inside of the bag is a quick and simple way to keep the gear fresh without washing it every 3 months. I also religiously wash my underarmor / hockey socks / Jersey (Sometimes even shell) after each use even if I run down and put 5 pieces of gear in the wash. Obviously its best if you have 2-3 sets of everything to make it easier and a bit more cost efficient on the washing process.

hang up yer stuff after training. I use a simple clothes rack and a plastic bucket for my skates. when i wash my gear i use liquid detergent for gentle garments (like woolite or similar) on a warm cyckle. Buy a can or 2 of fresh frogger spray it on all your equipment and the inside of your bag zip up the bag and leave it over night with all your equipment in it then in the morning put your equipment in the washer I do this every season and it honestly works the reason is the bacteria in your sweat grows till finally everything smells fresh frogger kills all the bacteria(source of the smell) and the washer gets rid of any dirt or grime and the stink in the equipment

If your season is over, take your gear and throw it all into the freezer. I know it sounds stupid but this way, theres no way bacteria is going to build, because of the freezing temperature. Spray anti-bacterial spray after every use and hang to dry. Use your bag only to transport gear to and from the rink. That’s it! I’ve never had to do anything else. I do take it every year or two to a Sports cleaner. Never through your gear in the washer machine (jerseys/socks, etc are fine). I’m not worried about the gear, you’ll do damage to the washer machine. They aren’t designed for this stuff.
@AL41406 жыл бұрын
If you don’t agree with me at least go use a laundromat. The machines there are much tougher than a home set up. If you own your own you’ll understand what I’m talking about because you know what they cost. If you don’t, at least show some respect to the people who does own the machines (your parents or landlords).

Latif no they are polyester. Tron and CCM brand. I always wash everything on cold, with a mild detergent and have never had issues. We have a front loading washing machine if that makes a difference? But if yours is a top loader you can just wrap the Jersey in a towel or cotton T-shirt.

@jver47227 жыл бұрын
I have to be honest, I really only pay attention to whether a detergent has bleach in it or not. Other than that I just use whatever we have at home. Right now it's arm & hammer brand detergent. I check he labels of new clothes/gear for washing instructions when I first get them and then never think about it again. My Tron jersey for example says "100% polyester, wash inside out, wash with like colours, machine wash cold, do not bleach, tumble dry low, low iron, do not dry clean. So I just throw it in the wash with other clothes, add the detergent we have that doesn't contain bleach, put it on cold, and get'er goin. I don't throw my stuff in the dryer. I always hang it up to dry. That's it. I'm sorry I can't be of more help.
