Wanted to tell you that you did an outstanding job explaining everything. But something everyone misses is that you cannot cover the fuel vents on top of carb. That's why the bottom of the air cleaner base is raised up in the center. By experience. Keep up the gd work. Any mods on the carb let me know. Thanks

You remind me of me when I worked on lawn mowers as a kid. I started working on them when I was 11years old. I got them running good then tore them apart and painted everything nuts and bolts and all. Then I put it all back together all in one day cuz I couldn't wait. It's fun isn't it? Keep up the good work.

Good,job there shorty , just be conscious on how you dispose of the fuel onto the ground..put in a container and dispose of it properly. That is a serous fine in certain states ..

Thanks for the video. Just some advice: gasoline will get absorbed through your skin so it's best to wear gloves to avoid abundant hydrocarbons getting into your blood and increasing your cancer risk.
@mechanicalking5 жыл бұрын
Thanks and I never thought of that. I'll work on it, I'm picky about gloves but its a good idea

Won't gas melt most rubber gloves? I do not recommend cleaning with gas not sure if gas was being used here or kerosene. My dad retired firefighter and saw lots of people severely burned by cleaning with gas. Having said that what's the best thing to clean a carb with other than kerosene and that will clean the gaskets as well without damaging them?

"just dump the gas on the ground instead of in the pan you already have gas in" time for a work bench.

"Wing nuts" I repaired a cable on a Toro Recycler where the blade brake cable broke. I pulled out the actual cable and measured leaving the end connected in the spring with some cable coming out so I didn't have to disassemble so much and was able cable clamp to that end of the cable since wasn't worn. Then I used some 3M Silicone Paste in the metal cable cover/sheath and fed the cable in, making sure to lube real well to prevent future corrosion and water infiltration. After feeding through I didn't have the cast metal end on the brake level and just wrapped around the connection point and tied off at first... then later cable clamped. Been working great since. Was only $4.48 total and some time for 6ft of the "wire rope 1/16" cable" and 1/8" stainless cable clamp to repair (I wound up finding another cable clamp and clamped the lever last time I mowed just in case the cable comes untied and end isn't hanging out): facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=3147069908688123&set=a.1586822128046250&type=3 Actually, today I realized I might have to do the same type repair on the Poulan Pro 18HP 42" that I just got the 31H777 running today. I still need to work on... though the mower deck blades aren't engaging so looks like the cable is loose. Will trace out tomorrow and see if a connection under the gas tank or maybe on the deck clutch... though didn't notice. Figure the Tractor Supply 1/16" cable will be more cost effective with stainless cable clamps. Thanks for sharing this as I have a 422707 and 402707 I'm about to start working on, so reading and watching into. Will be my Murray Lawn Chief "lawn tractor" upgrade in from "riding lawn mowers" project. :-|)

Hey Bud, I have the same engine in my craftsman mower.. have you ever had a leaky needle and seat in the carburetor? Which leaked gas in the crank case and mix with the oil.. that’s my problem..it was a new carburetor so it’s going back..
@mechanicalking5 жыл бұрын
Yes, but somtimes the float gets stuck in the carburator on mine. I just pull the top off. These carburators HATE being emptied. This happens literary every time it runs runs out of gas. Also, if your gas tank is above the carb on yours, be sure to check the oil level because I had a 12hp throw a connecting rod because of gas in the oil!
@mechanicalking5 жыл бұрын
Is your tank above the carb?
@fanman19815 жыл бұрын
mechanical king my gas tank is under the seat..seems like mine acted up when I hit something and bent the mower blade..after I changed blades white smoke and oil geysers out of breather tube..thought I blew head gaskets replaced but didn’t have to.. I’m thinking there making some knock off junky replacement carburetors..hopefully I’ll get this 20yr old mower going again.

The pin you keep talking about is a needle that is your needle & seat. You can call it want you want but a parts shop won't know what your talking about.

kevin vt terminology goes a long way. Educate yourself. Know the difference between a bolt and nut. A1/4-20 bolt is not described by the head size. (7/16). But I do admire your efforts to jump in. Don’t be afraid. Cautious maybe but not afraid.

The Jet that you unscrewed from the side of the Nikki 6 bowl, is the MAIN JET. That plug area on the bowl (the bolt) originally contained a Secondary Jet.
@mechanicalking6 жыл бұрын
I dont know about the secondary jet being the drain plug... but thanks for your comment!
@JeffreyStrader6 жыл бұрын
I do......That bolt is the access port for the Main Jet. It's not advisable to use it as the Bowl Drain. You will end up destroying the Aluminum Washer, causing you to have to purchase another. The carb you show in your video is the OEM modified version of many others before it. The factory keeps modifying the carb...Good video young man. Keep up the good work.
