The best video ive seen about rebuilding a briggs twin carburetor, not too long and easy to follow. Learned why my fuel pump was leaking

You answered my question! My 18hp Briggs has a remote fuel pump on the firewall, instead of on the carb. It just looks weird like it's missing something IMO... Thanks for the video

Thanks Dave, ordered repair kit for my pump had same springs. When I took it apart two small springs were not in there. Also the gasket was like yours. 🤬 glad I found your video! Surged constantly after the last so called small engine tech rebuilt it. He said the jets needed replacement. BS He is no longer in business. Great video

I have a 19.5 HP Briggs & Stratton. What's interesting is your pointing out that someone had messed with pump and put it together wrong. But when I opened mine up to fix it, it was set up exactly the same way, FROM THE FACTORY apparently because no one had ever been inside that lawn mower. So whoever put it together from the factory did it back assward. Apparently mine wasn't the only one. What else is interesting if you watch other videos they will have you putting it back together the way it came out which apparently is backwards.

When I have a dropsie day, I usually take a break and regroup. I get frustrated then it all goes to hell in a hand basket lol. That's a SUPER deal on that trade. If that's a good Vanguard, it's the king of the hill as far as I'm concerned for the newer Twins. Happy Thanksgiving my good Friend! Zip~

ZippoVarga Thanks Zip I know the guy really well that I got the vanguard from he assured me that it's good but as soon as I get the starter on the opposed and get it running then I'll put the vanguard on the stand and fire it up. STAY TUNED. See ya buddy

I love those motors. The last guy just left evidence of what he did. OK Dave I get the droppsy's all the time. I blame it on being left handed with using right handed tools. That carb looks just a tad different than the 18HP ones. Nice swap for the V Twin. I have a telescoping magnet. Helps with the dropsy's. Looking forward to the next one.

Us lefties have to band together against the left minded! lol Telescoping magnets are my friend! I love these boxer opposed twins. Almost indestructible when properly maintained. I much prefer the satellite fuel pump over the carb mounted ones my self. More reliable than the problematic ones. They can easily be bypassed. Just have to scavenge the vacuum from a boss that's on all of the carbs by drilling, tapping and putting a barbed fitting in place, then just putting the old pump together without the check flap on the gasket so the fuel flows. The three Boxers I have (horizontal shaft) are brutes. But one has a pretty pronounced knock I need to tend to. The engine on Traitor I've had in 4 tractors and have owned for 15 years. Cheers Bruce! Sean~

@@@davessmallenginerevival2847 ...Dave, did you make a video showing the engine startup? If you did, point me to it, give me the link. BTW, nice job, no video is perfect, good technical information. I just picked up the same engine by chance and troubleshooted the problems (rats nest under cowl, bad starter, which is why it was parked to begin with, dead spark plugs, clean filthy carb bowl before I added fuel), so this was very helpful. Keep it up.

Dave, I believe you assembled it wrong. on the cover side you put the rubber piece on first but the cork gasket should have been first on the inside of the cover. From what I have seen on several other video's of the same fuel pump.

Is there a video of how to replace old with new carburetor/fuel pump combo?
@tonis2u2 жыл бұрын
tks Dave, currently working on a 1990 8hp I/C B&S running an MTD 31 ton splitter. The pump replacement that starts at 7:40 is right on. this freakin pump is more complicated than a heart valve, lol., the 'other notch' is the breather hose, the pump on my splitter is a plastic standalone unit that's screwed to the sheet meatal housing , pretty ez on a workbench compared to the craftsman in the vid. The spring (s) orientation is crucial. What size fuel line are you using? tks again you nailed it.

My mower runs fine but when I engage the mower deck the motor stops like it's running out of gas. I disengage the mower deck and it re- starts and runs again. Have you ever heard of this happening?
@davessmallenginerevival28473 жыл бұрын
You either have something like a lot of grass build-up stopping the blades from turning or you have a bad safety switch. You'll have to find out witch one it is and replace it

Well since everyone else is telling you good video, I'm going to be the honest one and let you know what it would have taken to make it a phenomenal video. Focus on proper assembly. Not the incorrect major in which it came in. No one wants to know the wrong info, only three proper and correct info. Respectfully

For the first 2:20 it's just babbling so skip to their. At that point he says the cover cork / rubber gaskets are reversed. Online diagrams I have found disagree. After 28 mins. of this video I still don't have an answer.

Don't be so sensitive Davie. Maybe you can learn from constructive criticism rather than lashing out in anger. I did not "Criticize everything" as you said. I pointed out what looks like a mistake according to what others are showing me. If you can't stand that you should leave the camera off.

Mike M by the way the gaskets were wrong. If I had them wrong it wouldn't have ran. I probably didn't explain it well. I'm still learning how to make videos it's not as easy as you think but you wouldn't know that would ya MIKIE

Dave Ackerman 1967: I checked several other video's and diagrams and you are either wrong or you explain things poorly. Check on that and deal with it. You keep making ignorant assumptions about me because I questioned a part of your video. Notice I didn't downthumb it because I know you took the time to make it and upload it. As I said, don't make video's if you can't handle a little critique.
