How to clean paper pick up rollers on Canon Printer and Fix Paper Feed Problem

If your printer is having a hard time picking up paper from bottom or rear tray, the solution is usually very simple. You just need to clean the rollers. No need to replace. Also, check for any foreign objects in the printer. That happens a lot in the rear tray area. A staple or a tack nail can fall in there.

Tried this on a really old MG5750 that just wouldn't take up paper even after cleaning the uptake roller. So I figured if the rollers are worn (they looked worn) if I could get some more life out of them before replacing them. So I slipped the 2 rubber rollers off the white plastic roller hubs and wrapped a 2" long narrow strip of sellotape around each plastic hub to increase its diameter by a tiny amount. Then I slipped the rubber rollers (they're more like sleeves really) back on to the plastic hubs and lo and behold it starting picking up paper just fine! The nozzles are still blocked even after 1x deep clean and 3x normal cleans but that's a different issue! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Thank you so much for this video! I have the MX922 and I could not get the top tray to grab photo sheets. I took out both trays and like you said used an alcohol wipe on both sets of rollers and Voila! it grabs and prints on 4X6 / 5X7 papers again! I was going to buy a new printer. You just saved me $200 :)

I just fount this video. My advice is NOT to clean roller with alcohol. Ruber and alcohol does not got together. Rubber gets hard and you rouind your roller. Use simple wather + shampoo to clean them or buy special rubber roller cleaner. Talking from years of experience.

You do not need to remove ink to fix paper pick up problem, but if you do, no the ink cartridge shouldn't leak.

not gonna believe what i did. I sprayed MAF sensor cleaner to the rollers and had some double sided tape going over it. It woked.. LOL

I’ll bet that doesn’t work three month later! MAF cleaner will attack any carbon based substance. Water is best.
