How, I had no idea you could reuse the parts all day without washing them between uses! The aspect of pumping that I dreaded the most was all of the washing of the parts in between sessions. This will definitely help me pump more often, thank you!!

thank for this video, it is very helpful for us as a new parents and didn't know how to clean and storage the pump parts after boiled, thanks a lot.

I am an RN and an IBCLC, and I cannot recommend the practice of allowing breast pump parts to sit un-washed in the refrigerator. The combination of sugars in the milk and skin contaminants introduced is a set-up for bacterial or yeast growth. I have not seen any studies done that support this practice is safe, and you are taking risk by violating sound principles of infection control by only washing pump parts once a day. The rest of the video is helpful in demonstrating how to wash and then sterilize pump parts once daily for the healthy, full term baby. If your baby was born prematurely, follow your NICU guidelines for cleaning and sterilizing pump parts, which is usually to both clean and sterilize parts after each use due to the higher risk of infection for these little ones.

How is it different from letting a bottle of milk sit in the fridge for a day?
@heatherlaurenRN Жыл бұрын
If done correctly, the milk sitting in the fridge should be in a sterilized bottle. And that’s the difference. You need to sterilize the equipment, not doing so and just leaving it in the fridge Increases risk serious infections from organisms in the environment that make their way onto the bottles.
@MiVidaBellisima10 ай бұрын
Yeah the cdc doesn’t recommend the fridge hack so it’s so important to clarify at the very least that it’s not worth the risk with a premature or sick baby.
@portcitysfynest318Ай бұрын
How is it different than nursing? You don’t wash your breast after nursing. There is nothing but skin and warmth which is more susceptible to yeast. Common sense should tell you not to use this method on a premature baby. I think you should do what you feel comfortable with and what’s best for your situation.

Hi Jessica! I recently heard that Dawn was the best because of it's ability to remove residue (lotions, body oils, etc). I have also had families who used Young Living Thieves.

Hello. Thank you for this video. It was very helpful. I just have a question. I have the Avent Microwave sterilizer and I read in the instructions for my spectra something about how the rubber parts can melt when using the traditional sterilizing method with the boiling water for as long as you do it with the other pump parts, but I just wanted to know if for the Microwave sterilizer, if those white rubber parts will be just fine being sterilized with the rest of the pump parts. 1st time mom with a 9 day old here. 🖐🏼😅 Also, I subscribed. 😁

So you can use the sterilizing bags INSTEAD of washing with warm soapy water?
@sriranjini_nagendra3 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for the info. Have a few questions. 1) After a pumping session, do we need to rinse the parts in hot/normal water before storing them in a refrigerator ? 2) do we need to sterilize even the white soft rubber parts everyday once ?
@newparents3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sriranjini! 1. No need to rinse prior to storing, just put them in a plastic bag. Remember to give them a good wash once/day. 2. Yes, the small white part should be washed too. If you have a spectra check out the video I just posted to be sure you're using it correctly! kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnuVlIh7bcmNj6c

Someone commented: “how is this different than feeding from your breast”? as a reason that it’s probably not necessary to clean your pump parts after each use, here are some answers: 1. Infections such as yeast can also be transferred from mom to baby from an infected breast, nipple or even hands, bedsheets, etc if baby’s mouth or skin comes in contact with it. Wash your hands before you breastfeed or use a hand sanitizer. 2. Pump parts have “nooks and crannies” meaning crevices that can harbor harmful bacteria, yeast, etc. much more easily than a soft smooth breast. These little creatures then get into dried particles of milk, is usually the means of transmission, much in the same way that food in a refrigerator can still harbor germs and make someone sick. 3. My recommendations are made based on research results which are statistically significant, another word for this is “evidence based”, rather than my own thoughts personally. 4. You are correct that everyone should do what they want, however it’s helpful to make your decisions with current knowledge about how infections are passed and received. The older your baby is, the risk declines as their immune system strengthens. 😊 Love to all the mommas out there! It’s a tough job especially when you’re pumping every 3 hours! ❤ I hope everyone’s decisions work out well for them.

Yes, wash the parts first and then sterilize! No need to sterilize every time unless your pediatrician has told you otherwise.
@JonasBrosGirl3 жыл бұрын
@Shawn G For this question she is talking about the microwave bag for sterilizing, which is done after washing the parts with warm water and soap. Between pumping sessions during the day you don’t need to wash or sterilize the parts, just put them in the ziploc bag and put it in the fridge. The washing and sterilizing just needs to be done once a day, probably typically at night time when you’re done pumping for the day.

Yes you want to use a clean bottle each time you pump. Many people will pump into a baby bottle if it fits their pump, for example the avent bottles fit with the spectra pump.
