NSFW: LANGUAGE. Tired of cutting hair and yarn fibers from my rug away with a razor blade, I decided to read the DC14 manual and take the brush (beater) bar guard off. Here's an easier way to clean your Dyson's brush bar.

This is hilarious! I cleaned the beater bar, but couldn't get the bar aligned correctly, which resulted in the loudest noise ever. I was able to figure out which way the tabs face by watching your video. Thank you so much!!!! I was losing my mind!

I LOVED this video. It was so great to see someone else struggle with this issue and your raw response was hilarious. I feel the same way about cutting away 2 inches of rat's nest from my Dyson. I ended up buying the newest one because they figured this issue out and it's SOO MUCH BETTER for cleaning out the hair. The brush comes off in literally 30 seconds and you can just slice it away, put it back on, and not throw up a little in your mouth when you clean your Dyson.

I vacuumed over mushy dog crap last night with my dyson. Thank you so much for giving me a huge laugh and for actually helping me. I almost threw away my vacuum but have been able to (with your help) gain access to the part where the crap splattered and clean it out. You're the best!!!

Thanks. You kept me company and lighthearted while I learned to clean not only the brush but detach tubes. Runs like new again!

Thanks - this was fairly helpful... a few things I noted when cleaning my DC 14... 1) A US Quarter works just fine for twisting/unlocking the screws. 2) Have a trash can nearby so you can dump what you pull off right into the trash instead of needing to vacuum it back up. You're already touching the stuff with your hands.... 3) When replacing the plastic cover, you might to press the cover and the portion of the unit with the screw holes together before twisting the screw. Otherwise the screw may not lock the cover to the unit.

I have the same Dyson and I have 5 dogs, vacuum daily, and I use small embroidery scissors to cut the hair off the bar. I just run it down the bar, cutting a line and then pull the hair off in sections. I do this once a week at a minimum. Your vac is darn clean compared to my 10 year old Dyson. Its the best vacuum ever!

Easy to remove the drive band (With or without the Dyson tool) and then clean or replace the brush.I would say the ends need to be taken off and the bearings removed and cleaned/lubricated with a squirt of furniture polish...Plenty of videos to show you how to do this job on your Dyson.

I cleaned mine today, I took the bar out it was tricky, with that belt, but got it super clean. Little tricky getting the bar back in, but works as good as new.

You need to change the title to " man dismantles dyson with no instructions " . Which is just what I'm about to do 👍

Kirby is well praised for its vacuum suction strength. But vacuum cleaner technology keeps improving every 10 years. The appeal of the Dyson over the Kirby is its much better filtration. This video shows the author never read the user manual. The brush can be removed and you should clean the underside -- as well as the entire caninster and filters. It's all covered in the manual. Clean the vacuum often if your house has a lot of dirt or pets.

I use a similar method, only I don't want to touch the yucky stuff that's stuck there any more than you do, so I use an old pair of needle nose pliers that can get in under the clumps I've cut with old scissors. Nasty job any way you do it, but very necessary if you really want clean(er) carpets and floors.

I was hoping to learn something new!! But I guess that is it... Best vacuum ever so we have to put up with the task.:) To engineers out there... come up with a better robotic cleaning mechanism... Still best vacuum ever!

Try using a fine point scissors on both sides of the bar.

Dude, put a piece of newspaper down first, then you won't have to vacuum that stuff back into the machine, you can just roll up the newspaper and throw it out! An old pair of scissors works pretty well for cutting that hair off, too.

For those nay sayers, no, the manual does not show you how to do this (it just shows taking the cover off and cutting the hair and pulling it off the brushes), I checked. But, you can clean behind the band part, by pulling the far end of the roller out and sliding it just far enough out of the band to clean the bit behind the band. You'll then have to wrestle the band back on to the right spot and then fit the roller back in.
