Good job. You have a great narrative style. Relaxed and detail focused.

Great Video, Just got done taking off the throttle body and cleaning. It was a mess. FYI, you can put the idle air control in backwards and the plug will not go on because it hits the oxygen sensor . Lesson learned. Had to take the TB back off and rotate the IAC valve 180 degrees. Now the old 2.5 is idling smooth. Gas mileage should improve as well.

Great video!! I have a "Junkyard Gem" of a 1990 Cherokee 4.0 that I am working on and this is in the top 2 things I need to do next. Valve cover gasket first though..

Thank you for the video. I changed mine and made a difference not only in stabilizing idle, but response as well. One thing I didn't see you mention that I thought might be worth mentioning. Chances are after you change or clean your IAC valve, you ECM will have to re calibrate. It will most likely run at high rpm. From the directions that came with my new one, said to drive at 40 mph and at engine temp. It will calibrate to the pre-set ECM settings. Thanks again!

Yup, good point. Depending on what year engine you're driving, it could seem like an extraordinarily long time for it to learn, and you might start second guessing everything you just did. But you are correct. Let it re-calibrate everything and you'll see the improvement.

I need to do this on my 87 2.5L YJ… but it’s throttle body injected and I have fuel lines and all sorts of crap running to the TB. Trying to figure out how to correctly disconnect everything but I’m having trouble finding any info online

What about a new gasket? Do you scrape the old off with a razor or flathead?

First thing is clean the inside of T. B. while the jeep is running, spray it in there, you won't have such a mess when you take it off. Your I.A.C. valve can be rocked back & forth while pushing in with your thumb after it's clean, it will reset itself. Always use a lubricant on the o-ring on the I.A.C. when installing. I would also use new T.B. gasket like you did, their like 2 bucks as you said. I always lubricate the stem for the butterfly & the cables, they have nylon bushings in there. Also if you have an air compressor it's GREAT TO BLOW IT ALL OUT WHILE CLEANING.
