Great explainer. Thank you! Do you have anything about high idle? I changed the IAC, checked vacuum lines and still nothing.
@DEInTheGarage
@DEInTheGarage 7 жыл бұрын
Did you try cleaning the throttle body? Sometimes the build up on the throttle body or inside the IAC housing will cause a high idle situation. When you checked the vacuum lines, how did you do it? Leaks can be hard to detect and even a small leak (a stretched elbow fitting or hairline crack) can cause a high idle. 4.0's are notorious for vacuum issues. Outside of the easy stuff, check that the wiring on your IAC is all intact. I have heard of cracks in intake manifolds causing idle issues as well. Long story short, high idle can be any number of things, best way to solve it is to spend some time under the hood with a fine toothed comb. Good luck! Hope this helps!

@@seanwaldo9229 I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. I just had the radiator replaced & the first day I had it back it would stall out when I came to a stop. I took it back to garage & it says reset adaptive memory. Could that have fixed it? Now it is stalling out almost immediately. Do you think what you did would help? Thanks!!

Man, you are a great teacher. You explained everything clearly and the best part is you gave warning to common missteps that dumb shade tree mechanics like me always make. A lot of videos skip supposedly easy steps but when I'm doing repairs on my XJ there is a lot of new territory and I don't even know the basics yet. Your explanations of what the MAP, IAC and TPS do was the best I've seen. I plan on cleaning my throttle body this week or next. Thanks for posting this.

BRO I'm literally taking my glove off to get to your comment box. Man oh man, you got me through not one but two things I've had holding me up for a whole day in getting my throttle body and IAC sensor off. Dadgum cable #2 was seated in a weird way, so glad I found your video so I didn't break it. Then my IAC was stuck on there bad, I unbolted from the unit but it was still stuck. When you said it should pop off, I got a flathead and sure enough, out it came. I owe you man! 🍺 I have a gorgeous '06 JGCL Ltd. Getting worked done that it's needed for awhile and being able to do it right on my own is just the best feeling ever.

Thanks for the great explanation on the throttle body sensors! BTW, with a rough idle I was prepared to remove the Idle sensor, but discovered that the hose clamp securing the filtered air passage to the throttle body had worked loose. Perhaps the K&N air filter aggravated this issue, but it's now another item to frequently check.

I have a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 5.2 L V8 and am replacing my IAC soon (engine randomly stalls). I appreciate your explanation of all of the sensors connected to the throttle housing and what they do and what symptom problems each one may exhibit when they start to fail. I will be pulling my throttle housing off of my engine to do a thorough cleaning as you had suggested to get all of the carbon deposits off of the throttle housing for a better running engine. P.S. I also suggest having one of those long retractors tools handy when working on this area as I initially dropped a cleaning pad down into the throttle housing body and had to walk to the auto supply store to get one to retrieve that cleaning pad. Live and learn.

The 2002 4L WJ(wife jeep) 150k miles idled very rough was hard to start. I replaced plugs, fuel filter, & coil pack still had same issues. Next day replaced crankcase vent hoses, and the manifold vacuum hoses. All old hoses were cracked. Fixed rough idle and stalling but still hard to start, runs good once started. Found out the new Auto Zone fuel filter didn't have a regulator. Replaced with Advanced Auto filter. Used anti seize on the 4 throttle body bolts. I always use Anti-seize. Runs good.

Observation. Just remove the air filter cover for more room. 4 clamps :( also, when removing the throttle body cables, make sure you show exactly how to remove them. I thought i could just "pop" off the cruise control cable. Well, I broke the the plastic piece. Try replacing that :( I had to get one made with a 3d printer. Instead, you need to 'slide' it off the cable. I ended up super gluing it back together but it was definitely a problem that could have be avoided. Anyway, just trying to give some advice to someone who may have this problem. Cheers

Yep, I watch this video now and cringe that I didn't think to pop the entire air box assembly off. It is hard to watch. Haha. You are absolutely correct about that and the throttle cables. Thanks for the feedback

Thanks for not pretending to know-it-all. You already know A LOT! Does not having the wire through the accordian hose mean that I don't have a Mass Air Flow Sensor on my 1999 Grand Cherokee 4.0L? I have been getting intermitant engine cut out while driving down the road. Some folks attribute that to the MAFS. I bought it with 60K miles on it and put another 145K on it. The rear driver window started opening whenever it felt like it. I installed a salvaged Body Control Module and it still does it. My next guess is the window control inside that door. Any other suggestions? I am glad you like making these videos. Please continue!

Thank you very much. Your video helped me to clean the throttle body of my 4.0 Grand Cherokee 2000 and exchange the IOC-Sensor: idle speed is great again. I noted that the screws attaching the position sensor are stucked, I dont want to break anything there. Any ideas on how to get them loose?

Thanks man! I learned a lot from this video! Changed out my TPS on my own (this is a big frickin deal as I'm not prone to being mechanically inclined) and hopefully that fixed the stalling and lurching problem. I drove it for a while last night and it didn't do it, but the real test will be this morning after sitting all night!

Hmm... I assume you dont have any Check engine lights? You can try disconnecting these sensors one at a time to see if there is any chance./ When they are disconnected the ECU (obviously) cannot read them a reverts to a standard setting. if you disconnect on and your long crank goes away, that sensor needs to be changed. FYI, disconnecting these WILL throw check engine codes, but they can be cleared ant they will not come back. feel free to email me if you want to chat more about this issue dandeoffroad@gmail.com
