How To Clean Throttle Body and MAF on Nissan / Infiniti 3.5 Engine

Quick video how to clean Nissan / Infiniti 3.5 liter engine. It is a popular motor used on Infiniti G35 and Fx35 as well as Nissan 350Z and Nissan Maxima.
So here is the scoop: My car developed a problem. When warm it would stall right after starting. I had to pump the throttle in order to start the car. I decided to look at the throttle body on my motor. Not only it was super dirty, the cleaning helped my fix the problem. I also cleaned the MAF sensor. As a result my car start every time, responds better on accelerator and gain some power back.

With the key on the “on” position u can have someone step on the accelerator to open the butterfly or wedge a stick or something between the gas pedal and seat to keep the butterfly open. Then you will be able to clean the throttle body without manually pushing open the butterfly which is not recommended

Great video content.. by any chance dud you change any sensors. I am trying to locate the crankshaft position sensor and transmission speed sensor apparently the 2010 is different than early years which videos aren't helpful

Yes! He missed that step. However, you also DON'T need to remove the throttle body from the housing to clean these. You can hold open the butterfly with a finger, spray the fluid, then use a rag (not a napkin/paper-based product) to clean the plate and tube. I prefer to remove the tube entirely and spray that down w/ the MAF sensor in place, there is no need to remove it. I replaced my rubber gasket at 50K and 100k miles just because. NOTE 1: The throttle bodies on this video are very dirty, I'm guessing they haven't been cleaned in some time thus the problems, if you proactively maintain your vehicle you wont have these problems. I perform my K&N filter, cabin air filter and throttle body/MAF sensor cleaning every 15K miles. NOTE 2: There is a different cleaner for the MAF sensor and the throttle body.

Hi, I have FX35 2006 model, the car does not go over 4000 rpm / 100 miles per hour, with gas pedal fully pressed. Car has 140.000 miles on the clock. I took it to diagnostics, no fault is shown. Could this problem be related to MAF and throttle body?

I have a 2008 ex35 that gets stuck in third gear when it gets hot. Transmission specialist said I need to replace the throttle body for over $3,000 Do you think cleaning the throttle bodies will fix the problem?

I have a 2007 Z , i live in Florida , heat soak is a problem in the summer , you still have the CCV’s hooked up to your intake air tubes , this is where your getting all that dirty stuff from , and the hard starting in the summer , it can’t come through the air cleaner , so out of the engine it comes as an oil mist , unbrunt stuff sucked right back into your intake system , causing all that stuff you just cleaned , don’t let your engine recycle that dirty air back into its self , vent it into the air under the hood

Yes, clean the the tube AND the MAF sensor at the same time...use different cleaners for each.

Same location, there are two of them, one on each intake. Clean them with MAF cleaner, not throttle body cleaner.

No need for reprogramming. Do NOT disconnect the throttle body and do NOT disconnect the battery. You should be good.

Just did the plugs today not that bad to replace the spark plugs I didnt completely remove the manifold just certain hoses and moved the manifold around just enough to get to the rear coil packs

Not the battery to be precise. He didn't unplug the throttle body connector, otherwise it will be a must. Personally I would prefer the reset/relearn.

do we really need to disconnect the throttle body, or can we just spray in there without taking the throttle body off? those 4 screws look like a bit of a headache to take off...

Doo not doo this when cleaning your throttle body... put the car in Acc put it in Drive press the gas the throttle will open then clean it... Doo NOT push the butterfly with your fingers.. But if you think im just talking craziness say hii to the Stealership$$$

Not true on the g37. Pushing them open does not damage anything on the g37s. I agree in some cars it does. But not the g37. No harm at all.

Otherworldly Burrows I’m pretty sure you should not even touch the butterfly of the VQ engine. If you do, you will likely have to do the idle relearn procedure. These throttle bodies are quite sensitive. You might get away with it, but there’s a chance adjustments will be needed.

@@h94403 I didn't have to reset the idle on mine. I would try the process you are refering to. If it is gen 2 G35, it is the same motor.

Do you know if this is the same for an ex35? (it is a 3.5l engine) I have a 2008 and it starts and stalls when it is warm. Never cold and I can usually get it started about the fourth time. I have a new starter and alternator and it has not fixed the issue.@@TheRealMeCoWhy

The MAF sensor cleaner is a non-residual type cleaner, not quite de-natured alcohol but something like it. 3M make one. A bit costly for the spray can, but it's something that should be cleaned done 6 months to a year so you will use it, and on all modern cars. The reason is the MAF sensors get coated with diesel combustion residue on the street and other similar things and dust, then give poor readings on air-flow, and the car will run lean or rich, probably lean, which is bad news.
