Perfect. I bought a truck where the previous owner painted over the fog lights. Turns out the fog lights work. I have no idea why he painted them (maybe he thought it would become a tint). I'm going to give this a try this weekend.

I ruined my Lexus headlights by sanding and then spray painting clear for plastic, non-yellowing, uv protective. Am now replacing headlights but I will try this. If it works maybe I can sell original headlights. Thanks. Do you think any paint thinner would work?

use compound and a very fine bristle then use polish after that. i did that to clear them up on my 2000 TL and the finished product looks fantastic.

Thinner gives a dull layer to the plastic which you cannot remove because Thinner is aggressive and eats into the plastic

What do you suggest?
@SweetestMaleficia
@SweetestMaleficia Жыл бұрын
@@leeggz2008 Turpentine which works just as well, but it will not form a dull layer like with thinner or paint-thinning thinner, which is diluted and therefore not as aggressive because with most plastic headlights, normal thinner leaves a dull white layer that you can polish, but it will eventually come back

@@SweetestMaleficiaHi can this be used if the headlights were painted inside the lens on the reflectors?
@SweetestMaleficia
@SweetestMaleficia Жыл бұрын
@@Amg641 Normally it should be enough if the outer layer is done because after a while dirt will set in the plastic that layer will then be removed by the turpentine but it may have to be repeated a few times depending on how bad the headlights are but when it comes to paint, a mixture of toothpaste and baking soda can be effective as both products are very abrasive and should be able to remove the coating without leaving scratches or damage. You can also always use WD-40 which is not directly the most effective but it removes the fog layer or what can also be used is Vaseline but do know that all the above solutions are only temporary. The most effective is to tape the bodywork around the lamp and make sure that the adhesive of the tape is not too aggressive because this will leave adhesive residues. Wet the headlight well, then take a 400-grit sandpaper and sand the light lightly, do not sand coarsely, but as if you can hurt the light. See that it stays nice and wet during sanding and if you have a light dull layer it's good. Repeat this process with sandpaper of 600, and 1000, and at the end of 2000, see that your light stays nice and wet, if you notice with 2000 grit that there is no dull layer, then lightly press the paper but don't overdo it. When everything has been sanded, wipe the headlight cleanly with a cloth and see that the lamp is nice and clean. Then you can spray the lamp with a 2-component clear coating, let it dry, lightly sand with 2000 grit and apply another layer of 2-component clear coating. When the clear coat is dry polish it by hand and the lights are as good as new but it's up to yourself if you want to use a clear coat or not but it would create a sealing layer on the headlight
