The reason that Jettas taillights look so bad is because the dude probably just sprayed the VHT on and then called it quits. I've tinted taillights with VHT and I've made them look amazing. My car has them tinted. It's not very hard. 1. Wet sand the taillights with 2000 grit. 2. Clean them off very well. 3. Apply 2 coats of VHT. 4. Apply 1 coat of clear coat. Gives it a dark, ALMOST vinyl look to it. All in all, get yourself some wrap. You'll save your taillights and it will look much better.

I did mine with red night shade on my old car. Cleaned them with alcohol, applied 3-4 light coats, 2-3 thicker coats (depending on what color / darkness you wanted), then did 4-6 coats of clear coat. They turned out awesome and still 2 years later (I know the new owner of the car) are holding up well and look oem. The Jetta looks like they sprayed 1-2 thick layers of night shades and called it a day.. looked like shit.

the VHT Night Shades can be installed properly and look amazing. I've don't it to my last 3 vehicles and got compliments all the time and it never faded or flaked.

Any tips on how to make final product look glossier ? I've seen like 10 different video and they all look bit weird after few coats

@@MWARIS1 wet sand the lense w/2000 grit, make sure there no imperfections left on it. Spray light, even coats on it (depending how dark you would like to go). Now, once it dries its going to look matt and faded. to get a high polish i used Meguiars polishing compound, then hand wax. Turned out beautiful on my girlfriends car.

to make nightshade look like film, you have to polish it or wetsand and polish it. when you just spray it on there it ends up looking like plastidip. in this case it's installer error.

A few drops of lacquer thinner on a rag. Wipes right off. As soon as its clean spray and wipe liberally with denatured alcohol. Perfect removal everytime. I suggest masking before using either product near the rubber trim or the paint

VHT nite shade looks great when you do it right. Seems like the owner put too many layers or didn't let the previous layer dry causing the unfinished matte look.

Be cautious with older lens. I tried removing the tent from my tail lights with brake cleaner. It removed tint no problem but made my tail light cracked really bad.

For anyone seeing this now, after cleaning it with the brake cleaner, clean it with alcohol to remove all residue, and go back over it with the RED VHT, looks great, and gets rid of the cracking and white film

holy shit that dude who used the VHT night shade did absolutely no prep work. he thought it would work as is. you have to wet sand in between coats and finish it up by polishing it. I did it to my frs and spray can applications require a lot of work compared to proper spray gun applications. Don't knock VHT cause the dude used it wrong. you can clearly see his coats were uneven and heavy.

I know this is a late reply but do you have any tips to take off VHT Nightshade overspray from the car itself? i got some on the outside of the taillights on the car.

Try using a little bit of isopropyl alcohol, I would also recommend buying a clay bar kit and waxing the area after it’s been wiped down with alcohol

Yes brake parts cleaner works great but be carefull where ure spraying it because it also removes your tag sticker decal very fast as well. PS listen to me and my mishap lol

I used the VHT to do the taillights on my car and it came out pretty good but also I tried it on my head ligths and made them super dark so I'm going to try the break cleaner thanks for the video.

FUTURE TIP: Nightshade, with some nail polish remover or acetone will take it off in seconds just like he said tho mask off as much as you can avoid your paint. hopefully save I time

Best way to spray on vht is Clean the taillights Spray 3 coats of vht wait till it drys Sand it with 1000 grit Spray it again with vht Clear coat it Sand it with 2000 Clear coat again Polish it with some compound Looks clean no Peel and has a mirror finish none of that dull bs

The best and easiest way to remove nightshade is to remove the lights and spray them down with a can of Goof Off. Don't even need to rub them, the Goof Off will make the nightshade run right off.
