Is impossible to see the lcd at least for me. Easy install kzbin.infoUgkx_hHgTlzH3uk31Fe2RVS3xEbXHGaN_z5Tation. Came on time . Great comfort around the house 5 🌟 again. You can also open the Styrofoam housing around the front fan and clean that compartment. The smaller fan looks like a gerbil wheel. A lot of mold can be located in that area of the unit. I use a leaf blower to blow out leaves and dirt after opening the unit, being careful not to hit the fins with a blast of air causing them to bend. Soak down both fans in sudsy solution, rinse, tip to drain, repeat. Be careful to use low water pressure when spraying it off so you don't bend fins. I also blow out any excess rinse water with the leaf blower for a faster dry time. If the fins are bent, you'll need to straighten them to get good air flow through the unit. I just did a 6500 BTU that was easy and working on a 12,000 BTU unit full of mold now. It's a complete tear down, I removed all of the housing. The fins behind the large fan were covered in muck and mold.

Hey Jonny, I was going out of my mind trying to get the front off of my machine. It was my daughters and I had no idea how bad of shape it was in until I noticed that the filter light was on. I know I had just cleaned it and well, it was just too soon to do it again. I took my mini light and peeked into the front of the air conditioner, and it floored me at the amount of thick muck that was in he front. I fought with it, but the blasted machine wouldn't release the front for cleaning. I contacted the maker of this machine and they had nothing, and i mean NOTHING! on how to get it off. I was by chance, after I futzed with it for an hour, even my dogs were getting worried about my blood pressure, so I decided to jump on KZbin and try to find someone who wants to do the same with their ac, that I wanted to do. And thank my lucky stars (wish it were the lottery numbers) you were working on the same pain in the butt type ac. Watching you got me thru a terrible time and when I finally got a chance to get it cleaned, and trust me it was black on the inside, when I switched it on, it was wonderful!!! Absolutely wonderful!. I live in an apartment complex in NYC, and a back yard is unavailable here on the 15th floor, but since I live alone and got that job done, it's such a satisfying feeling. Thank you again for your video, it really saved me.

@@JonnyDIY that's an interesting approach! I've never thoroughly cleaned an AC unit until now. And I found out why the compressor was rusty at the bottom. It's because the unit had no way of draining rainwater. I had to drill several holes at the base so it could drain and wouldn't accumulate, causing damage. Do you notice that often, or did I just happen to get a faulty appliance?

Isn't it a fire hazard to spray the black compressor?
@JonnyDIY4 жыл бұрын
You clean it unplugged and wait a day for it to dry so no worry about fire hazard or damage to electronics

What is the concentration of soap and vinegar?
@JonnyDIY7 жыл бұрын
Half Vinegar, Half Soapy Water. Vinegar will help get rid of any odors & the Dish soap will help cut some of the dirt & grime.

Plain old white Vinegar and dish soap to clean the coils ? I'm gonna try that
@JonnyDIY6 жыл бұрын
Yeah it works. Just use a brush to get in the coils and really get them clean if theyre dirty. I guess you could always buy can of foaming coil cleaner if super mucked up

I just had to do this yesterday as water was dripping into my room. I hate doing this each year to twice a year due to slime more than any other reason.

What's sad is my window ac unit hasnt been cleaned in.. uh idk.. 4 or so years.. needless to say with 2 cars and tons of bird dust it's filthy. Thanks for this video. Will be cleaning it thoroughly tomorrow. It started leaking water into my room 😱
@JonnyDIY5 жыл бұрын
You're welcome, hope you get it nice and clean. You'll be surprised at how much better it'll work after giving it a good cleaning 👍🏻

Leaking is caused by a plugged drain... not a dirty coil.

My air conditioner weighs over 100 pounds. It is huge and two grown men had a hard time getting it up the steps to my house which is like on the second floor as I have a full basement.
@JonnyDIY7 жыл бұрын
If taking the unit out is not an option. I would recommend getting a can of foaming coil cleaner. Spray it on the coil fins (the part out the back of window) and wash off with the hose. Thats the best thing you can do without removing the unit. Hope this helps
@patriciaokelley1877 жыл бұрын
Jonny DIY thanks
@user-bo4ws3sj5x6 жыл бұрын
@@JonnyDIY how is this process done? Do I just spray it on the back of the unit and spray the water on it? Does the unit need to be off or on?
@JonnyDIY6 жыл бұрын
@@user-bo4ws3sj5x you can just spray the coil cleaner on back of unit then just rinse off with the hose (careful not to use too high pressure nozzle as you can bend coil fins)
@palmsofdestin16 жыл бұрын

Does this show what not to do? 1 don’t use an acidic cleaner like vinegar 2 the evap coils provide cooling not the back coils focus more on them 3 don’t spray water directly down the fron where the air comes out take it apart and make sure it’s dry dry 4 if u spray the drain pan like that with everything stretched you will kick up dirt and get more it your unit

I did this and accidently wet the electronic part what can I do to dry it out and make it work again 😥😥😥
@JonnyDIY7 жыл бұрын
Uhh ohh... Hmm if theres any way to take apart the electronic part and leave it open to dry I would do that. If you cant do that Id leave it out in the heat to dry for a couple days & make sure its all dry without any pools of water near the electronic part. Hope it works again!

Becareful don't put water on the fan motor you will burn the winding of fan motor if you do it in similar ways without covering the fan motor with plastic bag and using that water pressure very risky for fan motor. Also the inner side of the condenser need to be seen as some time it does not go with water pressure, it becomes as hard as cement although it's dry mud over the fins but you need to use special washing chemical to soften it first and then it will wash away with normal water pressure. Or ypu can use steel wired brush to scratch it off very gently witout damaging aliminium fins at the lower insider fins of condenser at back side of ac
