Just bought the 17 inch yesterday @ Target on sale. I needed another kitchen toy to cheer me up. My husband & I are in 70's but I still like to have fun in the kitchen. This video on cleaning is the best. I have used cast iron all my life and never use paper towels. Old dish towels or bar towels are the best. Thanks for the info & I look forward to more of your videos.👍😊🦋

EXCELLENT tutorial, thank you! For those without a large grill brush, you can use kosher or rock salt on a dampened rag to get a similar result. The large-grain salt will provide a good rough medium that breaks loose the sticky stuff without posing any risk to the griddle surface. It's an old cast iron trick that works well on the Blackstone!

I wish they made one with a stainless cook surface like we had without having to spend $3500+. We used a grill scrapper and grill clothes which were old bar mops sewn together to make a thick pad and a grill screen. We were not allowed to use water. We had to use oil only. I know the night crew used ice on it to clean it but we all know that will warp it. I like your mannerism in your vlog. Good job. Thanks for sharing, Jay :-)

Nice job, Kirby. I see so many videos on KZbin with people using abrasives, soap and all kinds of crazy stuff. THIS is how you do it. I rarely do a deep clean...just quick cleans. And I use very little water. After a year, my Blackstone is going strong with a beautiful, shiny, black non-stick surface. Heat all 4 burners on high for 10 minutes to sanitize the top before each cook, and it's go time!

You need a proper scrapper, not a flipper. I use a squeegee for the final removal of water on the cleanup. Up north we are coming to the end of the season. I put a good coat of food-grade mineral oil on a cold griddle and then cover the surface with plastic wrap and squeegee the air out for winter storage. Works great. No rust come spring.

I am so glad I came across your channel. I just used my new flat top grill and I was mad because that nice silver color was now black and I thought after I used the oil method, my grill still had a burnt look and I had ruined it. I so mine in a similar way, using a bit more heat right after the cook, along with water even to the point of steaming, which helps get the excess stuck food off. I’ll wipe it several times with cloth and scraper, and with the steam, I know it is also sanitized for next time. Turn heat off, and then coat with some olive oil, or as you say, whatever your favorite oil is. Then cover. Before I start the next cook, I’ll turn it on low, hit with some more water because even though it is clean, I live in a dusty climate and even though covered, I want to make sure it is free from any dust, depending on how long it has been since last use.

When you season your griddle, its suggested to use Flax seed oil by the manufacturer. I didn't use flax seed, to me its not that big of a deal. Congrats on the new griddle, they are a lot of fun and make up some delicious food.

I got a black stone 36” about two years ago. This is exactly why I hardly ever use it. Too much work “after” I eat. I have two gas grills, several charcoal grills, and a smoker. I use those all the time. When I do simple things like burgers, I use the gas grill then use my second gas grill as bun toaster. Use a charcoal grill 2-3 times a week. Use the smoker for the long BBQ cooks like pulled pork, ribs, brisket, etc. When using that stuff most the work is before you eat. When the foods ready, I want to chow, then hangout, not spend extra time cleaning a griddle. When I’m at work I eat really light and say “it’s easier to work hungry, then work full.” Not hating of course, and your video is one of the better ones I’ve seen on the subject.

Thank you Ronnie, I appreciate that. Griddles are fun to use and cook up some great food. Happy griddling Ronnie!
