Hello, I see after cleaning you add one layer of oil. Do you burn it off or put oil on cold? Thank You for your time...
@waltwins4 жыл бұрын
6496chase hello, thank you so much for watching! I have done both - I try to ensure I have a thin layer of oil left on the griddle top to help preserve/keep it from rusting. 🤙🤙

I just get it hot and de-glaze it with water. I might use wine or vinegar if it's stubborn. Wipe it down with a wet paper towel and spray on olive oil after it dries and cools down a little. It's too easy.

I just got a 36" Blackstone and a 30" pro series steelmade griddle. I asked in a fb group if anyone used rags instead of paper towels. I went through 2 rolls in just a couple days. 😬 Gonna get expensive. Most comments were about grease in washing machine. I thought it would be common sense you'd rinse them first. I have been watching cleaning videos for a while and yours is first to mention rags!! Thank you for showing a different option.

Oh awesome, we are so happy this video helps! While ultimately we went back to paper towels, for sure there are many who prefer the rags, and like you said, we rinse them before washing and it works great!! Take care fam and GRIDDLE ON!🔥🔥

I seasoned my Griddle using Olive Oil. After the initial "seasoning of the griddle," I mostly use "Cooking Spray" (like Pam) with either Olive Oil or Canola Oil. I fire up the burners and spray a light coat of cooking spray on it, and when the griddle is good and hot, I turn down the burners and start cooking. Rather than turning the burners off, then back on to clean the griddle... when I'm done cooking, I turn off the burners, and immediately begin the cleaning process while the griddle is still hot. 1) If there is any stuck on food on the griddle, I squirt water on it, and wait about 1 minute for the water to boil off and loosen the stuck on food. If there's nothing "stuck on" the griddle, I don't even use the water. I just used the scraper. 2) Then I use the metal scraper and scrape the griddle off into the grease trap. 3) Then I take a clean and dry, wad of paper towels, and wipe it down. Voila! All done! And it's ready for the next cooking excursion. Smile! BTW... I have the same griddle as in the video.

I am new to using a flattop griddle, just got mine yesterday! I purchased an inexpensive package of 100% cotton cloths from the dollar store, I washed and dried them without using any sort of fabric softener. I put them in a plastic baggie and marked on the outside what it is so no one else uses them for other purposes. I decided I would place the oiled cloth in another plastic baggie and placed it in the freezer, that will keep it from getting soiled and keep it from getting rancid (fresh). I'll use it as many times as I can before I'll toss it and get out another.

I learned a lot and now all I have to do is decide which one to go get. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and time.

Thank you so much for watching! We did a ton of research before our first griddle too! It’s a bit of a learning curve, but not much! The cold-rolled steel takes a bit more maintenance like cast iron - with cleaning and seasoning, but it’s fun process! If you are looking for a no-fuss option, we just started working with the new Pit Boss griddles that are nonstick - it’s different it there isn’t a seasoning process and the cleanup is a breeze! That said, we really love both!
@mikenicholson25483 жыл бұрын
I am huge in cast iron so I clean my black stones the same way. I do have a rag that I leave in a red solo cup with a mix of olive oil and vegetable oil. Just a little oil in the bottom and take and wipe the grill down when your done cleaning. Builds a great layer.
@waltwins3 жыл бұрын
Perfect, yes! The layer of oil after cleaning is key! We’ve had mass rainstorms, gone out and had a small puddle on the griddle - we’ve dried it up and wiped it down, applied more oil without issues. It’s perfect! Thank you so much for watching!🤙🤙

I appreciate your no-nonsense, informative & entertaining vids as much as I appreciate my Blackstone itself? Just one question, do you really have a twin brother or does Pixar do it all in the studio on a Macintosh?

Thank you so much! Hahaha!! Yup! As another content creator once pointed out, we are “freakishly identical twins.” It was spot on.🤣🤣

What kind of oil do you prefer
@waltwins4 жыл бұрын
Great question! I used Canola, but I’ve also used thin coats of Olive Oil and even vegetable oil. For cooking, I prefer avocado, vegetable, or olive oil.

Thanks for sharing your video I was wondering how to do the cleaning after each cook. I just got mine yesterday can’t wait to try it out.

You can use a onion instead of a towel, just stab it real good like so it doesn’t go anywhere. (When applying the oil to the griddle)
@waltwins3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, yes! I know Blackstone Betty uses an onion, it we’ve never tried. Will definitely give it a go!🤙🤙

Thank you for posting this. I have been unsure of how to clean my Blackstone. Is the use of olive oil not recommended to oil the top? I scrape the top, use some water, then use the olive oil. But when I open it for next use, the top has rust spots.... help!!!
@waltwins3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching and we’re happy this helped! Most likely you don’t have rust spots, but the oil that was used for the last cook is rust colored. If you lay oil on it and wipe and it’s not the rust color, you are good to go!

We recently purchased a black stone. You guys are an awesome resource for beginners. We noticed there is black residue on our food when we cook, what are we doing wrong?
@waltwins3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching and congratulations on the new Blackstone! It may be a bit of the seasoning coming up a bit - I know I struggled with eggs at first always looking black. The one thing I do is wipe the griddle surface down with oil before I cook. If the paper towel/towel looks clean, the surface should be good to go - hope this helps!🤙🤙

I got a nice tip and it worked for me tonight. I had plopped fajita chicken on my griddle but I forgot to put oil down first so it stuck. Well, a friend of mine said to use vodka as the alcohol not only helps get off stuck on food, it will also help sanitize the griddle. It worked beautifully. Don't use a good vodka, get the cheapest stuff you can find he said.

Thanks for the video. You have it warm, book says when temp drops below 300. But do people leave it running while eating? I turned mine off, ate, then went back to clean it, seemed OK. Only used once so far.
@waltwins2 жыл бұрын
For sure there are very many ways to clean the griddle - we leave it warm, but hotter would allow for steam if there are stuck foods, but too hot and you run the risk of burns from the water or steam. I like to clean up right after the cook (less sticking food), but many wait for sure - you gotta do what works for you! Take care and GRIDDLE ON FAM!🤙🤙🔥🔥

You guys have been so much helped to me with my blackstone experience. But I have a question (probably dumb) about cleaning the griddle. I scraped off all the food and wiped it with a napkin to make sure everything is dry. But my napkin is brown after every wipe. Do I need to wipe until I have no brown when wiping, or am I wiping up the seasoning? It’s probably a dumb question and I’m sorry. I just don’t wanna mess anything up!
@waltwins3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching! Many would say it is fine, the brown is just seasoning. This is what we do - after cleaning, we have found using oil really helps. We lay a thin coat and wipe with a paper towel. It is usually brown. We will repeat this process (thin layer of oil and wipe) 3-4 times until the paper towel is virtually clear, only the oil color. Then we lay down the final thin layer of oil and rub it in to protect the surface, and you are good! Hope this helps! (We found the oil pulls the leftover brown “stuff” much better than water).🤙🤙
@Hanskimisntfunny Жыл бұрын
Can anyone tell me, after you clean it….the next time you want to use it can you just fire it up and start cooking? Or do you need to “season it” again?

I like to cook steaks, burgers and chicken. What’s the benefit or advantage of this grill over a typical Weber Gas Grill?
@waltwins3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching! While we would never discount the amazing foods produced by grills, another griddler out it best when he said “the griddle cooks just about everything a grill can, and about a thousand things the grill can’t” - we have found the versatility is amazing! We can cook eggs, while Teppanyaki and fried rice cooks, and many more! Good luck, we hope this helps!🤙🤙

Awesome video and Thanks Just purchased my first Blackstone, 28” Pro Series from Wal-Mart What’s best to season it with for the very first time?? Blackstone seasoning?
@waltwins3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching and Congratulations on the new Blackstone! That is so exciting!! We have not used the Blackstone seasoning and conditioner, but hear it works excellent! It should do the trick! Otherwise, any cooking oil will do - we have used canola, vegetable, and flaxseed oil (not together, at different times for different seasonings). Here in humid Florida, we found flaxseed does a great job laying a solid seasoning layer. Hope this helps!😄😄🤙🤙
@michaelburton11063 жыл бұрын
Great video. I use the same technique. But what I really want to know is how long can you go until the "next time"? I don't cook on it every day. Perhaps every week in the warmer months but maybe only once a month in the winter. You wouldn't just turn it on and throw meat on it after a month would you? You can do that with a grill but the griddle?
@waltwins3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching! Correct - even when I cook on it daily, I still clean it, put a thin coat of oil, and then the next time I cook, I wipe with a paper towel first, and then turn on the heat and cook. Hope this makes sense! Take care and GRIDDLE ON!🔥🔥🤙🤙

Sorry a newbie to your channel and really enjoying the videos. You make them for the simple man and I appreciate that. Silly question is, did you turn the burners COMPLETELY off beffore putting last coat of oil or kept some heat on? apologize for silly question. Thank you in advance.
@waltwins4 жыл бұрын
Not a silly question at all!! Thank you so much for watching! At the end (and something I do after every cook and clean), I put one more layer of oil on the griddle when it is cooled to help preserve the steel (keep it from rusting). Hope this helps!🤙🤙
