Thank you for the video. Just bought a used Weber from an older guy who said he was pissed off cleaning the grill every time. He used it around 10 times. Grill looked like new and after using it four times myself I am 100% sure thet he even cleaned the chimney starter. That is typical german :-)

My Weber "Go-Anywhere" portable grill which I use often, I clean it every other time I use it of course I scrub the grate after every use. It is small so lots of grease spatters all around the inside therefor lots of cleaning. However since it is so small clean up is a breeze I put foil at the bottom to catch ash and clumps of grease that alone take care of half the real hard to clean mess. Grease Lightning I use to loosen up the heavy grease. My large "Char-broil" grill which I don't use very often I just use my garden hose and some soap. The iron grates are a bit of a pain to maintain dealing with rust and all. I use steel grill pans and baskets on top of the iron grates to cut down in the need to clean those.

Hopefully you didn't do this. I realize you asked a year or so ago. There are no paints out there that would be safe to do this with. Any high temp paint you use on a grill must be somewhere where the food will not contact.

Would it be any different cleaning with soap and water if i have porcelain grill racks? Any suggestions??
@moniquevandeplas52102 жыл бұрын
I don't know myself about porcelain but I know the correct way to clean cast iron...though I think I only did once as I am lazy and just wash in dish soap....but the correct way after using a cast iron pan is to wipe it with canola oil and put it in oven at like 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Then when it's cool enough to touch use newspaper to wipe it out. I think you are supposed to move the biggest debris before putting oil in there and has to be a thin layer of oil to coat it...might be your supposed to wipe it with newspaper and canola oil before putting it in. I know there are a few people I have talked to who have agreed with this. I know your's is porcelain not cast iron but I am guessing it's going to be a oil based thing. Maybe talk to some people who do pottery?

The Kamado is like the self-cleaning oven in some homes. Crank that sucker up to 700 or 800 degrees and all that is left inside is dusty ash that merely sweeps out. No grease, no drippings, nothing.

One good idea to do with the white ash is to sprinkle it on plant roots to help them grow. White ash is pure carbon and can be used as a carbon substitute to plants
@cashuma50105 жыл бұрын
. . . you're talking pure bullshit (means exactly: you don't know what you're talking about): 'White ash' is everything else than carbon from organic stuff (like Food, Wood, Charcoal, . . . ) which can't be oxidized, i.e.: mineralic stuff, salts, micro elements and micro nutrients . . . but in one point you are right: these remainders are definitely useful fertilizers for gardening as long as you don't overdo it . . . (btw: the color of pure carbon is always black / dark greyish / anthrazite)

My steel smoker gets cleaned with fire and leave blower. I replace the grill every year or two depending on deterioration. After 12 years it's held up well, considering its in the rain and Texas weather. 12-14 hundred dollars can buy you the best smoker/grill.

Couple of noobish questions: - My grill's papers state that I should coat the entire grill (inside and outside) with spray, to create a protective coating, every time I grill. This however creates a black coating all on the inside, including the little wire grills. Is this something I should do? or is it unnecessary?. - The ash pan has a very obtuse shape that makes it very difficult to clean properly, specially where the beams meet the curvature of the pan. Here, drippings tend to collect and its incredibly hard to remove. Should I worry about it?. Or frequent grilling will turn all that to ash without the risk of rust forming on the pan?. - And finally, what are the best methods to avoid rust forming in the grill, and if some appears, what can I do?. Thanks for any information, in advance.

For the Kamado, why not just make some Neapolitan pizzas? That seems to clean everything out of mine. Well, except the ash, but that's the easy part anyways. For my Weber, I tend to get grease buildup on the lid that then drips on my patio/deck, which is not good. I'll try the tinfoil trick.

i have the best way to clean my grills. every two years i sell them at my garage sale. you be suprised at how much you can sell them for. many people are willing to give them a cleaning. THEN BAM i go out and buy a new one on sale. i just got a 22in Weber jumbo joe for 74 bucks. sold old one for 50 bucks. i didnt have to spend money on soap and brushes, replacement grill parts. i sold my wood pellet grill for more than i payed for it by 5 bucks. i hated that wood pellet grill and did not buy a new one. sold my dirty gas grill for 30bucks less than i paid for it. will not replace it ---food did not taste as good as a Weber charcoal grill. good luck.
