Chlorhexidine is a great cleaner vets us. You can also add a piece of copper to the water dishes to avoid the slimy film.

The sprayer you use, does it not contain lead? We got one but decided not to use it cause it contained lead and dehp that is said to cause birth defects

So I looked up this container and it does at least contain the deep, don't know how much it actually causes birth defects.

@@alyssablair7613 all petroleum plastics are made of dozens to hundreds of toxic chemicals. Unless it was made of hemp, all plastic is toxic. The difference is not every type of plastics bleeds or leaches those chemicals out into the liquid they're holding. Sprayers are completely safe, even for much more sensitive plants and animals than geckos.

That Ellimatnator sprayer from walmart, the 2 gallon kind I showed, thats the main one we use for humid hide spraying and some baby water dish fill ups. thats a good concern but I havent seen anything about lead, but never looked, however never had any issues as far as I can tell, but will keep an eye out for any data

@@alyssablair7613 ill keep an eye out, we probally hatched 350 or so babies last year, some with defects due to inbred lines like tangerine, others with defects due to parent x offspring breeding, and some just natural occurances, but the numbers were very low, so I cannot say if the sprayer would have caused that like you mentioned, that would have to be tested, but maybe its also possible our contry's tap water has stuff to possibiliy dilute or disolve the lead? Anywho Ill be keeping an eye out, but for now I cannot say that the issues were caused by the bottle given the other factors involved.

So a thing that we use commonly in the micro lab is 10% bleach. It's recommended that a 10% solution is the best way to clean for microbes. You might want to dilute that especially if you don't want to harm the lizards

Yeh thank you, I am super careful to rinse everything very thoroughly with water, so none of the geckos' stuff ever has chemicals raw lying in it. But also at this time, im not really using chemicals in the geckos' tubs themselves, just the bathtub which gathers feces and like sometimes the sponge, but then i rinse the sponge really well before using it again on gecko stuff. So what im saying is by the time I bring the gecko tub back to the room it's rinsed super thoroughly with water and shouldn't have any chemical residue at all. That's really good info to know as well tho for what you guys do in the lab. I'm not sure if bleach from the store is diluted already? On the gallon bottles I buy it doesnt say, so must not be? But anywho, good info Alyssa, thank you! :D :D

@@alyssablair7613 Coo coo, yeh I know if your using it directly in geckos tub you want to do like 5% or something low likw you said, and let it air dry, and probably rinse it out so no fumes get into ur geckos lungs too much, but we just clean all our tubs with water and that sponge, and only use the chemicals on the bath tub itself to try to eliminate as much bacteria/possible parasites as possible. I under stand this method isnt fail safe completely, but has worked really well for us so far keeping a large healthy collection so far :D

@@GeekyGeckoCreations so from what I can tell on micro, you use 10% and then using dawn to get the remainder of the bleach off should not cause any problems

The intro is an educational segment of what can happen durring breeding, I literally was filming them breed, it happened very quickly and no geckos were hurt, this is common behaviour, im very careful with my geckos and the male was removed right away after that. we house all geckos sepertely and only pair durring breeding season for 10 minutes per session.
