I always hear people talk about how theybrefuse to use soap because they think it will give them a yeast infection. I ask them "how do you clean it?" And they say they soak it in peroxide...but I am pretty sure that breaks down the silicon? I

@sadiaashraf1921 the peroxide breaks down the silicone. It can cause it to have imperfections where then dirt and bacteria become trapped and it gets more difficult to clean. Many women are worried about the staining on the cup (clear cups turn yellow, orange or red) and the staining happens more when the cup has all these tiny imperfections. So if they are soaking in peroxide to get the stain out but the peroxide causes imperfections that will lead to more staining.

​@@sadiaashraf1921 both. Wash with soap every time you empty the cup. And boil once after each cycle. boiling won't ruin it as long as you're not accidentally burning it (so don't let it touch the bottom of the pot)

I use a PH balanced vulva soap for mine. Its scent free and very gentle!

And don't use castile soap!! It does something to the silicone (Breaks it down if I remember correctly). I use the unscented Neutrogena face wash - cheap and easy to find!

Technically to sanitize the product just needs to be in 85° for 1 minute. I use boiling water and washing. From microbiologist that specialised in food safety in govt.

I used breast pump parts bags to sterilize my cup. It was easy, reusable and cost effective. Also, I didn't have to have it cook on the stove/ in the open.

Are you sure the bag your using to put the cup in is even safe bc I did the same thing until I realised there was a bunch of lint stuck to it, I now use a silicone period cup holder and I clean it along with my cup. I feel like the lint (especially on a black cup) can harm the vaginal walls and ya know some women carry theirs in the bag like they should & don’t exactly check & inspect the cup for anything sticking to it, that’s a real concern of mine!!

I'm not really sure if I want to try using a menstrual cup yet. I'm still a teenager, and I'm scared that it'll hurt. If anyone has any tips, I'd love to listen to them (: Edit : I bought myself a menstrual disk and even though I'm not on my period yet I wanted to practice to know how I should put it. for me personally, tampons would always leak a bit no matter what, but my cup never leaks unless it needs to be emptied. they are also more comfortable for me and they have to be changed less often so i can go about my day pretty normally. they also might be healthier for your body bc they are made of medical grade silicon whereas many tampons have additives or bleached cotton which could be aggravating for some ppl. they are also better for the environment because you create way less waste. finally, they also save money over time bc they are reusable for 10 years or something like that

😳 have you ever tried a cup or disc?? i imagine if you're asking this then you haven't. LOL but... maybe you have. 💁🏽‍♀ the list of reasons are seemingly endless-ever since i started using a disc i don't understand why anyone still uses tampons. reasons number 1-10 for me: comfort. beyond that, changing frequency. _and_ i can use a disc on any day, even the lightest day of my period; can't use a tampon on my light days. still, i imagine preference is the main reason ppl still use tampons after trying discs. + i know everyone is different so i blv them....i just don't _get_ it. LOL ETA: missed the "i'm a man" part. 🤦🏾‍♀ + assuming you don't mean trans man, wasted time x spoons is what i get for skimming. 😅 LMAO maybe someone else will find this info useful.

1. You can only wear tampons for 8 hours, which doesn’t make them ideal for sleeping. But you can wear a cup or disc for up to 12 hours 2. If you’re buying pads and tampons each month, that’s roughly $30 a month…. Compared to buying a $40 disc and reusing it for 10+ years 3. It’s estimated that each woman produces 300 tons of menstrual products in their lifetime…. Reusable products are much more sustainable. For our wallets, and our planet.

I’ve noticed after cleaning my flex cup and putting it in the bag that it came with to dry it leaves fuzzies all over my cup. It’s fine a home when I can rinse but on the go it’s not ideal. Do you have any suggestions?

I'm sure you could probably find a bag with a lining, or made with different materials that wouldn't leave fuzz, I've never used a cup so not 100% sure but it's what I'd do in a pinch?

How do I know the soap is safe to use on my menstrual cup if there aren't any menstrual cup brands that sell their own soap? In ly instructions it says to only use water I'm confused

There are loads of available cup soaps: period.shop/collections/cup-washes-and-lubricants But just look for unscented soaps with a short list of ingredients. The more basic the better.

Well by gentle it means that it won’t irritate your area. If you use something that can irritate that’s “not gentle” it’s gonna make things worse.

I don’t really know what qualifies as gentle handwash but my body wash says gentle and is fragrance free, paraben free and soap free.

I use a soap that literally says "gentle soap" and it works great. Lather's quickly, rinses clean without residue. I think "antibacterial" soaps are maybe a bit more harsh, but tell you on the back of the bottle they don't clean any better than any other soap.

I use baby bottle liquid cleanser, my logic was that it's safe for the silicone teats, it's safe for babies, it should be safe for my vagina 🤣😅 And it is also really cheap! I found it when I just got my cup and was browing through a store to check each soap to see what I could use because I definitely can't afford the pricy menstrual cup cleanser, espcially when it needs to be delivered from another country. I assume sex toy cleaners should be safe for similar reasons? Just make sure to rinse it thoroughly I guess
