Water can be used if you have a severely muddy or dirty chain, but motorcycle chains when they are installed are always usually lubed with grease, and oil ,that being said water can allow the chain to rust and remove lubrication from them resulting in a shorter lifespan of the chain. Best bet, chain lube or greaser without water. But if necessary use water but dry it quickly with a towel.

i’m no expert but i think your supposed to isolate the spray and lube to the chain only, not other mechanisms or tire especially
